What do you mean?

I test using Max Speed, I may of got two diffrent speeds in the two tests which include the M5, but in the above comparison I reached 201.84 Mph.

I think you should test top speed as in the cars full top speed, not just limited to speed test. It doesnt give some cars a chance to get up to their top speed.

There is one loophole I guess. Rev limter. If you hit the rev limter, it the car final top speed. Not how much horsepower you got under the hood:dunce:

65% Of the cars I test at Max Speed cannot go much faster, as in they might squeeze 10 Mph out max.
10% Hit the redline.
25% Can go faster.

These are rough estimates only :)

This list will show what I think are the 10 biggest rip offs in Gran Turismo 4.
10 Biggest Rip Offs.

1st - Nissan Skyline Sport Coupe (BLRA-3)
Price - 320,000
You Could Buy - A TVR Griffith 500 and fully modify it.

Where do I start with this? Not even 100 Bhp, can't reach 100 Mph either. This car gets beaten by Ginetta G4's, even Volkwagen Karmann Ghias can beat it, the Skyline Sport Coupe is the biggest rip off in Gran Turismo 4.

2nd - Aston Martin V8 Vantage
Price - 224,000
You Could Buy - A BMW M5 with over 100,000 change.

This big Aston Martin bought in the used 90's lot is the second biggest rip off in Gran Turismo 4, it gets beaten by Ford Mustangs and Lotus Elises, despite having 500 Bhp it's extremelly heavy, and it's cornering is crap, I can't think of a good word to describe this car.

3rd - Audi Auto Union V16 Streamline
Price - 500,000
You Could Buy - A Ford Falcon XR8 with change.

First, you can win it, second, you can only drive it on Nurburgring, Free Run mode, so you can't race it either, there is'nt really much point in this car, it has very bad cornering aswell.

4th - Pagani Zonda C12S 7.3
Price - 631,680
You Could Buy - A Ford GT with nearly 500,000 change.

Although fast, the Ford GT is no slower, and it costs under 150,000.
Go for the GT.

5th - Panoz Esprante GT-1
Price - 4,500,000
You Could Buy - A Mazda 787b with 1,000,000 change, a Toyota GT-ONE.

The Panoz is a great car, it looks brilliant aswell, but for 4,500,000, you can buy cars in the LMP class, with some you might even get some change.

6th - Nissan R390 GT1 Road Car
Price - 1,000,000
You Could Buy - A Ford GT and fully modify it.

The R390 Road Car is brilliant, but for 1,000,000, it's not worth it, go for a cheaper option and fully modify it.

7th - Chevrollet SSR
Price - 44,560
You Could Buy - Ford Lightning, Dodge RAM Hemi.

You can get much better pick up trucks for less money, I do not reccomend the SSR to anyone in need of a fast pick up truck, it may look fast, but it's really the complete oppasite.

8th - BMW Z4
Price - 75,610
You Could Buy - A Buick Special with change.

I love this car, but I don't see the point in the 75,000 price tag, it dose'nt even have 250 Bhp, it has less, it gets beaten by some Nissan Silvas which cost way under 20,000.

9th - Citoreon C5 Exclusive
Price - 42,830
You Could Buy - A BMW 330i

Go for a BMW 330i which is better than the Citoreon is every way, I could'nt find anything good about this car, although it still costs quite alot.

10th - Alfa Romeo Spider 3.0i V6 24V
Price - 51,190
You Could Buy - A HPA Motorsports Stage II R32 with change.

I don't see the point of this car, for the Italian Cup use a Fiat Coupe, for the Roadster Cup use a Lotus Elise, and it costs over 50,000.

Stay away from it.

Enjoy.

1st - Nissan Skyline Sport Coupe (BARA-3)
Price - 320,000
You Could Buy - A TVR Griffith 500 and fully modify it.

Where do I start with this? Not even 100 Bhp, can't reach 100 Mph either. This car gets beaten by Ginetta G4's, even Volkwagen Karman Ghias can beat it, the Skyline Sport Coupe is the biggest rip off in Gran Turismo 4.
How can the Skyline BLRA-3 Coupe be the biggest rip-off in GT4? It's a classic car, and is to be treated as a classic car, to be driven in classic races and I could not lose to a Ginetta in it if I tried, never mind a Volkswagen Karmann-Ghia.
How can 320,000 for a historic car be a bigger 'ripoff' than 4,500,000cr for a completely useless American 'race car' that cannot compete with anything in its class? That's fourteen times more expensive, for a car that isn't anywhere near the best choice for any race in the game.

2nd - Aston Martin V8 Vantage
Price - 224,000
You Could Buy - A BMW M5 with over 100,000 change.

How about, 'legendary'?
Give me this piece of loud and proud British muscle over some M-Bimmer any day...

It's not exactly a ripoff if you do the intelligent thing and win the Grand Valley 300km race to win it, in fact then you are paid a few hundred thousand credits to have it. You even mentioned that yourself, so what on earth is it doing in the list anyway? It's there purely as a (nearly) 70-year-old piece of history, to show what speed once looked like. Oh, and you can drive it on the Test Course as well, which is what it was designed for.

4th - Pagani Zonda C12S 7.3
Price - 631,680
You Could Buy - A Ford GT with nearly 500,000 change.

Although fast, the Ford GT is no slower, and it costs under 150,000.
Go for the GT.
The Ford GT is, you'll find, slower (be it top speed or times around a track) and anyway, I would never buy a Ford instead of this howling Italian thoroughbred. You'd have to be mad. And if you want a cheaper one, save a few hundred grand on the lighter C12.

6th - Nissan R390 GT1 Road Car
Price - 1,000,000
You Could Buy - A Ford GT and fully modify it.

The R390 Road Car is brilliant, but for 1,000,000, it's not worth it, go for a cheaper option and fully modify it.
I'd like to see you catch an R390 roadcar in a Ford GT roadcar, really I would, be it top speed or times around a track..

So, you're suggesting the peakiest torque-bitch in the game instead of an Italian? Hmm. For those who don't want to completely annihiliate the competition in the Italian Cup, this is the car to use...

As you may have noticed, I'm finding it quite hard to agree with some of these...

DE

Thats what you think though, anyway, a Ford GT fully modifed could own a stock R390 for less the money.

Oh and I'll do a Skyline Sport VS Ginetta G4 around El Captain and Fuji 80's to see which is faster.

Ginetta G4

El Captain - 2'10.220
Fuji Speedway 80's - 1'46.134

Nissan Skyline Sports Coupe

El Captain - 2'28.277
Fuji Speedway 80's - 1'57.747

So after testing on these two tracks, I think it's safe to say the Ginetta would beat the Skyline on every other track on Gran Turismo 4 aswell.

Thats what you think though, anyway, a Ford GT fully modifed could own a stock R390 for less the money.
Yes, it is what I think, and what you wrote is also only an opinion
Fully modified versus stock, yes, but both fully tuned the GT stands no chance.

I assumed you meant human driver against AI drivers when talking about the Skyline BRLA-3 Coupe, not human drivers both. But did you do that, or did you use B-Spec for that little test?
(And now you can try Karmann-Ghia vs. BRLA-3 Coupe, if you like).

Pink_the_Floyd
Well, DE, would mind doing such efforts like George's doing here then?
If I wasn't so busy with 'such efforts' as the Tuning Competition and the 300mph Club, besides my real life, then I probably would start doing some similar informative comarisons. I'm not knocking the work George has put in, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with it.

EDIT in reply to #250 : Good :P

DE

I used A Spec, the Ginetta is much faster than the Skyline Coupe, as for the Karmann Ghia, we will have to see, I'll test it later today.

I disagree with some of the bargains and ripoffs...

The HPA is a 4WD mini-wheelbase car, with a powerband as big as, say, a fly caught in that big-ass turbo. While a good cheap option for the start, the only thing that makes it so good is the power - which is available for 0.6 seconds on a 1st-to-6th-gear drive...

And historics should be treated gently. They're old, so they're powerless, and shift slowly. The Skyline wasn't a pure sports-car - the Ginetta was. It's like comparing a 200HP "sporty-version-of-a-saloon/family car" to some lightweight extreme-sport-no-luxury speeder of the same power...
Example: I re-did Sunday Cup today, testing out old cars. The Alfa Sprint Speciale, the Toyota 2000GT, Chevy Corvette '5x, and some others. Compared to the cars there, some had the same power, some had more. But it was still close, because the engine takes so long to accelerate, and while shifting you could fall asleep. It's so extremely different than the Merc 190 EvoII Touring Car I used minutes before for the final licence test... Shifting there is almost unnoticed, while, say, the Alfa only won by out-cornering the AI (therefore it lost on SSR5 and Motegi West)

i agree with Ginigba about the historic-car-treatment.......

nice to see the comparo finished!

and i agree with D.E. about most of his comments about your rip-off-list!! 👍

viper

My list was'nt about how classic the cars are, the point is they're still very slow, and performence wise, are not worth the money.

But hear. Each and every car should be tested and rated according to the year it was produced. Comparably, the Skyline ain't that bad, considering it's a relative "economy" car with some sporty touches from a couple of decades ago...

Mazda Roadster showdown.

Which is the Best Hiroshima Roadster/Miata/MX5?

I'll leave it to you to find the way to grade these cars... but I guess Tsukuba would be a great choice for one of the test tracks considering the 4 hour Enduro.

Also how does a Used and 10k version compare. (B-Spec and your own driving feelings)

----------------

Best value car; I think you got stung for the TVR Griffith, mine only cost 20,555 or so, 50% cheaper! (Enough to hire a Mechnic to get the car back on the road after a part fails on it.)

The best value car thing is a nice idea though,
Almost need a best value top 3 for under 5,000 then again for 10,000 again for 20,000 - 50,000 - 100,000.

For some reason I keep thinking a Second Hand Silvia K is good value for money.

Have fun

The best Miata will be simple. The newest one.. However, since they all hadle very similar (refreshed and all), it's a question of power and design - power, the newest has the most, and design is a question of personal preference.

And best value, most cars can be great. Yeah, even the Volvo 240 GLT Estate. Stiffer springs, less weight, more power, and voila, the family racer with the looks of a cigarette box...

I think Mazda MX-5's might be hard, there are many at used car lots and I only own 2 diffrent ones, the top 3 cars for a budjet is a good idea.

The best three will be posted for the follwing budjets :

6,000 (That allows many more cars than if it was to be 5,000)

10,000

25,000

50,000

100,000

250,000

I will not modify any cars.

I have to do a 👎 on the Nissan R390. I fully modified and tuned it, and with some racing tires, you can hold your own with cars that are 4 times as much. If you class it against a Ford GT, the GT will be a better value, but the R390 is a race car for the street. It's competition isn't the Ford GT. When you tune it correctly and modify it some, it's competition are the high-class race cars.

Just my 2¢.

For the 6,000Cr. Budget, I see a place for the '85 RX-7 coming... T'was my first car, and for such a price, it offers around 180-190HP with oil, and is overall a sporty and quick car...

I've recently began all over with GT4 and I've bought an Nissan Skyline R32 GTS-t Type M in the used cars section for 8,347 Cr. and it's a really great car for just that money, you can easily beat the sunday cup, and with a little tuning you can compete with the FR cars. I really find this a great car. Hope this helps a bit :)

Bargains For Under 6,000

Best Buy!

Mazda RX-7 GT Limited
Price - 5,914

This RX-7 is by quite alot the best bargins for under 6,000, it boasts nearly 190 Bhp, which can't be beaten by any other car under 6,000. It rivals Nissan Silvas of the same era. Can be found in the used car 80's lot.

Nissan Silva Q's
Price - 5,445

With around 140 Bhp it is'nt as powerful as the RX-7, but it isn't slow, it still rivals the same cars as the RX-7 Limited. Can be found in the used car 80's lot.

Honda Civic SIR-II
Price - 5,669

The Civic SIR-II, although not the most powerful Civic, is still good value for money, and can compete fairly with other lower powered FF cars, although newer than the RX-7, it's still cheaper. Can be found in the early 90's used car lot.

Bargains For Under 11,000

Best Buy!

Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX STI Ver.II
Price - 9,617

For a car that can compete with 50,000 Skylines, 9,000 is a very good deal, very fast accelration and top speeds (150+ Mph). The handling is also quite good, although having a bit of understeer.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution III GSR
Price - 10,389

Although being the most expensive of the three, it's a good car, and can compete fairly with Nissan Skylines made in the same era, boasting well over 200 Bhp, the Evolution III is a very good buy.

Nissan Skyline GTS-T Type M
Price - 8,347

The cheapest, oldest, and least powerful of the three, but still has over 200 Bhp, and could compete against slightly newer Mitsubishi Evolutions and Nissan Skylines, a good buy, but not as good as the Evolution III or Subaru Impreza.

Bargains For Under 25,000

Best Buy!

Chevrollet Camaro SS
Price - 22,150

Not only is the Camaro SS the cheapest car out of the three, it's also the most powerful, it rivials cars such as the Pontiac GTO which costs around 30,000, and the Holden Monaro which costs around 45,000.

Mazda RX-7 Type RS
Price - 24,556

The RX-7 RS has less power than the Camaro SS, it's also more expensive by over 2,000, and, you can only buy it used, while the Camaro SS is bought new. But that dose'nt stop it being good value compared to it's rivals, a average Nissan Skyline of the same era, used, costs over 30,000, a Nissan 350Z costs around 27,000.

Honda S2000 (2001 Model)
Price - 22,294

Cheaper than the Mazda, but not as much power (246 Bhp compared to the Mazdas 276 Bhp), but the handling is by quite alot the best in the group, rivalling the lower powered Subaru Legacys and Mazda RX-7's, the Honda S2000 costs less than both those models.

Thanks for reading, enjoy.

I found your top 10 lists to be extremely bias to American cars. 5 out of the 10 best bargains were American, and maybe only 2 of the rip offs were. On the rip-off list, basically everything was "this sucks, get the ford GT instead". It just seems as if this wasn't approached with an open mind.
