Great work George.

I really enjoy reading your thoughts and opinions on these cars. While I may not agree with some of your picks, I also understand that these are largely subjective opinions and thus as seen by some of the response, many wont necessarily agree with them.

However, you have offered some excellent insight and at the very least brought some attention to many cars that don't get a lot of attention. 👍

I only went up to 25,000 because anything for 50,000 is'nt really a bargin, so 100,000 was stupid, and 250,000? What was I thinking?

(Now expecting a long rant from Dark Elite since I did not include the legenday Mazda 111S in the lists ;)).

Bargains For Under 6,000

Mazda RX-7 Type RS
Price - 24,556

The RX-7 RS has less power than the Camaro SS, and has'nt got as good handling, it's also more expensive by over 2,000, and, you can only buy it used, while the Camaro SS is bought new. But that dose'nt stop it being good value compared to it's rivals, a average Nissan Skyline of the same era, used, costs over 30,000, a Nissan 350Z costs around 27,000.

Thanks for reading, enjoy.[/CENTER]

I don't know what you've been drinking, but I'd like to know how on earth you could make RX-7 handle worse than overweight, asthmatic camaro.. :dopey:

Sorry to disappoint, but that's not too high on my favourites list either.

I agree with Leo's disagreement (make sense? :P) about the RX-7, though, you have two reasons against it so you should probably drop the blatantly untrue comment about it's handling

And please spell bargain correctly in the title!

I've noticed these bargain lists are'nt very popular, I won't do anymore (not that I was going to).

I had this idea, other than always comparing cars together, I could do write ups on single cars, like they do on Top Gear :).

Any thoughts about that?

Seriously George how many times does the correct spelling have to be pointed out to you?

As far as moving the thread on I would like to see more detail in each of the report, so a move to looking at a single car may well be a good move.

I would suggest running the car at a range of (set) locations to give a view of the car in different conditions, for example you could use El Capitan as a 'road section' and Tsukuba or Grand Valley as a 'test track'. This would then help to provide a Top Gear approach to the tests, I would also suggest keeping the same tracks, as this would help to compare different cars on a like for like basis.

Regards

Scaff

Sorry Scaff, there are just some words I get used to spelling the wrong way .

I will test the cars on the same tracks, I think Trail Mountain, Tsubuka, Grand Valley, and myabe one or two more are a good choice.

Chicane - The chicane can safely be taken at speeds of 100 Mph.

Please note this is how I took the corners, in the Mercedes E55 AMG.

Handling.

Understeer.

Understeer on the E55 occours mostly in hard square corners, when accelrating out of them, understeer also occours quite often on longer corners, the Mercedes has well over 400 Bhp and over 500 Ft.Lbs of torque in the engine which is placed infront of the driver, so I was'nt that surprised when I ended up off the track a few times while practising.

Braking From High Speeds.

For this test I used the Test Course, I driven the Mercedes to 180 Mph, then braked hard and started turning left and right.
I found there was absolutely no skidding or sliding when I turned, I did this 3 times to make sure, there was still no sliding, overall, the handling when braking hard is very good.

Brakes.

0-60-0 Mph - 6.680 Seconds.
0-100-0 Mph - 14.140 Seconds.
0-160-0 Mph - 36.760 Seconds.

On the track, the brakes don't feel amazing, but at the Test Course tests, they seemed to feel slightly better.

The brakes are average, they could be much better, but they could also be much worse.

How It Feels To Drive.

At speed the Mercedes feels like a supercar, reaching speeds well over 180 Mph but not loosing control.

On tracks such as Nurburgring, it feels very heavy around most tight corners, this is becuase it weighs over 1900kg, the accelration is about average for a 500 Bhp super salloon.

Theres nothing paticulary 'fun' about the E55, but still, I like the car lots, I like the kind of 'sporty' look at the front, I like the engine sound, the Mercedes E55 is a very likable car in many ways, but then, many people could dislike it for it's weight, and the fact it's heavy around corners.

Overall, the Mercedes E55 is by far my favourite Mercedes on Gran Turismo 4, I reccomend it to compete in events such as Schwartzwald Liga B and Pan Euro Championship.

Styling.

Looking at the E55 AMG for a second, you'd think it looks like any other Mercedes, long wheelbase, with the same 5 spoke Mercedes wheels, but if you look at it for longer in more detail, you start to notice things such as the slightly flared wheelarches, and the lip above the rear exhausts.

Those are the small things, the small things that make it unique, the things that make me love it.

Like nearly all modern Mercedes, it has the double lights at each side, it also has smaller lights on a front lip.

Thanks for reading.

A neat review, the 'corner speeds' section is something I haven't seen in a car review before but it might well be useful, as many people seem to notice what speed they take certain corners at much more than, for example, T-times. Perhaps, though, a little more in the way of 'feel' and emotion rather than just statistics? I'd like to read about how the car makes you feel, whether it's fun to drive, feels faster or slower than it is, and so on as well as whether it's easy to drive.
Just some pointers for the next tracks you do, this is a good effort. :)

DE

I did'nt think of that, although I did think of T Times, I forgot to add them and did'nt save the replay though .

I'll add some more stuff later.

Added a bit more (near the bottom of review), any comments?

Its getting better, in terms of the write-up itself I would suggest reading a few of the better car mags and look to develop a style of your own, as at present its a bit cold and factual.

For me some of the best automotive writing is in Evo, so if you can pick up a copy that should give you a good idea.

Here is a sample of writing (not from Evo - its before Evo even started) from one of the greatest motoring writers ever (now sadly no longer with us).

Russell Bulgin on the Lotus Carlton
“And – just before we get into the white-knuckle narrative of this lust-for-glory mission – might I be allowed one further digression? Who the hell is going to buy this car? What kind of person spends £48,000 on a Wongacarlt which could go subsonic on the M4? What kind of person wants this car, the mere ownership of which is an admission that they think driving bloody quickly is more fun than sex?

“Gruntcarlt is aimed at the type of bloke who thought that the original Ford Sierra RS Cosworth was a trifle understated and a teensy bit on the slow side. Your first glance captures all the codes: the thing is an exaggerated Batmobile of thick hips, heavy-lidded wings and gaping scoops. In autumn half-light, the colour slips from metallic British Racing Green to a cold, sombre black, upping its visual menace to levels which induce instant left-lane paranoia among other vehicles on the road.

“If Vauxhall’s sleek Calibra suggests that GM’s design boss Wayne Cherry spends his free time in quiet contemplation of the surface tension inherent through the solid-hewn contours of a Braun electric razor, then Thrustcarlt hints that Wayne and his guys also enjoy playing Motorhead albums very loud while leafing through photo-albums full of Stealth Fighter pictures.”

Or you could look at some of my (far inferior) attempts in the now dormant BESTuners thread.

Scaff's TVR Speed 12 write-up

In terms of presentation, first off use of a spell-check is a must if you are putting a write-up together, something like Word makes it very easy, but even now the google tool bar can be used as a basic spell checker.

Also try and avoid using the centre-justify for the entire piece, it just makes it difficult to read.

It is however getting much. much better; so keep going 👍

Thanks for the help, Scaff, I'll buy a few magazines when I have the time.

I like the Speed 12 Report aswell 👍.

Nice, that report on the merc is definetly your best.

Scaff - I loved that Ginetta article, reminds me of the articles I read in the Classic Car and Octane magazines. Very nice :D

Sorry if it's been awhile, I've added a bit about styling and a few pictures, hope you like them :).

Thanks for that guys, means a lot and I do miss having the time to put together write-ups like that.

Maybe when the TT tuning guide is finished I will have to start again.

George, please take note and use a spell checker, I've pointed out to you before how to use apostrophes properly, between the "N" and "T" in words like don't and hasn't, not as you insist on typing was'nt and ca'nt.
As a native English speaker yourself it has to be pretty embarassing having spelling mistakes pointed out over and over by non-native speakers, such as Austrians, Israelis, Japanese and Dutch, all of whose posts on the previous pages can put some of your posts to shame. :(

Sorry Scaff, there are just some words I get used to spelling the wrong way .

This isn't a good excuse, there's a wealth of resources out there to assist you, dictionaries, spell checkers, or simply paying attention in English class!

I'm sorry if this sounds a little harsh, :guilty:, but it's been pointed out to you tonnes of times before and we'd like to see a little improvement, honestly, it'll help you in your future presentations, not just here, but in real life too if you can come across as slightly more literate. My suggestion is this, next time you create a post, before you hit "Submit Reply" copy & paste your text into "Word" and hit F7 to check spelling & grammar. 👍

I hope this helps and you won't take offense. :guilty: PM me if necessary.
Your posts here are otherwise good and informative, so a little extra work to get them more accurate spelling-wise would make them excellent. :)

With the amount of Top Gear I read, maybe you'd like my reviews ;)

But back on-topic, George, the 'feel of the car' section is, as Scaff says, a little devoid of feeling! I can't really tell you how to evoke emotion from text, but keep at it and you will develop a style for it.

DE

I'm going to say this report is finished, when I make my second, I'll defiantly spend more time over sections such as 'Feel Of The Car' since I bought a Top Gear magazine the day after Scaff recommended it.

Somone give me a car to test, only road cars though please (no tuner cars, this includes Buick Special).

:).

Ooooooooh, that'll be a hard one (I think an easy car would be along the lines of a Golf GTI), I'll see what I can do :).
