discussion without having to resort to gross exaggerations and or disguising personal subjective opinions as unquestionable object facts,
How can i retort to that statement.....I know, just go to Wikipedia and look up words that are derogortory!!!lol Listen I dont want to start trouble with you or anyone about who's wrong or right about GT(as you say agree to disagree) but people should be allowed to voice their opinions on anything GT without condemnation...it is a forum after all.Besides if we were out in a club/bar/social gathering and someone voiced an opinion that i didnt agree with, I'd tell them that i disagree (stating why) and move on.If they were a total idiot and didnt see things my way, I wouldnt converse with them anymore (so as not to cause a scene).Lifes to short.Lets just talk GT, after all we share a common passion so we should be mates:tup:

Just to add to the car sounds of the demo... I agree the sounds are very good at being split through the speakers, but the overal realistic notes of the cars are still not the best. PGR3/4 and Forza 2 has the sounds a fair bit closer to how they actually sound than the demo, despite lacking the output quality of the demo.

I just hope they done this so they demo is a smaller download size. We'll have to see I guess.

We've been hopeful for an improvement since GT3 and we're still looking forward to the perfect sounding GT. I know there are much time for improvement before GT5 and the Demo does sound better than GT4 so we might be on the way.

I thought GT5 might be the first game to actually have rounded lines on the road.

What gen or year do you think it will take to not make the lines on the road in turns a series of straight lines?

If you drive fast enough you can't see it. No but seriously if it's gonna work with 60fps in full HD some things doesn't get prioritized away.

Absolutely. I don't think I've seen anyone saying otherwise, but you must also agree that stating an opinion and knowingly state false information to try and support that opinion is most definitely different, so much so that one also happens to be a violation of this site's Acceptable Use Policy, which every person who signs up here must agree to, and happens to be the very first rule in the AUP:
  • You will not post any material that is knowingly false, misleading, or inaccurate.
I think you'll find that this type of behavior, and not someone's personal opinion, is precisely what I have been critical of, and in no way am against anyone posting personal opinions, and have also even stated I welcome all opinions, even those that I do not share.

The problem is that in the cases that I have been critical of, they have in fact broken the first rule of the AUP and have posted knowingly false, misleading and inaccurate information... Which I certainly hope you would agree is not a good thing, and no possible good can come from having a forum where members behave in such a way.

If you don't believe me I suggest you check out websites like the www.ps3forums.com and www.teamxbox.com to see what happens when members are allowed to post knowingly false, misleading, or inaccurate information... Just be warned, like many public forums, it gets very ugly in there. So much so I stopped even bothering going to those sites, even though occasionally some people do post honest, valuable and interesting information.

The beauty about GTP is for the most part, despite being primarily a gaming forum, and despite have a majority of younger members, you’ll find with the rare exceptions, members are thoughtful, and considerate, they go out of their way to help inform and encourage healthy dialogues, and mostly avoid posting a lot of the hyperbole you find in other similar forums.

we share a common passion so we should be mates:tup:
Couldn't agree more, and have said just as much, but if my mate was constantly lying to me... we wouldn't be mates any longer. :indiff:

I know, it hurts to break up with GT4 when it's over a year left until GT5. What will i do this time? :scared:
Call me old school, but I still play GT3 from time to time. :D

old school. there you have it.

on topic... on the demo, main menu, has anyone noticed the text scrolling on the bottom? it says 'F1', followed by japanese lettering, and has '2007' amongst the text.
is that some sort of 'latest news' thing? is it always the same or it changes?

No wonder... if you think B&W will reveal the full fidelity of YouTube, you're seriously mistaken.
It appears you completely overlooked the ";)" at the end of that line you quoted from me... and thus clearly overlooked the fact that it was sarcastic, and pointing out that there is no such thing as high-fidelity or acoustic accuracy in a YouTube video. As the saying goes in the world of audiphile, videophile... politics, etc:

"Garbage in, is still garbage out." :)

Good question! There is currently no new news posted on the GT5:P site.

I think a lot of us GTP F1 fans have been wondering if and when PD might include real F1 cars, and I believe despite the apparent end of Sony's licensing agreement with the F1, that was only for "F1 season licensing", and that in an interview with Kaz I believe he suggested that there is a possibility they might be able to include specific F1 cars for different eras. I'll try and find where that article was posted.

Considering that the Suzuka model in the demo is the exact same one from GT4, I don't think it's too much of a problem. I get the feeling this track was one of the ones meant for GTHD, back when they were planning on expanding it. The Eiger Norwand in the GTHD demo features rounded textures on the sides, which is an improvement, although the lines in the middle of the road are still aligned to the polygons.

Also consider that what you're describing is not as easy to impliment as it sounds. There are ways, it's just a question of whether they plan to do it or not.

I do find it funny to play a game like PGR4 and see all this effort on trackside detail and the lines in the road are like atari 2600...

Just playing gtr2 this morning and noticed that they are terrible also.
I would say GT5P at least has the best of the bunch but still....hehe....it is funny with all the HDR this and AA that.

That is a good point and one that is really something to think about for PD.
I love the car models but when you drive fast they blow by......

What does not is dark lighting, V-snyc problems, Scaling issues that make a car 2 seconds in front of you look like a blob of flicker no matter how many polygons it has......etc...

Those things I notice when driving and I hope those things take priority over the next year rather than making the cars look stunning in the garage.

as a photomode addict, i'd love to see the track's lines rounded, as it would save me a lot of time correcting them in photoshop. however, i don't seriously expect that to happen on prologue nor the final game.
so far all tracks seen have straight polygonal lines, just like gt4. they added 3d gass that moves as cars go by, texturized the tarmac (beautifully, imho), kerbs, as well as gravel and many trackside objects (wall sponsors look amazing, hdr works there as well), the spectators, although not great, also look 10x better... they might improve some more on a few things to make tracks more realistic (right now they look a bit outdated compared to the cars), but rounding up the lines isn't certainly a priority considering the few in-race situations where you actually notice that.

it would, however, be awesome if it had rounded lines during photomode rendering. 👍

I accept your apology.

And we're all fanboys in the end, otherwise we wouldn't be posting messages. We all love the Gt series just as much.

Sadly, some people resort to personal insults and/or assumptions about the person they reply to, instead of offering their counter opinion as to why you might be wrong. They'll just call you an idiot, or say you are overreacting and missleading people. or just say that evrything you say is false even though they have no counterpoint or evidence to support this claim.
But this is the case evrywhere i suppose, people need to get used to hearing critique. Which in this case isn't even related to them but somehow they feel obligued to come out with shield and sword to defend it in childish ways.
This is just a game we're talking about, i can't imagine just how bad some of these people would get if this were a religious topic instead.
Then i keep getting told i shouldn't question opinions because i should respect them even if they're wrong.
I don't in religious topics, and i'm not about to start here.
If i think something might be wrong with an opinion i'm not afraid to point it out. I'm not out to get the person, just the argument i disagree with.

I said it before, this isn't some dinner table where it's bad manners to bring up topics that might offend someone, this is actually an area that encourages discussion.

Details details details...you are paying attention to unnecessary details. Sift through the clutter and find clarity mate. You should see that it is quite plain. The bottom line is determined by ear, plain and simple.

What I say is based upon dozens of videos I watch on YouTube of cars. Even if a particular video has a modified car, why is it that there is never a situation where a car can sound like that in Gt4? or if a video has a bias towards any of the points you mentioned for that matter. The demo is no different, there isn't even any violent rush of noise as a full grid of cars passes by, just like Gt4. And I definetly shouldn't need some elaborate audio system to hear an improvement like that. It should be evident on a very mediocre TV for it to be a legitimate next-gen improvement, since you'd hear the proper essence of the sound on a televised racing event on the same mediocre TV.

The teasers are all you need, it should seem plain to you. You actually hear the violent scream as the cars drive by. Thanks to PD, teasers are very much a tease.

I have to agree with you, the difference is so obvious that you don't actually need an advanced sound system just to realize how different real cars sound from any GT game.

And to the people pointing out "well, they might be modified! and youtube is comprssed!"

You are missing the point, ENTIRELY. (and it's come to a point i'm not surprised.)
The difference is so obvious that even a crappy compressed video can show you just how different the sound is, and if that's not enough just fire up any episode of best motoring and compare the sounds to any car you can compare it to in GT5/4.
And if that doesn't do it just go outside and listen to cars go by, the difference is overwhelming.
It really doesn't take much time to realize just how different they are.
It is extremley evident that PD is still using very similar or the same methods for GT5 sound as they've used in the past.
a 7.1 system is not going to somehow remedy a problem that comes form the source.

We're probably gonna get insulted somehow for this point of view, and they probably won't even bother actually looking to what we're pointing towards to see if we're right or not.

To those people, before you do reply. can you please run those simple tests?
As i assure you, audio fidelity will have little to no impact in your ability to percive just how different GT4-5 sounds from real cars or other sims. (i really think is that obvious.)

I would think there's not even room for discussion as the difference seems so obvious to me and others here, but of course in wrong about that.

And yes, i think by now we all know GT5:P is a work in progress and that this might change by the time GT5 final comes out.

I really wish this were true and i'll be pleseantly surprised if it turns out they make them better. I'm personally not that optimistic regarding this matter.
But for now, i don't think there's anything wrong with the people that say that they are underwhelmed with the sounds in GT5, at it's current state.

The simple answer is to wait until the demo is released on the UK/US store, which will be closer to GT5P's release in these regions.

From what I'm gathering on these boards is that it's not going to be released in the US or UK store, I could very well be wrong however. There is just way to much information to take in and I'm only getting bits and pieces of it at a time. I also don't feel up to reading hundreds of pages of information to pull out the details I'm looking for. We almost need an FAQ guide at the top of the page to address these issues.

I just don't understand why any company wouldn't want to address as many markets as it could in order to build up anticipation for this game, which will ultimately lead to sales.

One thing I'm actually pretty impressed with is during the unveiling of the cars that animation on that cloth is pretty cool, as someone who does a bit of animation I know what a pain those soft bodies must have been.

In the meantime, you may want to bookmark amar212's official GT5: Prologue thread:
Amar has done a really great job updating the first post and the thread title with the latest news/info, thus making it very easy to quickly catch up with the latest news, rumors, and specualtions on GT5:P. 👍

Cool thanks, I'll have to read through the information in that thread which seems to be more put together then a slathering of threads all throughout the sub forum.

I've been doing a little test with all cars to see how they feel. I used Sixaxis, Manual Transmission, Simulation Mode, no ASM or TCS, S2 tires.

Nissan GT-R
nissangtreb5.jpg

To begin with, it's really fast. Just a few seconds after the start i'm bumper to bumper to the car in front (Lexus IS F). It understeers a bit but giving full throttle increases the grip slightly. Entering a corner too fast can be solved by slightly pull the e-brake, although that move will cost a second or two. Overall it's easy to drive for a car with that amount of power.

Subaru Impreza WRX STi
subaruimprezaxc1.jpg

This car is an expert on hairpins and slow corners, turns quickly and keeps the balance controlled. Although when it comes to medium and fast corners it tends to understeer. Saving the understeer with the e-brake is not to think of in this car, it will spin out. It's fun to drive and play with but it isn't really a racer, after all it's made for dirt.

Lexus IS F
lexusisfkh8.jpg

This big four door luxury beast needs a guru behind the wheel. It tends to oversteer at all speeds, hairpins and slow corners needs to be tackled with care. Fits very well as a drifter, except the automatic gearbox which takes the sportyness away. It's fast and beautiful and a real challenge to drive.

Mazda Atenza Sport
mazdaatenzafc3.jpg

This car has exceptional cornering. Very good balance at all speeds. It is a little slow and requires some slip stream. But it compensates the slow straights in the corners.

Daihatsu OFC-1
daihatsuofcvh1.jpg

This little fellow that almost fits in your pocket has very good handling. Even thought it's not very fast and don't have much power it's very fun to drive.

BMW 135i Coupe
bmwpg5.jpg

This little beemer is very fast, but it has issues with the cornering. Every motion need to be very delicate to keep it on the road at high speeds. But driven with the right technique it can outrun the japanese sports cars.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X
mitsuqq7.jpg

The Evo is very tweaky but it's very good with corners at all speeds. But watch out when you break before a corner as the tweaks will try to send it into a slalom motion.

Great post kekke! You may want to seriously consider making that post its own thread, as others may find that to be a useful reference, as well as a place for others to post their own thoughts on how these cars feel/handle for them. 👍

Regardless, +REP for the great post!

Pretty funny people have been flaming me for complaining about the game being too dark and everyone of those photos is terribly dark and over exposed. But hey, must just be my tv :)

You can change picture settings on a TV you know. I did that with mine when I first got my PS3 and it's about right for all the games I've played, this included.

Did some testing of my own :)

There has been some problems with some members who don't know how they can shift gears with each car with the G25 in GT5p demo. I tested this for each car.

Legend (key to symbols)

MT = manual transmission (race options)
AT = automatic transmission (race options)
Seq = sequential shifting with stick (gear box)
Hp = H-pattern shifting with stick (gear box)
Paddles = shifting with paddles behind the wheel
Stick = stick shifting (sequential, gear box)
Race option = The option you choose when you start to race
Action in game = How you shift gears in the game (while playing, = gear box)

Unfortunately we're going to have to look like the bad guys here, this is becoming old hat.

That's right, they won't even bother looking because people like Digital-Nitrate are so hopelessly deluded, lol, that they'll ignore the posts altogether in an attempt to look better.

I heard a bmw 3 series floor it, as it tried to pass another car while I was walking, and it definitely sounded quite violent in it's own right. Try it on your car and find out people:idea:

Great info again! Thanks kikie for sharing your tests and observations. I'd +REP you again, but as I just did, it won't let me for a while longer.
