Known as "the Bream" in Finland for its sheer size and shape among the boxy Escort Cosworths and such, the GT-Four Celica was a fearsome rally car in its day. It was a big car and it took big men - both physically (Marcus Grönholm) and statistically (Juha Kankkunen) - to get the most out of it. Now we're about to find out what a small man - definitely physically - to see what its road counterpart can do.

The car looks gorgeous as it is, so the wing can gather dust in the corner of the garage. Special race alloys aren't needed as we're going to run sports tyres. In other words, we're about to develop a stock looking sleeper if the GT-Four can ever be described as one. The back seats are sent flying to the trash bin, weight is an enemy. The mediocre quality CD player will keep them company in no time and even the sound insulation joins the party. But, power is a friend. Let's throw in a bigger turbo, swap the intercooler for a race spec one with water spray and update the exhaust piping. A few rows of code on a laptop make short work of the old engine control programs and extra power emerges from nowhere. Well now, we have less weight and more power. What's next? Ah, the suspension. Four surplus race dampers are found from a crate in the corner, probably leftovers from an earlier project. But we need more, all it takes is a quick call to a former Celica rally operator and we get our hands on the rest of the parts. Now, let's take a look at what we have. A fire breathing black creature, resembling more a black dragon than a bream. Mission complete.

Some notes about driving it... it likes to get loose, but not as loose as some others. As soon as you get the rear tyres slipping a bit, stop increasing the angle. It will only lead to the front losing the grip too and you'll meet the wall. Adapt yourself to the car and it'll serve you well.
 
I might have to wait a little while to try this one as there isn't one currently available to me and I've got over 2million Cr saved ready to start judging Tuner Challenge V2. I do have a GT-four but then I realised after buying the stage 3 turbo and FC suspension instead of the Original versions that it already has rigidity increase and it was just a waste of possibly needed Credit, so I will be waiting, no guarantee when I can do this one sorry.

Meet Scooby-Doo, MFT's latest addition to their expanding lineup. Scooby Doo is based on '95 Impreza WRX-STi, and despite the stock looks, this boxer-powered sedan bites harder than barks. In stock form, Subaru's well known 2-liter boxer engine produced 260 bhp, plenty for a sportscar of that era. But it was not enough for MFT. The engine block was reinforced, balanced and stroked, the engine management unit was replaced with more intelligent one. In addition, the turbo and the intercooler were replaced with modern designs. Power delivery to the road was ensured with a triple plate clutch pack, a lightened flywheel for quicker response and a quick-shifting sequential gearbox that was mated to carbonfiber driveshafts. The rest is done with softer rubber on the stock rims. The all-out performance hunt continued with the chassis, suspension and drivetrain. Chassis seams were welded shut, and a complete rollcage was installed in order to improve the chassis rigidity. The standard suspension was replaced by full GT-Spec touring car parts, which were tuned only for handling instead of compromises between comfort and performance. The chassis was stripped of anything that didn't improve performance.

In the end, Scooby-Doo still looks pretty much like a stock WRX STi from the outside. But like the cartoon counterpart, it is full of surprises, and when driven with care, it will surprise more powerful and lighter trackday specials with it's tail-happy power over action. Beware though.. When it bites, it will bite deep.

These last two, the Celica and Subaru look like great competition for one-another and being on S3 tires would put them right in the top class of tuner challenge entries.
Whatever the case, the cars look interesting and so do the presentations. 👍

I did, my Lancer Evo IV TME is in under its manufacturer name. The Celica wouldn't have handled well enough to be a worthwhile competitor in there, after all the Evo is just four seconds slower with only 60% of the power and much friendlier to drive on the limits. With full power it would certainly blow the Celica sky high. :P

As far as I know, Leonidae entered his GT-R Concept under the name Mine's GT-R Concept as that's what I photoshopped it into here.
 
yes, my Mine's GT-R concept ( the tokyo motorshow concept) is there. If I could, I could possibly replace that with the Scooby-Doo, but the GT-R is more driver friendly despite having more power. And tonigth, I shall also change the R4 settings to better handling ones, and small power bump is in order too.

But why is there option to put intercoolers on N/A car? :odd: I'm still baffled.. oh well.. maybe PD had a small brain fart, mixing up parts between the older and newer S4's..
 
Evo IV:

Before the settings, the car was--well, fanstastic, actually. The engine note and the transmission gave the car's acceleration a very athletic feeling. The cornering was impressively swift for a 4WD, with high cornering speeds and lift-throttle oversteer if a driver is a hint too late with the brakes. The transmission felt a hint too tall for the power of the car, and this made it fairly difficult to properly guage how well the Evo handled. The handling/thrust ratio is too high to figure anything out.

After the settings, things became a bit... odd. To start, the transmission seems to give slightly improved acceleration, but the top speed is exactly the same, and the top speed is still too high, a rarity in Greycap's products. In the corners, however, things begin to brighten up a bit. The car feels more tightened-down; The weight transfer, which I didn't even notice as a problem in the stock tune, has been brought down to a rewarding amount. The lift-throttle oversteer still remains, but is quelled to maintain momentum at all times. There is less margin of error for too-late braking, but it still takes talent to make a fatal mistake. When the throttle is used in the latter half of the corner, the car dispenses zero speed-robbing oversteer, but negligable understeer as well. The highish AYC settings allow a bit of power-oversteer in low-speed corners, exactly where it's wanted.

But, as this was labelled as a rallyist as well as a tarmac sprinter, the car couldn't be left without some time off the tarmac. Stock, the Evo IV feels like it's made to rally (most likely due to the fact that it is made to rally); There is quite a bit of grip, and the loss of grip is progressive and predictable to a remarkable degree. Even at high speeds, there wasn't a hint of the "Suprise Understeer Attack" that is so widely despised of GT4's rallying physics. The car was fastest with very little oversteer, a precision tool which is meant to be used gently, with barely any oversteer. The tuned version, when driven as an exquisite high-speed drill, is scarcely any swifter through the twisty bits as the stock version. It feels harder to control, as well; the tail wants to step out constantly, and the harder rear suspension makes the handling a touch more unpredictable. Honestly, it's dissappointing. If it's horrible as a high-speed drill, I'll at least enjoy myself and whip it rediculously sideways through the bends, driving it as a sledgehammer instead. I plow into the lowish-speed corner, basically in sync with my ghost, completely disregard caution with the steering, and reach a full 80 degrees of drift angle, forcing myself to guess which direction I'm actually heading (Front view: wall. Rear view: other wall. Useless, really). I come out of the turn, discovering the ease with which I can recover from huge angles, and note that I can't see my ghost in front of me. I, unthinking, tap the rear view button, expecting not to find my ghost. Bingo, he's a tiny blue dot in the distance of the dust cloud. I smile broadly, and do the same thing in the next, high-speed turn, and... My ghost rockets past. What?

So, there are two oddities: The transmission is set too high, something I've never seen of Greycap before; and he's made the car behave horribly in high-speed rally turns (Either you drift and slow down dramatically, or you have to force the car not to drift, which is just irritating.), something I'd expect him to smooth over. But I've got both figured out: It's the WRC theme that he's built this car with. He limited the power to the WRC's official standards, but the low power is uncharacteristic of his tuning style. He knows that we'll all eventually get bored with just 295 hp in such a capable car, and that we will add power. And he's tuned it for that exact increase.

Consider the Gentleman's Agreement, made by all Japanese car manufacturers. It basically stated that no Japanese car maker would make a car with over 276 hp. A Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 is advertised, with a wink and a grin, to have 276 hp. Nissan, however, sneakily stuffed another 30 or so hp into the car, and the GT-R is better for it. That is exactly the situation we have here: Greycap has advertised dinminished power figures for the sake of the Health and Safety Department. If you're willing to let your hair down, break the WRC Regs, and toss a rice cannon (or a hairdryer if you prefer) onto the Mitsu, it will come into its own as a complete tune.

Also, it becomes a fun 4WD drift when tossed on N tires. Basically foolproof as a whole, but will generate impressive angle and smoke if driven bravely (Bravely, not 'skillfully.') enough. Just don't countersteer much; you're still in a 4WD.

Bonus points to whomever finds the point where I switched from third person passive narration to first person narration.:rolleyes:

EDIT: yesterday i tried the Rex Jr., and i tried the non-6.2-mile-special. i really like the car, it needs some time to get used to the drift-attitude of the car, but after this time, you can really have a nice time. sometimes the drifts are hard to bring back, and i did spin a lot on the first rounds at GVS. but i really liked it, you're going into a corner in 2nd gear and slide/drift through it, and when you feel that you loose the rear, just shift into 3rd and you'll accelerate out of the corner!

Still looking forward to more GM cars :sly: I think I should try the Corvette you guys did a long time ago, looks to be one of your quickest, trusty old Corvette. On the other hand, tuner challenge is eating alot of my time. Good thing it's the weekend :lol:

Edit: Just scanning the settings on the MFT C740R and on paper it looks like it could suit my driving style very well, I gotta drive it now, keep your ears open for a review.👍

Edit 2: I was going to put this car off until after Tuner Challenge but I was playing through days of the year (to get a rare second hand car) and my birthday came up on the in game calendar so I thought what better present than an extremely fast Corvette? So here's a review.....
And by extremely fast I mean extremely fast, boy howdy, this is the largest improvement over any default settings I've ever seen (other than maybe one car I can think of, can't remember what it was like default- its wasn't brilliant though), you worked a miracle on this car, originally it wanted to understeer and not go anywhere under brakes, but now it turns really well (still a little high speed understeer) and does what you tell it to under brakes. The car will get very loose however I noticed if you try to go in too hot under brakes, but it ads to the lively feeling of the car inspiring confidence rather than drain it away. This car is now the second quickest car I've TESTED at Grand Valley Speedway, my testing ground for all road cars that get tuned settings, a few seconds behind my Cadillac. I like this car so much, just like Wolf it will almost certainly see future use in races, not as much as my Monaro though :lol: Good job again.

I'm glad that the old tuneups haven't been forgotten! C740R is one of my fastest RWD's, and almost as grippy as X-fire. but if you want Fun and Fast car, try 300Croozin, if you can live with the Pimpstahh-styled car..:lol:

anyway, feel free to request a car unless you're too busy for that.
 
Well I'm almost finished judging the Tuner Challenge on my behalf, so I will have time coming up as far as GT4 goes but then there's other things like family christmases and the such, All I want for Christmas is my two front tee.......I mean some GT4 time. I will not ask for any new cars at the present moment. I'll just let you get on with what you wanna do. 👍 Unless you wanna test my CIEN :sly: It's quicker than the 740R, much quicker, and only 58hp more, check it out at Aussie Tuners.
 
Well... The CIEN is competition for, say, the R390/870GT at a lower power level, just due to the downforce.

I've never driven that car so I can't say, I would like to one day..... It could be competition there with a better driver........ I should buy that 870GT, up until now I haven't seen the point as you could just get the actual race car, but one day I'll give it a go just to compare to my CIEN.👍
 
very well. I was just working on a yellow Evo V. I hadn't noticed before that when you buy AYC, you get adjustable front LSD too.. :dunce: I believe that this car will be very quick when I find a good balance between front LSD and AYC..:mischievous:

People are always with the evos, I gotta tell you, that will be one car I won't test sorry, I know others will, the evos have got their own fan club altogether, but I have had too much experience with riced lancers to like them. Maybe you will stand a chance to change my mind but not likely.
 
We will see if I can make something out of it. I like the looks but not the way they handle. AYC just feels unnatural and it's sort of cheating from my point of view.. because with AYC, you don't need to be a suspension wizard in order to make the car turn at high speed..
 
I'm not sure if you can do it with Evo IV too.. but if you can, it'll be sweet.. although, it basically means that I might have to do my Evo settings a major overhaul..:ouch:
