Selective Colour means we have to have a colour theme or what?

Not really, a selective colour image is
Wikipedia
Selective color is a post-processing technique where most of a photo is converted to black and white, but some parts are left in color. This is usually achieved by using layers and masks in photo editing software (Photoshop, SilverFast or The GIMP for example).

So as an example here is a shot I took at Santa Pod and I did this technique to it:

You can see in my image I tried to capture the action and excitement of the event but you as an artist can interpret it in any way you want. 👍 If you need some more inspiration just take a look at selective colour images on Google.

I would enter, if I could find a suitable car to shoot...

I don't think the car really matters, a good shot is a good shot whether it's a Lamborghini or a Lada. Actually I think photographing an uninteresting car shows off more of your skill because if forces you to be more creative.

A very impressive shot there. :dopey:

Having said that, I just wanted to remind for future entries that there is a 900px limit for the full size shot. If you don't resize it, I'll do it myself when I put the poll up. Thanks. ^^

Great shots guys! Longbow, I can't remember can the creator of the theme actually enter the competition? It's not a situation I've been in before :P

Yes, you can enter. :dopey: I didn't think barring the person who chose the theme from entering was necessary.

I've added my image into my first post.

Just a thought, but perhaps this should be re-worded for the competitions?

Obviously it doesn't count for this particular competition as everyone will be doing a selective colour/"colour splash" image, but I've also noticed in previous competitions that people have used selective colouring when theoretically it's not allowed as per the rule above. Are we going to relax this rule or are we going to tighten it in future so it restricts how much PP work can be done to a photo?

What do people think? From a variety point of view I like to see what people can achieve with loads of PP but at the same time I think there should be fairly clear guidelines on what we can and can't do each week. It's about the photography after all, not arty-farty photoshop work...

Just thought I'd enter for a laugh, the photo's not that good, but I like seeing my beastie up there with Lambo's and Porsche GT3's. :)

Tools used in PS to get the effect: duplicate, desaturate, eraser, contrast...

although I did use a few other things to change the number plate from what it actually is.
