Hi everybody. First of all i want to explain the aim of this thread. I checked the forum, but the most interesting subject was close, so no more feedback possible on it. I made this thread to do a virtual benchmark on NFS Shift on PS3 (Sorry Pc and Xbox).
The aim is to clearly get a ladder of the differents cars of the game (a bit like the Top Gear show).
Test all the cars of the game, with all rating possible is just kind of impossible for a single player (maybe you can do it before the release of GT5, but that's another problem
There will be two differents ladders. One for the stock cars (with stock setup, reward car are allowed), and one for the "rated personaly setuped" cars. The first is a fair benchmark of all cars, and the 2nd allow any players to find his online car, or League car (i mean leagues which are created on this forum).
There will be two time which is going to be record per car, with differents rules. The first is important if you want to contribute to the ladder. The second is for fun (and still optional) because i know that some people will not like to do it.
1) Leagues benchmark
-Pro mode
-All assists = off (abs possible)
-Controller // steering wheel setup = Free
-Shifting = Free
-Clutch = Free
-Forcefeedback = free
-View = Free (back view if you want, but what a waste on this game)
-View assists = Free (but, honestly, is there any green arrow on a real track which become red when you have to brake?
-Damage = All (you are not looking for a wall, right?)
2) Hardcore benchmark (Only players with steering wheel, H-gearbox, and 3 pedals, can do it)
-Pro mode
-All assists = OFF
-Steering wheel setup = Rotation: 900°, Steering sensitivity: 100%, Speed/steering ratio: 0%
-Shifting = H-gearbox (shifting on the wheel is not allowed!)
-Clutch = Manual (automatic clutch= off), with your left foot (yes it's too hard with the right one, i tested it)
-Forcefeedback = Minimum is 6 (out of 10)
-View = Cockpit view. Sorry but drive a real car when your head is on the hood is dangerous (you will loose some skin or hairs at 200mph), and drive a radiocontroled car when you control it from an helicopter flying three meters above the track is REALLY dangerous at Greenhell! (do i really need to explain why?
-View assists = OFF (I mean all, no arrows on the track, no speed indicator on your screen, nothing! And yes you have to complete your lap to see your time, this is really exciting, i guarantee it! If you don't know how to desactivate the screen interface, just push 2 times on the left arrow of your controller)
-Damage = All
I don't ask any video or picture of your time. Because not everybody will be able to do that, and cause a screenshot don't prove anything about the respect of the rules. In two words: Be honest when you contribute (your name won't appear near your time in the benchmark, this is not a "driver ladder", but a "car ladder").
The way you post (please try to respect it, it would be easier for everyone to get clear informations):
Car: give the name and tell if the car is stock or modified one ( give the rating: 4.00, 5.98, 9.80 for example)
Setup: Stock or Modified (you may link your setup to allow everyone to try it, if the setup already exist on a threat, just link the page)
League time: xx,xx.xx
Hardcore time (optional): xx,xx.xx
Comments on the car: ("Wow this car is insane, i can powerslide and cut grasses very easily with it, and the pink colour fit it very well! My mother should buy one in real life!", or something more interesting like the steer-feeling you get with it, or what's wrong with the gear-ratio)
Some advices:
-You should test a car (during long time, during severals hours, severals laps, you must have blood on your hands or anything else liquid) and post the two needed time, instead of posting 20 times about 10 differents cars in 1 day. The real interest is to have the better time for a particular car, not a ton of laptime which can be easily reached.
-If you see that your time progression with a car isn't improving anymore, but you think that you can do a real better time, put your game in "normal mode" (i gonna be flame) while keeping the test-setup.
The grip level is higher and you will be able to take corner at a better speed. You have to get, in "most cases", a "0.8s per minute" (could be more or less depending of the car of course) time-saving in normal mode instead pro-mode.
I mean if you get a 7min00s bestlap in pro-mode you should get a 6min54.xxs in normal mode, for example.
Then back in pro-mode, you will certainly be more confident in corners and get a better race-line. I personnaly use this a lot to build a setup.
-In hardcore mode, whithout any aid, manual clutch, and while using your left foot to clutch (and not to brake), you will have some issues if you don't use it properly.
You should use Heel-Toe downshifting to set goods laptime. (Wikipedia is your friend and some video can be found on youtube.)
Let's try an exemple, you are cruising at 200 mph in 6th gear, you have to brakes and take a turn at 80mph in 3rd gear. Well, you have to downshift (5th, 4th and finally 3rd gear), but, if you downshift too early (before deceleration and entering the turn), or downshift whithout hitting the gases, you will block the wheels which are drive by the engine, the car won't be stable at all during the deceleration.
If you are lucky, you will lost time, if you are not, you can say goodbye to your car or whatever concerning yourself.
-There is another technic, not realistic at all but useable in Nfs Shift: when you brake whithout pushing on the glutch pedal, the engine continue to drive the wheels, and you increase your braking distance, so you are less accurate than you want to be (time lost).
Something you can test that illustrate what i say, pick a car (doesn't matter which), do a quick race, put the 2nd gear, accelerate a little to prevent your car from stalling (yes, it is possible in this game and the time to restart the engine is pretty long!), and stop hitting the gases.
Like in reality (but this is really more in reality) your car is going to go on it own. If you upshift, the speed of your car is going to increase.
So, when you brake, you have to clutch and sustain it during the whole deceleration, then put the gear you need (6th to 3rd in this case without downshifting in 5th, 4th then 3rd).
The better moment to downshift is at the enter of a corner, after deceleration.
Before you leave your left foot from the clutch pedal, accelerate to get the right RPM accorded to your actual speed (this will prevent you to block your wheels, and you need a good knowledge of your car and your gear-ratio setup).
Don't left your foot too promptly from the clutch if you are not sure of your actual RPM or you will spin out during re-acceleration.
All of those phenomenons are growing with the power/torque of the car.
-From my experience, i actually loose 5/6 seconds by using left foot to clutch, Heel-toe downshifting and H-gearbox instead of just using the shifting on the wheel, on a whole Nurburgring lap.
-Concerning the brakes without ABS, when you have to do a brutal deceleration, hit hard the brakes at the beginning to reach the wheels-block limit, then back a little your foot to get a safe zone between the max breaking point and the lock of the wheels.
During a deceleration, the downforce which apply to your car decrease a lot, and forces wich are applying to the brakes decrease too, so becarefull, less downforce mean that your tires get less grip, and less forces to the brakes mean that you will not need the same pressure to block them. You have to adjust your pressure on the brake pedal by progressively decrease it. For exemple, you hit the brakes at 200 mph, you adjust the pressure to prevent locking your wheels at this speed, but if you keep the same pressure limit on your break pedal, your wheels may lock at lower speed.
You really have to work on the deceleration, this is the most difficult thing (imo) to do clean.
If you are looking for a setup, Terronium-12 on this forum can do what you want for you favorite car. But check first if your dream setup doesn't already exist! You can find the subject here: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=120505
I hope this thread will be enjoyed, so just let's post your time!
