Everybody can make mistakes so i think what you do is very good and polite, the other should just except it and not take revench
I race hard online but if I accidently bump someone (eg out braking myself) and they go off I back of and let them back infront, this works most of the time but then there is the odd person who just launches you into the grass.

What you did is standard Sim Racing procedure. It is gesture to let the guy you hit knows that you've made a mistake and you are acknowledging it.
Racing incidents do and will happen, the only difference between an accident and deliberate crashing is the intent. What you did was every bit of right and if everyone is like that we will all be living in a better world.
A common mistake for people following cars in front into a corner is the person behind MUST adjust their brake entry to compansate for the added cars in front. If you don't you will crash into the car in front 100% of the time.
This is exactly why people who can simply do fast laps does not automatically implies they are good at racing, because there is a lot more to it in racing than simply cranking out fast laps.
Jason, i think i have raced you before. what track/car do you normally race with/on?
I remember you from a couple of hours back, we had a great fight on HSR PP650 race. Me in the yellow Elise, you in the dark purple one if I remember correctly. What was the difference over the finish line, about a tenth? And were were at it for three laps! 👍I know exactly what you mean, i have had the same happen and its great when you race against someone clean, i keep forgeting the names of the clean racers, but i hope soon i bump ( not literaly ) into you guys online and maybe we can have a good duel. loving the gt5p! =)

It happens, I just had a race with two other guys at HSR and I was a lot faster than both of them (using an F40). So I let them both pass each time on the long straight, to catch up again and have a real race. One was really lagging behind, so coming up to the last lap (out of 5) I just let the one in 2nd place come in front of me and I started to race him. He was doing quite well and I was about to pass him from his slipstream just before the finish line. But he still rammed me into the wall. So much for sportsmansship. It was fun though.I race hard online but if I accidently bump someone (eg out braking myself) and they go off I back of and let them back infront, this works most of the time but then there is the odd person who just launches you into the grass.

I've played all the GT series, but GT5P is my first online racing. Exactly what is standard sim racing procedure and proper race etiquette? What you did is standard Sim Racing procedure.

The Licenses in previous GT games do a lot to teach the player about proper racing lines and technique, but little about any sort of etiquette. Exactly how should a racer get back on track if they've just spun off? I'm sure it isn't right to get straight back on track in the path of other cars coming up fast, and one should probably let them pass so as to get back on track cleanly without holding anyone up, but how is any beginner racer supposed to know that? I'm sure there are lots of situations where I'm doing the wrong thing due to ignorance rather than lack of sportsmanship.
I'm hoping that PD will address this in the full GT5 by using the Licenses to somehow teach players something about proper racing etiquette, what they should and shouldn't do in certain situations. I don't think penalties alone can do it, especially as they're implemented now where it often seems to be the victim who gets the penalty.
I do try to race cleanly without touching anyone or anything, but my control isn't what it should be and accidents do happen. Yesterday I was doing an offline Event, lost control in a GT-R, spun 180 and came to a complete stop facing an oncoming car on the raceline, who couldn't do anything but smash into me head-on. That was just an accident, I couldn't help it. But then I turned around by crossing the track, getting in the way of a couple more cars, when I probably should have turned the other way, going off track to get back to the race direction. I didn't think of that until afterwards. Offline AI or real players online, it doesn't matter to me, I'd try to do the right thing if I know what that is.
I probably should have learned more about this sort of thing from previous GTs, but when you're only opponents are AI, it didn't seem as important as it does now when I could be racing against 15 other real people.
