I fitted the 'Perfect Pedal' to my cockpit this morning and all I can say is "Wow!" What a difference! 👍
Okay, you've seen the pictures of it (if not, take a look at the first post in this thread); not too different from your standard G25 pedal. It has an oil-filled damper which offers resistance to the travel on the pedal in the same manner as an actual car. The pressure is read by a small circuit board tucked away in the pedal and the info is passed to the G25. It's completely plug-and-play. Don't ask me how it works 'cos I don't know. Magic, probably.
The first thing I noticed is that it has considerably less travel than the standard pedal (a cause of some initial concern actually) and it's a bit harder to push! Fitting is straightforward; obviously, my pedals are already out of the original plastic pedal-box so it was a simple case of removing the old G25 brake pedal and bolting this one in its place. The wire connections are colour-coded so you can't go wrong there. Easy! Now on to testing.
I tried the pedal with "Gran Turismo 5: Prologue", "Need For Speed: Shift" and "Colin McRae: Dirt" over the course of the morning and the results are absolutely superb. You get so much more control over braking with this. The resistance offered by the oil-filled damper is spot on; I can now accurately slow the car as in real life. No more clumsy stabbing the brakes into the corners etc. It's actually quite hard to put into words just how good this is. My initial concerns of the reduced pedal-travel were unfounded, it works like a charm. The pedal gets progressively harder to push as you increase braking pressure and gives you a really good 'feel' to the brakes. It's transformed my cockpit! One thing I would say is that it would probably be better if your pedals were either mounted out of the pedal-box or that the pedal-box is securely fixed to something solid as the force needed to push the pedal has increased (not drastically though!)
Pros:
Accurately simulates a real brake pedal.
Easy to fit.
Superb build quality.
Transforms your driving experience.
Cons:
Could be considered a bit pricey (particularly for non-US customers).
Overall, I highly recommend it and defy anyone not to be impressed! I appreciate that some may consider it expensive but that is purely subjective. For me, it's a must-have. I wouldn't go back to the old G25 pedal now! 👍
