That's a handsome looking car, I love the rear lights and the whole back but I'm not so sure about the roof line just above the windscreen (the kink) and the LED running lights look slightly naff.

All in all not much has really changed, the wheel arches are slighly larger and thats about it.... well you can't tamper with the classic  (which the new beetle was in its own right).

Any news on the flower vase?

I think it's a fantastic improvement over the old car, and a good looking car in itself. It obviously resembles the original Beetle instead of a marshmallow. It's totally unlike anything else on the road. This one is much less cartoonish, especially the interior which is genuinely nice...

...no corny flower holder. In profile I think it looks great and really resembles the original. Plus I love the ducktail spoiler.

I wouldn't be ashamed to drive one. Especially if it was turbo, with a loud exhaust and some mean design cues here and there.

That interior is a massive improvement, looks like they have been influenced by Mini and what people expect out of these niche market cars (the old one had too nasty an interior for the price point). However...

...no corny flower holder.

A part of me just died :indiff:, that's a damn shame because it was one of those rare times when a design studio was allowed to add something truly unique to a mass production car just as a statement.

I wouldn't say it was corny, it was thinking outside the box, a homage to original and it allowed people to put down their individual mark. I guess they thought it was too 'girly' and was culled with everything else in the macho'ing up process.

Robin.

I like it.

The first shot posted above (the red car badly photoshopped onto the Reims GP circuit) is a very good angle to show off the similarity with the classic car - a steeper angle between the top of the windscreen and the roofline, and a steeper screen itself. The line of the rear side windows is very close to the old car too, and the rear arches are more pronounced.

I'd have liked to see the headlights a little more upright, but you can't do that for aerodynamics and pedestrian safety reasons any more.

Visually it's a much smaller looking car, even though it's actually longer than the previous one by about half a foot. I don't agree with the increase in size personally (why must it be so big?) but at least the boot has increased and the cabin looks better packaged - not least due to the much shorter gap between the wheel and the edge of the windscreen compared to the football field the old car had which made visibility awful.

It's actually a pleasing enough design to possibly steal sales from the Scirocco here in Europe. The Golf and Scirocco are apparently very nice to drive too, so that bodes well for the Beetle.

What track is that? I'm guessing it's in France from the words on the advertising.
I'm thinking Rouen or Reims?

Reims. You'll see I mentioned it above ;)

Not that the car is actually there. It's just haphazardly photoshopped to look like it's there.

My first thought: Porsche 356 Supercoupe

Volkswagen did a great job with this one, and definitely fooled us with those earlier spy photos. It looks edgy, and a fair bit more masculine than I would have expected. The interior is fantastic, a far cry from the cutsey-tootsie version that came with the older vehicle. Having it based on the Jetta, the structure should be pretty solid, but it is a shame that they're saddling the 2.5 and TDI with the lesser suspension. The "Sport" offering, with the go-fast goodies from the GLI should be interesting... 200 BHP 2.0T, 6-speed DSG, trick differential and the multi-link rear suspension will be an interesting choice between the GLI and GTI.

I'd honestly buy one. If they price it right, I'd highly consider it over a slew of other vehicles I've been looking at as of late.

Honestly I don't have a problem with last Beetle. Yes it was girly but I like it as an iconic/unique vehicle, and that flower holder is actually one of the hot selling point.

VW did a good job on this man-up Beetle. I just need more time to get used to its new roof-line, everything else is awesome so far.

I though I would never say that but, I do want that redesigned beetle. If VW make a turbocharged 2.0 ( or even 1.4 Turbo ) it should be quite a lot of fun packaged in a cheerful little car. Cool. :D

If prices are reasonable ( for the lesser models ), it might make for a good competitor to the awesome 500. Good job, another VeeDub to add to my christmas list.

Nice, thanks mate.

A third 2.0T R model will be awesome, three body choices carrying proven powerplants and subtle handling abilities. VW is really aiming to be the number one automotive group in the world.

What do you mean by this? Are you talking about the distance horizontally between the wheel and windshield? Because the previous generation's front wheel was under the windshield...

The new car's wheel has moved forward a considerable amount, and the whole front end is longer. Either that, or the cabin has moved rearward depending on how you look at it. Either way, the longer front end was required to get the correct proportions of the classic, while also making it safer in collisions.

Because of the general shape of the Beetle to begin with, this is one of few small cars that doesn't look gargantuan because of all the Euro safety regs.

It kinda has a PT Cruiser feeling to it, except more cool buggy and less laughable can about it.

This thing would instantly shoot up another 100 cool points with a big Bosozoku exhaust pipe sticking up into the air and some big fat rear tires sticking out.

I give you the Beetle Ragster Concept... :)

Those tires and wheels are awesome. R-Compounds?

I wouldn't know but in other pictures you can see they have thin grooves so maybe. Its an amazing looking beetle.

I think he's talking about the steering wheel to windscreen ratio.

I believe the HMS Ark Royal had a comparable setup.

Is that the interior, because it reminds me of an 8 year olds plastic playhouse. Those vents look god awful spanning the dash like that. :yuck:

That was the interior of the old one. And believe it or not, it was worse than it looks.

I actually quite like this. If I was in the market for a new VW, I'd get one of these over the Golf. One, because the current Golf is pretty bleh, but also because I quite like the design (compared to the old one, which I hated everything about so much that I considered it one of the worst cars sold in America).
