Welcome back for Season 3 of our NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship!

This season will feature a 15 total races, featuring a 8-race regular season and a 5-race Chase for the Driver's Championship. There will also be two non-points events: a Budweiser Shootout to start the season, and a Sprint All-Star Race at mid-season for race winners from season 2 and 3. We will also compete for the Manufacturer's Championship and the Owner's Championship for the second time.

All races will be held on Saturday evenings, starting at 4pm EDT (9pm BST) in a public lobby hosted by me. Send a PSN friend request to "Droptop2001gt" if you wish to race in this series.

4pm EDT (9pm BST) - Room opens in a public lobby for an open practice session.
4:45pm EDT (9:45pm BST) - Room is reset, and qualifying begins. All cars qualify on track together.
5pm EDT (10pm BST) - Race begins automatically, with a scheduled start time of 5pm EDT.

POINTS SCORING:

Points will be awarded as follows for the Driver's Championship:

1st place - 20 points
2nd place - 18 points
3rd place - 16 points
4th place - 14 points
5th place - 12 points
6th place - 11 points
7th place - 10 points
8th place - 9 points
9th place - 8 points
10th place - 7 points
11th place - 6 points
12th place - 5 points
13th place - 4 points
14th place - 3 points
15th place - 2 points
16th place - 1 point

+1 point for leading a lap
+1 point for leading the most laps
+1 point for Pole Position

After 8 races, the top 7 drivers in the points standings will all be reset to 300 points, plus 3 bonus points for each victory notched in the first 8 points races. One Chase wild card spot will be awarded to the driver outside the top 7 with the most wins. If no driver outside the top 7 has a win, the wild card slot goes to the driver with the most points. The wild card driver will NOT receive 3 bonus points for any wins from the first 8 races.

At the end of the five Chase races, the driver with the highest point total will be crowned our GTP NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion for Season 3, and will have first pick in the car owner draft for season 4!
-Any ties in total points will be broken by most total wins. If total wins are the same, then most total runner-up finishes is used, then third-place finishes, etc, until a tie-breaker is determined.

The prize payout is as follows:

1st place: Receive any 5 items** from my trading thread
2nd place: Receive any 3 items from my trading thread
3rd place: Receive any 1 item from my trading thread

**1 item is defined as any ONE of the following:
-1 ticket
-1 car
-5 paint chips
-1 set of 30 helmets
-1 set of 30 racing suits

Points will be awarded as follows for the Manufacturer's Championship:

The winning car earns that manufacturer 9 points.
The second-highest finishing manufacturer receives 6 points.
The third-highest finishing manufacturer receives 4 points.

The Manufacturer with the most total points at the end of the season wins the Manufacturer's Championship. Ties will be broken with most total wins, etc.

Owner's Championship Explained:

Every driver will be part of a team for the whole season. There are five team owners, determined by last season's points standings. The five team owners are:

Hendrick: (CrAzY_bAsSiSt_83)
Gibbs: (M-Stall41)
Ford: (JoeOfTheFire)
Red Bull: (MÜLE_9242)
Stewart-Ganassi: (RFLX_Niop)

It is the responsibility of the team owners to fill the seats on their team with full-time drivers, in order to compete for the season-long Team Owner's Championship. The available cars for each team are:

Hendrick Motorsports - 3 cars (#24, #48, #88)
Joe Gibbs Racing - 3 cars (#11, #18, #20)
Ford Racing - 2 cars (#43, #99)
Red Bull Racing - 2 cars (#83 2010 blue, #83 2011 silver)
Stewart-Ganassi Racing - 2 cars (#14, #42)

That gives us 12 cars to choose from five different teams for this season.

The top two finishing cars from each team will earn points for their respective team owners (Hendrick, Gibbs, Red Bull, Ford, Stewart-Ganassi). Points for poles and laps led are not accumulated here, only the finishing position points count. The team with the most total points at the end of the season wins the Owner's Championship. Ties will be broken with most total wins, etc.

RULES and REGULATIONS:

*Any NASCAR race car in GT5 is allowed to participate, 2010 and 2011 models are both legal, GameStop Camry included.
*Power is restricted to 502 horsepower for ALL races using the Engine's Power Limiter function.
*Only Racing Hard tires will be permitted. No other tire compounds of any kind may be used, harder or softer.
*ABS can be set to either 0 or 1.
*All other driving aids (Active Steering, ASM, TCS, SRF, Driving Line) will be disabled on the race setup menu.
*Mechanical Damage is ON, but limited to LIGHT damage.
*Fuel Consumption and Tire Wear is ON.
*Grip Reduction is set to REAL.
*Slipstream is set to WEAK.
*Boost is OFF.
*Visual Damage is OFF.
*Microphones will be set to ON, unless it is determined that they cause too many connection/stability issues.
*RACE CLEAN - It's OK (and expected) to let off of the gas (or even brake) so you don't run over someone in a turn. This is especially true at Daytona and SS Route X, where drafting can cause lots of issues with people being run over in corners. Bumpdrafting is LEGAL, brake-checking is NOT. Dirty drivers will not be permitted to return to later events.
*While cornering, the two outside tires must remain completely on the tarmac/concrete/pavement at all times. Rumble strips are NOT considered part of the tarmac/concrete/pavement. Anyone that is caught cutting corners can be assessed up to a 30-second penalty, per occurrence, at the discretion of the league host.
*NO CAUTIONS - use this as an extra motivation to RACE CLEAN.

PAST SEASONS:

Season One Champion: RFLX_Niop
Season Two Champions: RFLX_Niop, Hendrick Motorsports, Chevrolet

Time to get season 3 started! There's no champions now, we're all starting on equal ground.

Season three is now officially up and running!

The Nationwide series will officially kick off their season this Saturday, with the DRIVE4COPD 300 at Daytona. The Sprint Cup will have the Budweiser Shootout, a non-points exhibition race afterwards.

Done. 👍 Is he running for the Sprint Cup Championship?

Yes he will be 👍

And some questions on the schedule......Are we off Easter Weekend? And are we off Memorial Day weekend? I didn't see that but I don't know if you forgot to consider.

We definitely can be off for Easter weekend, if the majority of the league wishes to be. Not racing on Memorial Day weekend almost seems silly, since it's the biggest weekend of racing in the world (F1 Monaco, Indy 500, Coca Cola 600). But, the majority will rule on this as well. If more drivers need it off than want to race, we'll work together to reach a solution.

Even worse, we might end up adding two more off-weeks to the current schedule. The Sprint All-Star race is the day before my son is due to be born, and the Suzuka East Chase race is on my fifth wedding anniversary. :scared: Don't be surprised if those two weekends become Nationwide-only weekends, though nothing is set in stone as of yet.

Nationwide will run non-stop.

Drop, you could hand the reins to a co-host as the Nationwide Series is doing if I'm not there, Tom will fill in. Of course, not ideal for you if you're in the Chase.

Good luck folks, this series looks just as exciting as the Nationwide.

I filled in with some comments:

We definitely can be off for Easter weekend, if the majority of the league wishes to be. - I don't really care, was just a thought
Not racing on Memorial Day weekend almost seems silly, since it's the biggest weekend of racing in the world (F1 Monaco, Indy 500, Coca Cola 600). But, the majority will rule on this as well. - I will most likely be out of town, not a big deal if I can't race
If more drivers need it off than want to race, we'll work together to reach a solution.

Even worse, we might end up adding two more off-weeks to the current schedule. The Sprint All-Star race is the day before my son is due to be born, - You have my vote to take ALL THE TIME YOU NEED FOR THIS!!! - Life is way more important than this series
and the Suzuka East Chase race is on my fifth wedding anniversary. :scared: - That sounds like a personal day :sly: and I might be out of town too that weekend
Don't be surprised if those two weekends become Nationwide-only weekends, though nothing is set in stone as of yet.

Every series needs a short break. Am I eligible for the shootout?

I don't know about you guys but racing Easter Weekend doesn't bother me, don't tend to do much on the Saturday anyway. Also don't mind racing memorial day weekend either (means a lot more to you guys in the US I know) as the big races are all on Sunday 👍

I'm fine with scheduling breaks into the schedule. There are plenty of tracks that we can run test races at on those weekends, plus the Nationwide to run in. If that's not enough racing for anyone, I think Furi has got about 18 other series running at any given time, I'm sure we could sample some of those. :D

Now that you put it that way, I'm certain that if you don't schedule a few breaks, we will all absolutely hate each other by the end of the season. :P

I obviously can't schedule the break for when my son is going to be born, but there's at least a 70% chance that we will have an off-week the Saturday after it happens. You guys can probably just go ahead and figure June 23rd is an off-week as well. If it all breaks just right, that could be the break between the end of the regular season, and the start of the Chase, which might work out very well for everyone.

FYI guys, the open seat at Red Bull has been filled. Just waiting to get the details from the new guy before I make a "formal" announcement.
