Great racing last night everyone! Pity Penelope couldn't stay for the show-down in Race 3 as she would have had a good chance of taking that evening's crown.
Race 1 looked as though the positions 1-3 were set going into the last chicane, but then, I think a) Nic braked a little too late, so b) I had to lift a bit going into the chicane, and c) at the exit of said chicane somebody not so conveniently placed two huge blocks on the track. Me and Nic both took on one of them, and somehow Penelope slipped through in this mess to take the win out of third. I didn't even notice that Nic and Penelope had swapped positions until the result came up, because they were both clad in white. But then, I had a big block of styrofoam in front of my windscreen blocking my view.
Race 2 for me mainly consisted of a) realising my mind was in Nordschleife, and not 24h-circuit mode (I braked for the right-hander at the end of the lap instead of accelerating onto start/finish) and b) finding a spot to overtake Corey and StreetKing. Which I didn't until mid of lap 2, but then Penelope was on my tail again and overtook me up the hill, I managed to retake the position after the left-hand kink, only to slip wide at the exit of the following right-hand kink by about an estimated 10cm, which was enough to send me flying into the barrier in the following braking zone with dirty tyres. Cost me 3 positions to Pen, SK and Corey again, two of which I managed to gain back until the finishing line. P3 wasn't too bad for those mistakes.
The beginning of Race 3 was very tight and I touched a couple of other cars, but fortunately not hard enough to disrupt anyone's race. Found myself quickly up the order in 3rd at Bergwerk behind Dan/Ste100e where we braked side-by-side and he moved to the inside where I already was. I had some space then for the first time in the two 24h-circuit races and was able to reel in the leader (who was it again at this point?) by the long straight (Döttinger Höhe). Got a nice slipstream which is where you saw the big advantage of the BMW over the Audi - I went flying past and the Audi couldn't pick speed fast enough to follow. Although I braked way too late for the first chicane in lap 2, I was then able to put some space between me and Nic so that when he came up into second I had a nice 5-6 second lead that I was able to maintain to the end.
Again, great fun and mostly very clean racing!
