Hey fellow D1 drivers. I forgot to save the replay for race 6 last night and need it for data entry. If anyone has it can you post on here so I can figure out how to get it? Thanks.

ANOTHER REMINDER AND A REQUEST

Per our 2013 calendar, I wanted to remind everyone that we won't have an official league night next Sunday due to Memorial Day weekend. Therefore, we'll actually be wrapping up the May season on June 2nd.

That being said, there will still be plenty of SNAILs who'll want to get their Sunday night racing fix! So if you have a good idea for a special event this Sunday night, please post your idea on the thread. If there are multiple suggestions that result in a lot of conversation, we can always take a vote. We could also run separate events in the multiple SNAIL_DivisionX lounges. It's whatever you guys want! We always stick to a strict format on Sunday night, so this is your chance to shake things up! Let's hear your ideas! :dopey:

i think we should do fgt or f2007 @ monaco. lmp or indy cars at indy and nascars @ charlotte??? or daytona

I practiced but not as much as I would have liked. Braking zones were a little intense but overall enjoyed the night of racing.

Hi there,
i would like to join if i may please
Hi there bluesix,

Thanks for your interest! We would love to have you in the series. Here's what you need to know and do in order to join:

We run a clean league by enforcing a strict penalty system based on the S.N.A.I.L. OLR (which is a modified version of the GTP OLR). We also expect all of our drivers to know and follow The Good Racecraft Guide.
Please become versed in both if you aren't already. Once that is complete, please follow the steps below to complete your entry into the league:

1. You run the Time Trial. (NOTE: The tires selected for this have more grip than our current tire regulations allow, but please follow the directions exactly anyways).
2. You PM kcheeb with your time from the time trial (no Sunday racing until this is completed).
3. We assign you to the division that we feel will give you the closest competition.
4. We send you a you a PSN friend request from the corresponding SNAIL_Division1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 account. That PSN account's lounge is where you will race on Sunday night.
6. You drive fast and clean on Sunday 👍

The original post has everything you need to know about what to expect on Sunday night and what you will need to have completed in order to be competitive. If you have any questions, please feel free to post your question on the thread.

Please note that we often race DLC from three add-on packs:

Racing Car Pack
Course Pack
Twin Ring Motegi Pack

If you don't have these add-on packs, you will need to sit out the races in which they are used.

If you have a preference for car/wheel colour and racing number, post your choices in this thread.
To avoid duplication, the currently claimed combinations can be found here.

During the week we run a number of different events, we encourage all SNAILs to join as many as possible.

Welcome to S.N.A.I.L.

Reckon I'm gonna start the Nurb 24 hour. Someone mark the time. If I'm not back by this time next week, send in the National Guard please.

Sorry for bringing up the idea dragon. I started it too. Only got an hour and forty minutes done so far.
I heard a good way to run that is to use the redbull. Build up a huge gap then take a break and just let it run. come back build up a gap and repeat

Nah I would actually rather do the driving. Doing it with a 908 since it has good headlights and the ring gets very very dark at night. :nervous::nervous::nervous:

Werd brother. With non broken in cars and zero practice I somehow managed 80 points, fast lap on 4 of the 6 races and three podiums (1 win and 2 2nd place).

The problem is that it took all of qualifying and a couple of laps into the race before I was up to speed on the new car and track combo.

It's a victory for me just being able to race :)

Since you always mention that you race with non broken in cars, I assume you'd rather not have to do that. If you don't have time to break them in yourself, why not take advantage of offers from others to help you with that? :)

Anyways...wife was working on the computer last night so I jumped in with 5 minutes to spare. Still not a fan of the sprint race format. Thinking the races would go more smoothly with qualifying on the first track and reverse grid the rest of the night. Would take away 25 minutes of qualifying time and add it to the actual racing time. Would cut down on the urgency to get to the front. You've heard it all before though so doubt it will change.

We tried another idea back in January to decrease the amount of racecraft incidents, but it was pretty overwhelmingly shot down. However, many who didn't like that format stated that it was because they enjoyed reverse-grid races. The format you described above is what Owens suggested back in March, but it might have a better shot at getting adopted because it doesn't do away with those ever-so-popular reverse-grid races. :sly:

The main thing I don't like about that format is that it does away with the qualifying session before Rounds 2 and 3. Having a 10-minute qualifying session before every combo is nice is because, as you know, there are drivers who use qualifying to get familiar with the combos for the first time. Believe it or not, a lot guys in the league don't practice before Sunday night (they just don't feel the need to remind everyone about it all the time ;)).

Even for those who are already familiar with a given combo, those few precious laps are a way to re-familiarize themselves with it and also get the previous combo's handling characteristics out of there system. If we got rid of qualifying before the second two combos, I'm guessing there'd be a lot more incidents in those races because there would be drivers racing to Turn 1 without any real experience in those combos - and that's not a formula for good, clean, incident-free racing. :nervous:

What if we were to take take the suggested format, but still allow time for qualifying laps. But instead of using the results of the qualifying to set the grid for that race, we could simply use it as a warm-up session so that everyone has a good feel for the combo before the green flag drops. We could still award a "pole bonus" for the driver who sets the fastest lap during those 10-minutes, but the winner of that would just get 1 point and not actually get pole (since the grid would be a set by reversing the grid of the previous race). Of course, the exception to that would be Round 1's race since there wouldn't be any previous race results to reverse. In a nutshell, Round 1's race would be set to "Fastest First", while the Round 2 and 3 race would be set to "Reverse Grid".

Obviously, keeping qualifying sessions for each round would mean that we wouldn't be able to have three 25-minute races and still keep everything under 2 hours. However, three 20-minute races would be very easy to pull off within the 2-hour target. In fact, it'd be quicker than the current format because there'd be three less races to score, change the settings, and save replays for. All in all, the track time each night would remain the same, but the races would be twice as long (which would theoretically result in twice as much patience, right?). All while keeping the reverse-grid races in play! Thoughts? Suggestions? Who wants to try this out on Wednesday night? :)

Wow. That was a helluva battle 'tween Wolf and Dabney in race 5. Watched that replay twice just so I could focus on that. Was some good racing.

I wish I could race every race like that one! Felt so good! 👍 It was tight all 5 laps around.

Round 3 - Race 1

As stated by Dragon.. the Helluva race:
@Dabney, awesome pass on the last chicane; no contact and amazing how you were able to stick that one. 👍👍

0.194 seconds difference

Of course, the exception to that would be Round 1's race since there wouldn't be any previous race results to reverse. In a nutshell, Round 1's race would be set to "Fastest First", while the Round 2 and 3 race would be set to "Reverse Grid".

When I've hosted practice the last few weeks; unless someone objected, we have run only qualifying at the 1st race and then every other race was reverse grid. I think we could give the 20 minute races a chance on Wednesday. It is a good idea. 👍

I like the idea Zero, anything to bring race length out and slow down the rapid aggressive moves for the lead. ;) truly believe it would lead to less incidents and hard feelings during the night.

Could get froggy with that tire wear and set it to where a pit stop is needed. ;)

Thank you zer0, 'cheeb and the D4 gang for stepping up and helping out!! Also a special thank you to moperlover for helping out as well. He has been trying hard all month to help me reign in some of the D4 chaos. 👍👍
I think having a host with a better connection than we do should help iron out most of our lag issues!! Again, thanks everyone!!

Sorry for bringing up the idea dragon. I started it too. Only got an hour and forty minutes done so far.

Taking a little break at the moment with 1:11:13.600 down, first pit stop, in first place with a 2+ miniute lead in 100% rain. I hate the rain.

Hmmm, I think I'll start it up myself.
Owens and I were discussing how to run that and still maintain online capability. He's gonna try it out and see if what he thinks will work, works, then post up what he did.

Did this with Lemans. The car is just to much for Nurb. I could only drive it about 45 minutes at sarthe and then "I needed 8 hours of sleep and a bowl of wheaties." ;) :sly: Who remembers that quote by the way?

The 908 is what I am using. It will probably take longer to build a rest gap up, but with the lame race save it should be alright. Still won't get done before next weekend. Will only be able to run 2-4 hours during the weeknights and hope to hit 7-8 this weekend. Be nice if I could get my boy over here to run some laps for me...

Welcome to S.N.A.I.L.

Thank you for having me, time trial result already sent.

Woot another D1 Alien. Welcome Remy.

Hi Jeff, great to see you again. I'm not racing as much as before, just occasionally now as i am quite busier than before. Hope you are well too, looking forward to race together again 👍

Yeah. Thanks to both of you for your work in D4. Last night was a little chaotic.

Sat down tonight for a quick photo session on the first race. It had to be lag as moper, chatva, and I were just flopping around the track in a cloud of tire smoke. Oh well.

Good news is I think I'll have some pretty amazing shots of our races. (Tomorrow or Wednesday) Laguna's lighting makes for some great shots. The warm filter really shines if you catch the right light angles.

How did you manage only one pit stop? The car runs out of fuel if you go over 6 laps. Had to pit twice so far. I might be driving a bit harder though, my gap is seven minutes.

I will go for some simple suggestions...

Triple penalties in the first lap. Double or triple them again in reverse grid.

If you think "I was just carrying speed into the corner..." allows you to ram someone, then... x9 seems appropriate, honestly. Learn to brake, or drive clean, if that applies. Yes Zer05ive, I have put in the relevant complaints on those races. The pattern of reverse grid getting messed up by over-assertiveness is not new, nor hidden by some super-secret cabal of internet-exclusiveness-dudes. Really.

If you double the duration of the races, then it doubles the penalties of any disconnects, just as a point of order.

Beyond that, I'll refrain from editorializing on this.

Longer races... I'm against.

Penalizing poor passing, shoving into the gravel, into a divider, or pushing a car off the track, I'm for increasing the penalty. Dramatically. Racing 'incident' or not.

My insurance company doesn't care about my 'intent' if an accident happens, and if I total a bajillion dollar car, or a junky car, it sure does matter. What I 'owe' is directly related to the damage I cause. I guess 'impact' should be a consideration, but I have been in the minority in that in the past.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Who wants to try this out on Wednesday night? :)

I love it. I'm in for 20 or even 30 minute races with a 10 minute qualifier before the first...3 x 30 is still only 90 mins, +10 mins is 100, which is 20 mins short of the 120 in 2 hrs.

Longer races FTW!

Question tho...do we implement a pitstop rule then? Tires should be ok, but... I guess I'm just thinking back to LeMons days..

Longer races... I'm against.

Longer races FTW!

How about a compromise? We could run two heat races with the first combo, and two longer races with the second two combos. The second race would be reverse grid, the fourth based on previous race results, and the last reverse grid. This would allow a new Prize C, where that winner gets to choose the order of the races for the evening.

Although longer races sounds better I think it might lead to more people quitting mid race. I like the idea though. Don't know if I would want more penalties for reverse but a first turn rule could help

Like dabs idea too

not sure why we'd need more/stronger penalties...longer races mean more opportunities to pass, so people aren't hell bent on gettin 'er done (as has been said). Bunching up the 1st corner is just a fact of life..
