The members of the GTP community produce some stunning works of art with the digital photos produced in GT5. Many of us use them as wallpaper on our computers, so why not pop them into a calendar to hang on your wall? That is exactly what we aim to do!

The competition is simple: following the established rules of the existing competitions within the community we will select 12 photos to represent the "Best of GTPlanet" and place them into a professionally made wall calendar that will be available to purchase online. No profit will be made other than to have a good time!

  • Each month will present a different theme, as open as possible. Entries must fit into the theme in some way.
  • Each month will have a period of entry of two weeks so as to give ample time for everyone to join.
  • There will be no judging so every entry will make it to the poll to be voted on by your peers. The poll will also run for a two week period immediately(-ish) after entries are closed.
  • Images may be edited as long as they adhere to GTP 2.0 Competition guidelines, listed below.
  • Please be sure to also read the "Additional Information" below as it is specific to this competition!

That's it! Hopefully we will see some great entries and have a great calendar for next year!

THEME
Further explanation of the theme:

Into the second month of the year now and the most popular racing in the US is getting ready to start. Show us some NASCAR and Daytona 500! Capture the high speed on the oval or the organized chaos of put lane. To broaden the theme we will open up to oval racing in general though NASCAR will be the preference for this month.

RULES
Please, ensure you read and understand all requirements for this competition. Failure to follow the rules may result in disqualification. If you have questions, send me a Private Message.
This Thread will answer many possible questions you may have.

  • It is recommended you host your image on ImageShack, Photobucket, or Flickr.
  • Not sure how to post a thumbnail or preview image? Read this sticky!
  • Please use a clickable-preview to full-size, not a separate text link for it;
it makes poll creation much easier!

  • One entry per user. It must be your own work, and never previously used in a comp.
  • Do not ask other users to choose your entry.
  • Absolutely no hybrid, hacked cars, or cars obtained through such means.
  • Mark your FINAL ENTRY clearly, with red text.
  • You may change your entry once. Do it clearly; edit out your previous entry, and either post the new one in a new reply, or in place of the original.
  • When submitting, use either a thumbnail or a preview image, linked to the full-sizer.
  • Preview images can not exceed 500 pixels in either direction.
  • A preview image must be representative of the full-size image. Do not add effects to it.
  • Do not post "Honourable Mentions" or outtakes - just your Final Entry, that's all.
  • The Host may ask for the original image and it must be submitted if so. It's recommended to save the original image (preferably in-game) until week's ends.

Failure to follow these rules will result in ignored entries and/or disqualification!

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • Only one image per person will be allowed in the final calendar. Essentially, if you win one month, you may not participate in further polls. This is to allow everyone a chance and to have a diverse final product.
  • Image size recommended by CafePress for the calendar images is 11.5" x 9" @ 200DPI, roughly a 2300 x 1800 resolution @ 200 DPI. You may use a smaller image to link your poll entry but should you win, please be prepared to submit a final image as close to this size as possible. This resolution can be achieved by using Magnification x2 in your camera options when shooting your photos.
  • If you will be busy, out of town or otherwise unable to enter as we go along you may prepare an entry ahead of time using the below themes. Do not submit entries until the appropriate month!
    • January - Cool filters, snow
    • February - Daytona 500, NASCAR/race cars, oval racing
    • March - Nature
    • April - Rain, wet conditions (no snow)
    • May - Indy 500, Monaco GP, Nurburgring 24h
    • June - Le Mans, summer, heat
    • July - US muscle cars (modern and classic)
    • August - Warm filters, family vacation
    • September - City tracks
    • October - Night, dark, "scary"
    • November - Open! "What are you thankful for?"
    • December - Christmas and New Years holiday season
  • If you will be away from your computer during a specific period and still wish to enter you may designate someone to enter your prepared image on your behalf. Please try to avoid this unless as a last resort.

EDITING
What you may not do to a photo:
  • Alter the geometry of the car. No stickers, or body modifications not available in game.
  • Add shapes or objects from outside of GT5, signatures excepted.
  • Add lens flares or "artistic" filters to image.
  • Remove items from shot (scenery, other cars).
  • Use more than 1 image (HDR, photo-stitching, multi-exposure).
  • "Creative cropping". The main "image" must be four-sided, with 90-degree, upright corners.
  • Selective car colour changing: masking different parts to create racing stripes or similar.

What you may do to a photo:
  • Crop and/or resize an image.
  • Adjust the level or curve values.
  • Alter the colour tone of the image (gradient maps, photo filters, colour balance, etc).
  • Car body colour change (all stickers/design features must remain, see "Remove Items" rule).
  • Adjust brightness, contrast, exposure, shadow/highlights.
  • Enhance shadows or highlights (dodge and burn tools in Photoshop, for example).
  • Add noise and/or diffuse glow.
  • Add a post-game tilt-shift blur, or apply a motion blur to a stationary Photomode shot.
  • Make use of Layer Blend Modes.
  • Use a Sharpening filter and/or tool.
  • Scale or enlarge rims.
  • Remove or modify license plates.
  • Remove the GT watermark.
  • Add a personal signature.
  • Clean up or fix jaggies, texture pixelation, or colour separation.
  • Add a vignette effect.

DEADLINE
June 30th, 2013

Has to be the worlds most dreadful form of motor racing in my opinion. The photos here will make it look better than it actually is!

Each to their own though, good luck everyone 👍

Looks like this is a rough theme. :embarrassed: A few more days left if anyone wants to put something in the hat.

In other news, I will have the January poll as well as the March theme up tonight, roughly 8-10 hours from now.

Poll goes up tonight! Get your last minute entries in!

And we're done with February! Thanks for the entries!
