Menu and Online Multiplayer Walkthrough Revised

Second attempt at Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Menu and Online Walkthrough.

First attempt didn't show the screen much and there were request to see the screens.

I quickly filmed this race to show the Online Event Window to give an idea to those that haven't seen how it works yet.

Basically, the Online Event lists 8 events to choose from. Some are race events where the others are time trials. The race events allow for multiplayer online play. I've played with up to 16 players, 8 players, and as small as 4 players.

In this video, I raced around Suzuka Circuit with the Nissan R34 GT-R using in car view with using the clutch feature on the Logitech G25.

There are some rough races, where drivers are driving everywhere on the course and hitting each other. The penalties help to allow some smooth play. Those that break the rules get penalized by not allowing to accelerate for a short amount of time. Not quite sure how it calculates it, but I think it depends on how serious the penalty was. Those cars will turn into ghost cars and you can drive through them preventing them from interfering with your race.

In this race, I was lucky not to run into much of that besides one bump that threw me of course some.

Added: December 27, 2007 below

Playing online using the Nissan R34 I had a competitive race in this video. I did my best early on in the race to avoid the early collisions that happen in the beginning of most Online races. This was actually a decent race. Not much bumping, but you see some early on where I was able to avoid it. Then on lap two, those that fell off were far enough behind to turn it into a nice one on one battle up top. I battled it out for first place with a Red WRX Sti that had taken the lead early on...but I worked my way up there on the last lap.

enjoy. (less)

omg! now that was awesome!!! i cant wait for it to arrive. i look forward to racing you, whats your ID? mine is daninjarider. looks i need to trade in my dfp, that looks like too much fun with the g25

Was good to hear you saying about you'll bide your time and wait for an oppurtunity to pass, I think that can be quite rare in online racing!

If I could branch off-topic briefly, what TV is that you've got there?

Look forward to seeing you online once I get GT5P.

Sony 42 inch 1080i HTDV. Don't have model number handy, but if it's important send me a PM and I'll find out.

Nice vid! Breaker, you got a S2000?

Thanks bro. Yea, I got a Berlina with all Red interior S2000. It's a fun car!

Nice driving there. And I'm with Shawn...still waiting on the game to arrive :( . Cant wait to hook up the DFP and race with good, clean drivers like you.

Nice video

its Suzuka Btw ;)

You're correct. I gotta fix that.

Hopefully we can organize our own lobby games in the final version. I'm happy with the progress so far though.

Nice, AP1 Grand Prix White/ Tan here.

GPW is pretty clean. I like it too.

everytime you switched gear i thought you'd break the thing XD

haha :P

Yea I noticed you were kinda rough with that shifter lol:tup: but I know I'd do the same if I had your setup.

Now that was good racing. I didn't get lucky enough to have a good race yet.

Once again, this is a great video BreakerOhio. The online mode seems kinda cool at points. But yeah, you can't avoid cheaters as well. In any online community, there would always be the bad guys. Also, you can't blame other people if they hit you, sometimes its just their bad internet connections which ruins the race. 👎 Hopefully, PD would really redo the whole online thing by GT5. Playing against random people is a let down, especially if your up against those "punks" who just rams people of the road to amuse themselves.

But the interesting part that you said was that each event would only last a few months. So that means they can shuffle the events on the prologue to keep things interesting. How do you know when they are gonna change the event with some other circuit? Also, do they ask you to download the patch or automatically update? So like, is there any mentioned of an online drifting sessions? It would be cool to see you drift again. Having some tsuiso runs with some other members of DriftDojo. It would be amazing to see what you guys can do online. 👍

The current events will go on till 10th of January according to the website, then be changed I assume.

When you start prologue it will auto prompt for the patch download.

No drift mode included or known to be included in future GT5P updates, but that doesnt stop anyone drifting anyway, the physics dont change at all.

What does that mean, "Events will change"? Does it mean events will be added, some will be removed? I don't get it.

I do not have GT5P yet, so I can't really see what it means by "events".

i posted this in another forum. thought it might help some to get the idea of what BreakerOhio is talking about

basically there are 8 races to choose from. First 4 = Race Online with other drivers and Next 4 = Time Trials

each race has its own requirements (eg. using a certain class of cars, specific tyres or even specific car like the Elise where all drivers are using the same car/tyres to race) :)

Great vid fella, really enjoyed it and it was good to see you had a close clean battle (besides the odd bump) :sly:

I noticed you commented about the different symbls on the helmet icon in the lobby and how these mean that people are trying to connect to that game. It would be handy to know because sometimes you can be waiting for a few minutes to find a game but in your case, you found a game very quickly.

Cheers fella and top driving

The G25 is tough. j/k
I try to becareful with it, and I am really just shifting quickly, but not banging it into gear or anything like that. I think the sound that the G25 makes...it clicks each time to go into or out of gear. The out of gear and then quickly into next gear clicks gives a false sense of rough play. "click" "click" and it sounds rough. I'm just quickly putting it in gear.

It was good timing to film and get this result. I was very surprised that there were no collisions in the very first turn. Usually I start in the back, but that time I was able to jump ahead and I think that's what helped to make it a smooth race.

I have another recording where I'm using the Lotus, simulation physics with 15 other players on Fuji. It shows some madness that can go on, but also shows if you are patient and drive cautiously of them, they will end up falling behind from driving like idiots. It was a 3 lap race and I got bumbed many times and had to avoid a lot of cars driving arcoss the screen. It will show how they turn into ghost cars and allow you go drive right through them. I can upload it tonight if anyone is interested.

Each event has a description that contains two dates. One that says 12-24-2007 and another that says 1-09-2008. There are Japanese words that I can't translate in front, but I'm guessing this means the window in which this event is available. I like this idea, it will keep Prologue interesting throughout the new year as we await the release of GT5.

When we can create our own rooms for selective play between PSN IDs then we can do some tandem drifting. :)

I'd like to see drift trials added and done similarly too. Create a drift event that is up for a certain timeframe just like these 8 online events right now. And after that time frame, choose a new car for people to work on. The only car in simulation physics to play online with is the Lotus challenge. All other cars are required to be Lotus also. So I can't wait until they patch it again and change the event to another car.

Does anyone have any idea what those rainbow-lights with 1-4 sqaures should mean on the prompt-screen?

So, is the term "changing events" an inaccuracy of the translation? Do they really mean that that they will be "adding" events? Or, am I right in thinking that they will be removing [some] current events?

I really wish PD could just add ability to host your own online race with just a password or something, something really straight forward and simple... nothing too complex that would take too much time but just something to make the online a lot better for people who want to race seriously and properly :P (Guess we'll have to wait the 15th or so january)

That will probably be available in the final release.

I think the Online event idea is not bad. You also get credits for winning the online races. So in a way, if you are looking to earn more credits, you can enjoy it via online racing against total strangers or through single player verse the AI cars. On top of that it seems like they will be change the events after January 9th so that there will be new online race events. Think of it like a Track Day event. You participate if you agree to the rules, or you want until the next track day to come. This prolongs the game, keeps it interesting.

I'm sure the private room idea was thought of. However hosting it in Japan to allow users that are in proximity to each other play could be better if the users that want to play sync up on their own through a LAN linked game via some tunneling program like xlink. This will take the load off the servers and reduce the possible pings between the users if they don't have good ping with the servers in Japan. It's a win win for both sides.

Reduce the load on the servers in Japan that are hosting the online events and tracking records. Thats the venue that allows everyone around the world to be visible and play together. But keep the LAN feature that was available in GT4 so that we have option to LAN on our owns for these private sessions that don't require their servers to worry about operating.

We can all LAN up through virtual tunneling networks and play LAN games if not done through their servers. This will separate the processing and load that is on their servers.

Maybe what they will do is...Allow the servers in Japan that host the online events to provide this service mainly for what it is now recording online event results, host some special multiplayer racing events like they are doing now, and distributing credits for an online career mode. This gives an alternative and extends the life of the single career game mode. Imagine if their servers were processing all the requests to host these private arena games for people that spanned the globe, is it possible that they are still working out that idea or the idea of separating this Online Events (with limited mulitplayer events-helps the operating cost until enough servers are up around the world) to LAN (online capable through xlink) idea.

The other multiplayer idea of having private rooms I think was not implemented of given to us yet because with Prologue being a preview to GT5, this is giving us a taste of what the possibilities are. I like it. I will keep the game going long after career mode is over with. New events and challenges every 2-3 weeks.
