Okay I got my PS3 for Christmas because I wanted a BluRay player. Went on and picked up F1: CE and Force Unleashed. Now I've been out of the PS market for several years... probably launch of the PS2. Since then I've had the Xbox and the 360. What games have I missed, and what games do I need to go pick up?

Also, I'm so use to XBOX live. What can I expect from online play with the PS3 I noticed it doesn't come with a headset, and the F1: CE rooms don't support voice chat.

One more thing, accessories. Are there any that I need to run out and get?

Edit: Planning on getting a G25 in the next few weeks :D I'll get GT5 P when the wheel comes in.

You should probably pick up a copy of GT5P, its only a prologue but you could easily find a copy for under €20 and its well worth that.
Also Killzone 2 looks pretty eh unreal! I havent got it yet but plan to within the next week or two. Or if your looking for something a bit cheaper COD4 is brilliant, as is the newer COD World at War, but its set in WWII (although you probably have these on Xbox 360).
Theres also loads of PSN games which some people reckon are brilliant like PAIN or Warhawk. If you want something for the whole family BuzzTV is unbeatable. And if you want something a little bit different and creative Little Big Planet might be for you. And even then I'm sure I'm missing loads, Ferrari Challenge might go well with your wheel.

You wont need your credit card before you even enter it! :sly: Apart from that they're quite similar. In game XMB is standard now and Home is a nice new second life esque thing (not game) that is free and constantly developing, EA are launching a huge area in it soon (April I think), which should be brilliant. Also the American version has an area for Warhawk which will interact well with the actual game.

F1CE was a launch title that didnt support in-game voice chat, however most newer games do, with the notable exception of GT5P.

Eh nothing is really needed, a headset would be nice, but I would say at least a keyboard is essential especially if you plan on spending time in Home.

Must haves:
GT5P of course
Uncharted, still my favourite ps3 experience to date. I think that the reviews were a little harsh on it although still very good (metacritic 88?).
Metal Gear Solid 4. I felt that the gameplay was a little better than Uncharted but the cut scenes were just a little too long. They were very well done just too long. That's just enough for me to put Uncharted first.
Little big planet.

Other great games:
Killzone 2
Motorstorm 1 and 2
Ferrari Challenge
Wipeout HD
Pixel Junk Monsters

If you buy a bluetooth headset, you can use it with your cell phone as well as with your ps3.

I had a PS3 for a month and the best couple game I played was by far Uncharted. Beautiful game that even had full 3D reacting water effects. Reminded me of the Far Cry series with the tropical colorful envirnment. Heavenly Sword was also very good. I heard Little Big Planet is also very good. GTP5 is also worth checking out. I heard one of the best games out right now for the PS3 is Killzone 2 so also check that out and the others that have been listed in this thread.

Well, you said you are getting GT5P, so that's good. What kind of games do you like? Better yet, what 360 games do you like and we can point you in the right direction, but for my favorites:

MGS4
Uncharted
LittleBigPlanet
Flower (PSN Store)
Super Stardust HD (PSN Store)
High Velocity Bowling (PSN Store)

What can I expect from online play with the PS3
It varies from game to game as Sony doesn't have as strict of rules as Live does for developers. Most games now use voice chat, but some early ones didn't. And at the moment you cannot chat with anyone outside of the game you are playing like you can on Live.

One more thing, accessories. Are there any that I need to run out and get?
Like you said, it doesn't come with a headset. Most any bluetooth headset for a cell phone will work. They sell an official one for $50 or bundled with SOCOM and EndWar. If you can still find a Warhawk bundle in stores they come with a Jabra BT125, or you can find a standalone one in someplace like Best Buy for $20-$30. I have the Jabra and it is good enough. I use it for my cell phone too.

A Blu-Ray remote. If you are using it for movies this is a huge bonus. It' bluetooth, so it won't work with anything else in your house, but you can also be in another room or have it pointing away and control the system. It will also navigate the XMB very well. Unless I am specifically playing a game I do not pull out my DS3. I use the remote for movies, music, and pictures.

Also, if you intend to use the Web browser very extensively or even use text chat in games, or various other things, a USB keyboard (mouse optional) is extremely useful. I have a wireless one so I can sit on my sofa. They do sell a bluetooth keyboard for the PS3 for $80, but any $20-$30 USB wireless one will do. I use it for sending messages, using the browser, editing file info on my media, and even on the You Tube upload feature found in some games.

Search through the PS3 stuff to find any extended conversations on various games.

I'll leave out the basic sports games like Hockey (I'm a 2k not ea fan)

Bioshock is awesome
Halo's are eh, I can take them or leave them. Mainly have those for friends.
Forza 1/2 are my fav's
not much of a NFS fan

I really enjoyed force unleashed. I know it was short, but I've played through it a couple of times and nothing beats throwing a storm trooper out the windows.

I thought about checking out Devil May Cry 4, and I'm awaiting the new FFXIII.

I was really into the nascar games in 05, (actually ranked 26th best on Xlive for a lonnng time) Then they came out with 06 and it sucked massive balls.

Keep the suggestions coming. I've been looking up the games and checking them out. I think I'll sign up for Game Fly and check them out.

LittleBigPlanet and Flower also get my votes.

To be honest, you're as well waiting for GT5 now rather than buying GT5P.

This is the best way to try before you buy. The fact that they have an option to buy the game you currently have rented, and then they send you the book and case, makes it extremely awesome.

You sure? For the price of GT5P these days it's well worth the purchase (even if GT5 was only a month away).

I've got:
GT5P
Ferrari Challenge
Formula 1 '06 Championship Edition
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune
Fight Night Round 3
Grand Theft Auto IV

And I'd regard them as must-haves, all awesome games.

I "realistic" racing is what you care about, then buy GT5P and Ferrari Challenge (I read you already have F1:CE). These three games are the best available in PS3 racing.

Other genres ... I really don't know. My next buys will be GT5, Supercar Challenge and Need for Speed: Shift, but none of them is released yet.

I've also got the Megadrive(Genesis) collection, and Virtua Fighter 5, but they aren't really must haves... :D

Metal Gear Solid 4
MotoGP 08 (if you want a motorcycle racer)
Ferrari Challenge (if not only to fall back on when you get bored with F1CE and GT5P)
Killzone 2
Fallout 3

Those five can give you a lot of playback for the money. I know Fallout 3 has taken at least 70 hours of my life, which is more than an hour/dollar.

Went on and picked up F1: CE

Great game , better get all of the online play that you can get in on - NOW.
As of 5/12/09 the F1CE servers are going offline. :grumpy:

Offline - the career mode is pretty amazing , you'll have fun with it. 👍

Really? Those BASTARDS! :(

If you like arcade racer, I would suggest Burnout Paradise. It's one of the few games where the PS3 was used as the lead platform. It works great with PSN and it has a few more online features than the 360 version. My next suggestion is to go to PS Store and get Wipeout HD- it runs at 1080p and 60fps and pure eyecandy. There's also photomode that allows you to save at full resolution. If you're getting a G25, Ferrari Challenge is a must. After the latest update, FC has transformed into a more than capable racing sim. Of course, Killzone 2 even if you're not a big fan of FPS, this game might be the one to transform you as I did me. Metal Gear Solid 4 is you prefer a more deliberate and stealth gameplay. And like so many PS3 exclusive, the graphics in MGS4 is incredible.
My favorite PS3 accesory is my Logitech DiNovo mini keyboard and clickpad. It works great with the PS3 and with Windows Media.

Some sugestions.

Uncharted drakes's fortune. One of the most beatifull games on PS3 combined with a really good story. Gameplay is kinda like tomb raider series. You can find it cheap as its been out as platinium edition for quite a while.

Metal gear solid 4. Might be a litle hard to get into if you are not familar with the Metal gear story, but still its proberly the best game to this date on PS3.

Gt5 P + Ferrari challenge. If you are into racing sim style, both of these are must have.

Burnout paradise. While its not realistic in any way, its super fun, and hands down the best arcade racer on PS3, nothing comes close to it.

Fifa 09. Soccer game at its best. Its the best 2 player game on PS3. I think many americans overlook this game, because soccer is not big in USA. but the game is supergood, has lots of stuff including manager mode.

Dead space. Do you like the Alien movies ? While its not really based on the alien movies, its very similar almost a rip off, but the game is so good its almost unbelivabel.

Disgaea 3. Its a strategic RPG with japanese style graphics. While the graphics are not the best( they look similar to PS2 graphics) the game play is awesome, you will soon forget about the graphics once you get sucked into the gameplay. Its without any doubt the best longterm value game on PS3 there is easely over 500 hours or more of gameplay in it.

A lot of great suggestions here. I would like to add:

Everybody's Golf: World Tour / Hots Shot Golf: Out of Bounds (name depends on your region).

Even if you're not a fan of Golf (I'm not), it's a fantastic game; easy to pick up but a surprising amount of depth. It has great online functionality... online lobbies, big and small golf competitions, in-game chat (if you want it). It may have been out a while now but it still receives updates (new characters, gameplay additions and courses).

I’d recommend a game I downloaded last night from the playstation network… Wipeout HD. Not sure if you are familiar with any of the previous Wipeout titles… but they are awesome fun. This is pretty similar, only with 1080p definition, and the best sound I’ve ever heard from any game (especially when the music distorts). You can also create your own custom playlist from your HDD.
You can buy it for about AUD$27 from the PS store… which is very good, considering most games are $100+ here.

I’ve added a little picture which I took from the games Photomode (similar to GT4’s, but more simplified). The game looks good 👍

I signed up for Gamefly last night, and have COD: World at War, and Devil May Cry 4. I have GTA4 on the 360, Eh I don't care for it so much. I get bored doing mission after mission, that and they took the planes out of it. I'm a big FS fan. I wish they'd come out with that for a console, but Microsoft just layed off it's FS team a month ago :(

Thanks for the suggestions, I've got Killzone 2 in my Que and a few others I want to try out before I buy.

jacoja09 I'll check out wipe out. I didn't realize that's what it was, I was thinking of Wipe Out 64 which is a Jet Ski racing game lol.
