Here's the first released rendering of the Type 1 USF1 Formula One car design, showing an aerodynamic and compact platform its creators hope will lead a U.S.-built car to its first F1 win in over four decades. The image is courtesy of Racecar Engineering magazine, who visited the USF1 "Skunk Works" in North Carolina. Beyond showing off the Cosworth CA2010 engine, the report indicates the new car will not be covered in patriotic flag livery as we initially feared. No word yet on Budweiser sponsorship, though.
Other details remain scarce but we're sure to hear more as its first testing dates approach.

I am adamant that this car might do good, maybe even get a win or two.

Obvious reference to the Lotus "Type" cars....first the Jim Clark pictures he keeps making a highlight of in their videos, now naming their car in a similar fashion..did Peter really want to revive the Lotus team?

Ah well, the front wing looks a bit blunt but I'll leave impressions till the first tests, but it seems a bit VJM02-ish.

Can we keep these posts to the 2010 new teams thread or a USF1 thread though? Don't need a new one everytime news comes up.

Well, otherwise we are going to end up with 10 different threads on 10 different news stories about USF1, as soon they are going to be launching their car, announcing drivers, announcing sponsors...do they all warrant a seperate thread when they can all be covered in one? They are all going to cause the same discussion in the end generally.
Especially as each one (such as this one) won't provoke much discussion about it, only really the driver line up will cause a decent discussion.

But thats just my opinion, I'm happy either way.

Woops, missed this line initially - I'd just like to recommend you keep that optimism in check, brand new team with a brand new car from scratch is rarely a recipe for instant success. Anderson's career history is a little vague too (in terms of what exactly he did, he worked for a lot of teams, but his skill isn't clear).

Nothing wrong with expecting them to be best of the new teams though, at this point its all guess work who will be on top. I'd wager on the two teams who have masses of experience rather than the two who look financially unstable though. Saying that, I did make a £10 bet with my brother that USF1 would score points this season thanks to the increase to 10 places, though I'm not sure its a safe bet, I'll be very happy to eat those words!

I think expecting wins and podiums is a little unrealistic though, I wouldn't expect a podium for at least two years.

It's nice how you can seemingly judge performance from a 3d render.

There is no way that car could win a race, it has proper mirrors!

:sly:

I don't know. That awesome floating front suspension seems much more aerodynamic than anything on the grid.

They don't even use solid lines...

And there are lines pointing out that will slash anyone's tires if they dare to try and pass.

Good to see that they're making some progress, now hopefully people will stop doubting them.

If by progress, you mean: we've designed a brand new car from the ground up... on paper, yes.

But if by progress, you mean: we've got a car!... no.

So you're adamant that a car that you have only seen a drawing of, that is produced by a team brand new to f1 (who are rumoured to have asked to skip the first 4 rounds of the championship), with a rookie driver (possibly two rookies) is capable of doing well and "maybe even get a win or two" despite not knowing what the other teams have come up with and not knowing how well the car is going to run?

Are you on drugs? I can understand your patriotism and I actually wish the team well, but how can you be adamant of a win this early? Maybe in a couple of seasons, but look at how disastrous some of the startup teams from the past have been. I'll give you an example. Admittedly the worst example, but that could happen to any of the new teams.

I admire your optimism, but I don't think a win will be on the cards for years. And despite brawn winning both championships in their first year, they weren't a startup team as they took over honda (who had poured a lot of money into the 09 car) who used to be BAR Honda, who used to be BAR, who used to be Tyrell.

So it's probably best not to be too ambitious.

I'm left wondering as to who the second driver will be. Obviously, someone from the US..but who? Speed? Allmendinger? An IRL driver?

Obviously? Rumours have pointed to either James Rossiter, Alex Wurz, Jacques Villenueve and so on.
I think US drivers are out the window at this point, its all about getting the money first (which should have been the plan from the start).

They are going to struggle to secure superlicenses for all these drivers though, the thinking at the moment is that Lopez will be given special dispension for his super license, but having 2 drivers need that may be pushing it.

For all we know, Andy Soucek could get the seat.

Obviously, someone with big bucks :)

Scott Speed has already said he isn't the least bit interested and no other US driver has a "Super License" so I doubt very much that Lopez's team mate will be from the US :guilty:

As for their competitiveness, I'd love to be optimistic but only a fool would bet against the domination of Ferrari & McLaren's driver line up and experience advantage :)

At this point I'll be happy if they make it to the grid at Bahrain. I'll be pulling for them and would love to see them finish races before accepting the fact that they will be scoring podiums :)

Not to mention the fact that Ross Brawn, in his management of two different teams, in coordination with a certain Herr Schumacher, has pushed two different teams to win a total of eight Constructor's trophies.

Brawn's move to Brawn GP is much like Phil Jackson's move to the Los Angeles Lakers. Only he got to name the team after himself.

Exactly. :

Speaking of a certain Herr Schumacher... Today is the big day (first day of testing)
