"Have you driven this car?"

This event will be run in a similar format to the last 512M event. I will open a lobby under my PSN ID: jjaisli approximately 5~10 minutes before the event starts and will first send race invites to those on my buddy list who have raced in the Old Timer series in the past. If anybody new would like to join, provided there's space in the lobby, you're more than welecome. Just send me a PSN message and I'll send you an invite in return.

QUALIFYING

- Race 1: We will have a two lap qualifying session. For the first lap, please start of immediately to avoid a penalty but then drive slowly to build a gap of a least 5 seconds to the car in front of you. The second time time across the start/finish line will be your one and only qualifying lap. Collisions will be off during qualifying.
- Race 2: Reverse grid from the finishing order of race one.
- Race 3: Qualifying as per race one.
- Race 4: Reverse grid from the finishing order of race three.

PLEASE make sure if you're new to this event that you read the qualifying procedures carefully!

Race No 1 : Nurburgring - 15 Laps - Dry

The first corner at this track is a nightmare. Although (in theory) the fastest qualifiers will start ahead, I'm asking EVERYBODY to show some restraint, particularly on the first lap.

Race No 2 : Paul Ricard - 9 Laps - Dry

I know I said I would never run a race at Paul Ricard. But here we are. I still don't feel any differently about it. :yuck: But the series is slowly winding down and I feel it's been under represented. So there it is. Enjoy. Or not. ;)

Race No 3 : Autoclub Speedway - 15 Laps - DRY

Now I'm truly asking for your indulgence. I've purposely avoided this track because it's a corner cutters heaven and as such, I thought there was no point. But I think I trust the group we run with to be fair. Run a few test laps and make sure they're white. That's how you should endeavor to run this race. In particular, if you run wide at turn 15, you can easily gain >2 seconds by corner cutting and I'm simply asking for people's restraint and good will. As such, it's a fun track and I thought we should at LEAST try to have one race here.

Race No 4 : Mugello Sports - 9 Laps - WET

Additional Details:

- I encourage everybody who wants to take part to carefully read THIS THREAD and take appropriate steps before the event. I'm really bothered by the fact that there are connectivity issues with this game. And while I feel very badly for those so afflicted, it's also an imposition to the others in the lobby. If for some reason you are consistently kicked out of the lobby, I will try to send a few duplicate invites. But if after a few brief tries you are unable to stay connected to the lobby, I will offer my apologies and start the event.

- I was quite surprised and pleased by the amount of restraint I saw from people during the 512M race. While there were the nearly inevitable pile ups a the stat of Monza and Silverstone, it sometimes happens when you try to fit 12~14 cars through a pinhole at the same time. The rest of the races, from my perspective were clean and fair. Let's have more of the same!

- Because Eutechnyx has still not patched the ride height bug, I'm asking for everybody to run DEFAULT setup ONLY for this event.

- I encourage the use of headsets, although to be realistic, we know headsets don't work very well when more than 4-5 people are using them at the same time. And if we really have a large lobby, I would like to ask everybody to turn off their headsets completely once the race gets started as it will save bandwidth. Once back in the lobby, feel free to use the mics again.

- I will invite everybody in the lobby to a text chat and will make important announcements in written form so everybody receives clear instructions.

- Between each event there will be a 5 minute break, longer if needed or requested. But I ask everybody to please stay in the lobby.

im in, building a Batman livery for this car...:) ... will we run livery's, because ther was a problem in the last event? no default on default livery i think, or what was it?

Whoa ... !

February 14th(th)!

Have you run this by the missus?!

That's the day of the year when I'm usually glad that I'm not north american

(although shops here are trying to "import" the concept of a "valentine day" to make a few extra-sales :irked: )

To answer both questions:

1. As a matter of fact, YES, I did run it past my wife. She's a very practical woman. And knowing (a) how crowded restaurants are and (b) how baby sitters take advantage of the day, we rarely celebrate Valentine's day ON Valentine's day. (Lucky for me in this case). My wife, being American (AND a Southern California girl) I did still check. But from my experience, though it may be gaining momentum, Valentine's Day lacks the same significance in other parts of the world and I don't expect too many people to have a problem with the date.

HOWEVER, I am aware that the Olympics are also starting that weekend and I'm not sure how this will effect people and their winter sports watching. We'll see how that goes. I'm actually more concerned about the NEXT and final event, which might just coincide with the closing ceremonies. Even I might have a problem with that one.

2. Default/Custom livery. Yes, we haven't bridged that one yet here in the forum. But Alan made it clear during the event, even sacrificing himself by leaving the race, that switching from your own livery to a standard livery and then BACK to your custom livery will not (always) change your settings back to default. I was not aware of this. And as such, I would ask that EVERYBODY run one of the pre-made liveries for this event.

Hi,

I will miss this one. Beside being Valentines Day (which, hopefully and for the sake of my wallet, my wife also does not take in high consideration - a small flower bouquet usually does the job), its also Carnival weekend and, as usual, I will make my way to the "sunny" ALGARVE for a 4 days weekend!

* Bump * Additional details added to the first post...

chilledant and bullie77--sorry you won't be joining us...

ARGH! Sorry guys, I'm just looking at what I posted and I did NOT mean to run Autoclub in the wet. I'm changing it back to dry as it's still more than a week away.

hi,
though i'm pretty new to scc, i would like to participate as well - as long if i fit into the lobby :)

So what's going on with you guys. The leaderboard is still almost completely bare for this car and these tracks. You guys better get some practice in.

i have not unlocked this car yet! i think it will be ok for online racing. but i wouldnt mind having a few laps before hand . any ideas how to unlock it .(which event)
many thanks :)

Since the event call for standard setup, you don't need to unlock the car. You can practice by opening a private online lobby and running by yourself. Good luck!

Tried the car last night for the first time. Since I have been trying other games lately, I went in very cold and at first it was a total disaster.

This car is very, very difficult. I would say, irrealistically difficult, when compared to the even older 512 BB from GT5P. But, then again ... it could be that the 512BB of GT5P is irrealisticaly easy ... I can't be sure.

I did the Nurburgring and the autoclub speedway tracks and managed to get laptimes 2 seconds slower than new_soul and 1 second slower than Jeff. "This doesn't sound very promising", or so I thought :indiff:

Then Jeff showed up online and we did one 5 laps race in all event tracks plus Riviera (picked by him) and Vallelunga (picked by me).

It was nice, I have confirmed my personal dislike for the Nurb GP track, and Jeff's personal dislike for Paul Ricard was also obvious. I managed (+/-) to keep up with his pace, but not with his consistency in the Nurb and Autospeed tracks, the others I think we were very evenly matched.

All in all it was fun to battle this car's tendency to screw up  and I guess the event next sunday will be very interesting. One advice to all, though ... you'll need practise or else you won't finish not even the first lap! ;)

Yeah, it's a very tricky car. Similarly, I drove it on Nurburgring for the first time last night and found it difficult. With most of the other cars in this game you can adapt to whether they tend to understeer or oversteer but this baby does both in equal measure!

It's crucial not to carry too much speed into a corner because she'll just keep ploughing on. I fear for plenty of first corner incidents!

Although I'm not participating in the event this time as I mentioned before, I'll likely join you guys for some races tonight on this.

i did try this car with AT in autoclub track, the car behaves more stabele compered to MT and gear changes are wery wel placed. in mugello sports it is diferent AT costs there up to 1sec.

"Smash and Crash" Kobayashi? Is this a...warning, new_soul? ;)

not necessary 'smash and crash' but with this car the limit is werry close.

Kobayashi's driving reminds me of Montoya, fun to wach the smoking tires wheel to wheel combat on the edge of flying of the track
som say he was lucky to finish his first 2 GP's i say he is a ninja with unbelievable car control :) im a definitive fan :D  👍 👍 👍
smoth drivin is not exactly my style, somtimes i just flore it out of an understearing corner in 1st gear and pul the e-brake to make the apex.

had som practice runs with Mario and PiotrB_23 today.. 👍

..spending moust of the time figuring out 'GHOSTBUSTERS' livery, locks imposibel right now... :dunce:
