That car looks so freakin chav-tastic it isn't even funny. The only thing that would make that picture complete is if some gumpy looking 17 year old kid wearing a sideways Yankee's hat, baggy jeans, and a huge ECKO hoodie. Plus it's a Nissan from the early 90's and has a stupid looking hood.

I'm going with seriously uncool.
 
I'm gonna give it a cool. I've heard how fun this car is and the specs look nice. As Joey says, looks a bit riced up but a different hood would do wonders.
 
I'm gonna say cool. Anything that's turbocharged and AWD is cool with me. And if you didn't know, the hood looks like that because it has a top-mount intercooler. I kinda like the way it looks.
 
It's chavtastic in a very baller way and it's damn quick with AWD and a turbo 4 in a light compact hatch. Sub-Zero.
 
I have driven, been in and worked on a GTi-R many times and while they're great I think in many cases people over rate the stock performance a little. It was a holomagation model which makes it pretty cool alone in my eyes (hence the odd looking top mountered intercooler design). The engine while a SR20DET as a the Silvia's (and 200sx) has been combed over and has a lot of changes including ITB's, dumping the direct ignition for a distributor and a stonger block which can also be dropped straight into a most 90's FWD Nissan's.

The pictured car above is a modified one with different wheels and a aftermarket front mount intercooler, not really the best/accurate picture to use.

I say cool.

(We don't have many hatch back 'chavs' here)

Trouble is that there are no stock ones around. I just scoured Autotrader and every single one has been given Halfords wheels, or better yet has had a simply ridiculous intercooler wedged into it.

I mean look at that. Look at that. There's even an appropriate numberplate. And they've helpfully stuck a tow hook on the front for when it's inevitably driven through a hedge.

And this morning, I was confused on how my phone worked.
 
It's known as Godzilla's little brother. It was the forgotten warrior amongst the STi's & Evo's of the early '90s. Everytime I see one I still get goosebumps. The only thing against it is all the 'chavs' pinching the bonnets to stick on their SSS Pulsars. :grumpy:

Sub Zero/Lord Kelvins ice box. It's homologation special, has rear-biased continuous AWD, so light and powerful that it offers even todays hot hatches a run for their money, and if you really squint your eyes, you can see where JCW cooper took it's shapes and ideas from ;)

Haha, yeah it isn't easy finding pics of a stock model,

That picture reminds me, the GTi-R was actually developed by Prince (the original car maker of the Skyline, who are still involved in Skyline projects within Nissan) and that "P" on the grill of GTi-R's is their logo, almost everyone assumes it meas "Pulsar".


Edit, found one (except maybe the lights in the bumper)

Simply cool. I am a Nissan fanboy, and I love the SR20DET, but weirdly I feel it's the SSS Pulsar that steals a little bit of its thunder even though its front-wheel-drive and non-turbocharged.

The SSS is quite a bit cheaper and because it has an SR20DE the turbo problem can be easily solved. Plus the GTi-R here has unfortunately caught the disease "chavilitis" from both the SSS and base model Skylines. Every single one I've seen has been riced and if it hasn't it's incredibly expensive.

The reason why its cool though is because it's a mini rally-weapon with ATTESA AWD. In fact they did make a (not very successful) rally version of it.
 
You know what? This actually looks like a cool car to me. If I was looking into buying a hatchback, I would probably look for one of these as opposed to some Ford Focus or something. It seems that the Ford Focus is what everyone turns to for a hatchback and honestly, it looks pretty tool-ish. This Pulsar on the other hand looks like a fun little car that you don't really see everyday, and I would gladly buy one... if I could...

The very car pictured in the first post kills quite a bit of coolness from the actual model. I would also pitch in more money to undo any "damage" the previous owner might have done.

Cool. Just for the silly performance potential and the rareness of the thing (yeah... rare everywhere except the UK, where apparently all of the limited run of GTiRs ended up).

The funny thing is... it is a rare car... only 5000 built... ever... but they're not expensive... in fact... far from it... so they're bought up by young guys who then do ridiculously bad things to them. Like tweak the engines for another 200-300 horses over stock. After which they do horrible things to them, like slap on big wheels, ridiculous intercoolers and subwoofers.

So it's a half-and-half... only edging into cool because I'm a Nissan fan and this was one of the best engines they (or anyone else, for that matter) ever built. If Nissan had gotten the bugs worked out of their sports program and persevered, AWD Sentras would probably be as common as Lancer Evolutions by now... and Nissan might have staved off bankruptcy for a few more years... but alas, alack... Nissan went from being spectacularly cool in the early nineties to being suck-ville in an inordinately short period of time...
 
Cool. Awesome car that could do great things after being fettled with by some boffins, made terribly uncool by some who think it needs a dose of Sex Spec, featuring garish hot pink sparkly paint, an electric green leather interior and 22" chrome wheels that even the queen would be happy to eat off. Disgusting.

Made cooler by my own imagination - matt black with some bronze TE37s and a basic ad functional interior with red Recaros and performace to match would be.......epic. :drool:
 
The Escort Cosworth, early Lancer Evos and Subaru Imprezas, Celica GT-Fours and especially the Delta Intergrale did the whole rally homologation thing better and much better on actual rally special stages.

Scrapes a Meh from me for actually being a Homologation special.

This. Except it's a Lonsdale hoody.

What coolness this car ever had - and let's face it, a nose like a Gillette razor isn't a good start - has been significantly eroded by that bonnet/hood appearing on every Barried car in this country. I can provide examples if you wish, but don't make me. The upshot is that, like Escort Cosworths and AC/Shelby Cobras, most Sunny/Pulsar GTi-Rs you see on the road aren't.

Aaaand under all that, it's a Nissan Sunny. Two words which instantly conjure the image of grey and your grandma.
 
The only negative thing I see is a slightly disappointing top speed, and being an early 90's turbo import, maybe a less then optimal powerband, but it's still gotta kick some ass, especially for it's day.
Looks good too, though I'd lose the boy-racer hood on it. looks like an early NFS hood option.
 
Rather over-shadowed in its early life by the Escort Cossie and Delta Integrale, yet still cool enough at the time.

Unfortunately its been ruined in later life by the car mod crew... so ultimately will have to be un-cool in todays World.
 
No, the Yankees hat is good. 49ers on occasion (yes, I know. And no, they don't know).

They are cool though, even if a touch slow stock compared to a WRX or something. But just the goofy nature of them and their size and what not makes them fun and cool! Even if they are Nissans and you can watch them rust :dopey:
