Having been inspired by Chilicoke, my new design is a work-in-progress.
More to follow. :)

you definitely do my friend :)
+1 :P

But so do I. At least you have a G25.

There are many members with good ideas on GTP whom can help you. If you should start a cockpit project thing, don't forget to show us your/ideas progress.

Well, I'm busy with Google Sketchup right now working on the cockpit design. It's heavily influenced by Chilicokes design (imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, after all!) and it's coming on okay. Right-hand drive though 'cos I'm a Brit! :)

As soon as I have something tangible to show, I'll post up the pictures. đź‘Ť

I've finished the plans in Google Sketchup and attached a few screenshots for you to take a look at.

Obviously, I've been inspired by Chilicoke's setup so all credit goes to him for coming up with such a cool design đź‘Ť

The material is 25mm square steel box-section and I'm hoping to start fabrication in a few days (a friend is kindly letting me use his garage/workshop).

I'll post some pictures up as fabrication continues... Comments welcome. :)

everybody says in the forum to angle the base to which the wheel should be mounted to. I'm going to angle mine to 23 Deg so the wheel is exactly perpendicular.

Yeah, I read a similar thing; I believe Chilicoke offset his at 10 degrees. To be honest, I find the angle of the G25 quite comfortable as it is :)

Before I finally weld everything I'll have a trial-fit and see what it's like...

Can you share your Sketchup file?

I will certainly share the file (and also the dimensions) once I've actually built the frame. I just want to make sure it all works out okay before I post the plans! đź‘Ť

Do you mean comfortable while mounted to a dining room chair? :)

The angle of the wheel that is most comfortable will depend on how laid out your setup is. You have the right idea with the trial-fit, just keep in mind that the lower your setup is the less you will want it to drive like a bus.

SketchUp looks good!

Just looked at your setup Wayside (nice work btw) and you have quite an angle on that wheel-mount. What angle did you decide on?

Got me thinkin'...

Some Sketchup plans for the monitor support frame. It's for a 42" LG Plasma. 400x400mm VESA hole spacings. Not that interesting I know but it's all part of the project! :)

The steel is almost all cut to length now. Looking to start putting it together on Tuesday. Pictures will follow.

Fabrication has started! đź‘Ť

Coming on nicely. Had some good progress today; same again tomorrow hopefully :)

Another update for you all! :) A good day again in the workshop; all the components for the rig are now tack-welded together. I also had the chance to 'trial fit' the seat, wheel, pedals etc.

The good news; everything fits where it should and all the measurements worked out okay! đź‘Ť Very comfortable. (Sorry about the photo quality; camera phone).

Looks really good, great job!

Just a note: From the pictures the pedals look like they may be a bit too high? Did you test them with a board across to simulate the final position of the floor board?

Sure did (I actually used thin aluminium chequer-plate) :) When I was putting it together I thought the mounting points looked high too. As it turns out, they're okay đź‘Ť

Okay, fabrication is complete and here are a few more photos. :)

And there we are. All welded and cleaned up and now with the powder coaters for a nice flat matt black finish. Should have it back from them in a week and then I'll get started adding the hardware etc.

Any comments welcome đź‘Ť

Ossum Ossum Ossum!..

Very good job young man - WIsh I had your skills and access to work area (ohh, right, and enough space @ home for a real seat installation (-: )
