In a few weeks time (around the TGS) the mysterious Room299 opens its doors. It is said on some Dutch sites that it is both a physical and virtual platform to get to know what Playstation3 has to offer. Our member Djie, representing GTHQ, will be present with camera and sound equipment, so expect some new GT5 footage in the next few days.

Next to Room299 there will be a travelling show, that also starts tomorrow at these locations and dates.

•2 september 2010: Ziggo, Utrecht (Vredenburg)
•3 t/m 5 september 2010: Wereld Havendagen, Rotterdam
•10 en 11 september 2010: Appelpop, Tiel

•4 en 5 september 2010 : Festival du Film d'Ostende, Ostende
•12 septembre 2010 : Balloon's Day Parade, Bruxelles
•16 t/m 20 september 2010 : Fêtes de Wallonie, Namur
•19 september 2010 : Sanicol Airshow, Hechtel

Two containers will be present, one showing Move and the other GT5 and 3D (among others).

Keep an eye on this Twitter account (it is in Dutch though, so remember that Google is your friend, even when lost in translation).

This isn't directly related to GT5, I guess. I hope it is and that we get to see some cool stuff in these shows.

Expect something like the UK Beta Rooms. GT5 will be there, among some other games and stuff like Move and 3D. The main press have their event right now, and the smaller game sites will have a go at it tomorrow. Then we will know more. :)

Edit>
GT5 is playable at the press event in Holland (copied from twitter).

A few days ago Kevin Butler tweeted this one-year-old commercial. Coincidence? :)

I'm not sure I get the significance :dunce: <- me

On a lighter note, this was in the comments for that video:

Thanks for reporting all this stuff :)

More pictures from the Dutch Room299 can be found here. It seems that the GT5 build they have in Room299 is based on the E3 build. :grumpy:

Guess I might go there :D

Be sure to check beforehand which of the two containers they have. The one that opened in Utrecht today is the one with Move, so no GT5. 👎

Can someone please explain to me why the cars still go over the curbs before the race starts? Do they follow the scripted racing line even before the start of the race? There's no reason for it. With the speed they're going they can easily go around on the tarmac. It's been bothering me for a while that they do that.

Great vids btw.

Call up Kaz and tell him, that the cars riding the curb at the start of the race has been bothering you for a long time!:sly: I'm sure he will fix it just for you!:sly:

I have to agree.. with all the focus in the license and gameplay on clean driving and following the line why does the AI feel the need to cut the corners? I mean i wouldent mind if it happend on the rumble strips cuz thats why they are there.

But on grass?

I'm sorry that you find a problem with what I say. Maybe you should put me on your ignore list and move on.

Agree. It leaves the impression that some things are being overlooked while they try to recreate perfect cars, tracks and physics.

Because then that would require a different 'script'. Before you pointed it out I didn't even notice such a thing is not supposed to happen and apparently it's still not bothering me. So why waste the effort when you can use it to do more stuff and improve other aspects of the game?

Why do they drive the curb... are you for real? Who cares if it's before the race starts, the driving line is still taken. The curbs are the fastest way around, and this is a running start not a standing start- ever watch GT racing? When they have a running start you'll see cars use the curbs on the installation lap, GT is accurate.

Different script? I assume it can't be hard to have a script for before the race and one for when the START flashes. Also can't see it taking more than a few minutes to implement.

Erm, this has nothing to do with installation laps nor do installation laps have anything to do with the start of a race. What GT does before the start pops up is simulating the end of a pace lap, at least that's what it feels like to me. Now I don't know what type of GT racing you watch, but when cars are following the pace car, they're usually going down the middle of the track and swerving to warm up the tires. Only a few cars go over the rumble strips and I can understand that but here you have cars going over the high curbs and every car does it.
Yes, this does bother me, and I'm still allowed to voice my opinion on something right? I mean this site isn't just for those who worship GT5 like there's no tomorrow is it? It looks strange to me that these cars stick to the scripted race line before the race doing 30mph as much as they do during it doing 130mph. If it bothers you that I have qualms with the game, please add me to your ignore list, you'll be doing us both a favor.

Denur asked me to drop a few lines of my experiences with the Room299 demo, so here we go:

During the presentation at the start of the event we saw a slick promotional video of Playstation with some GT5 footage which we already saw from the E3 trailer. The Room299 concept was focused on the presentation of the brand Playstation as more than only games. The move and various other services were presented which most of us are already familiar with: mubi, vidzone, comics etc..

Luckily de demo’s shown in Room299 were all about gaming. From various Move games to several 3D games like Motorstrom pacific Rift, Killzone and various PSN titles. Offcourse Gran Turismo 5 was present. A quick Q&A during the presentation learned that the demo was E3 code according to the SCEE product manager.

When we got all our equipment setup ( unfortunately there was a problem with the sound :( ) we noticed this Room299 version was way smaller then the E3 version, less circuits and cars to choose from. For the complete list checkout the video’s Denur posted above. Although the demo had a recent build date there were no extra features present. It was actually a bit buggy and not everything was translated, you can see the translation labels from the videos. The loading of der ring didn’t go always in a smooth way. Sometimes when the race started everything stayed green as there were no track objects loaded, this stayed for 10 to 30secs before everything went back to normal.

When starting a game from the main menu it was possible to adjust “difficulty” settings, like automatic gearbox, tires etc.. like we are all familiar with. The setting for gearbox wasn’t saved, so in the race menu this setting had to be adjusted back to manual. These are all small things that one can expect from an early build.

Unfortunately this build had a time limit so I tested a couple of cars and tracks. We at GTHQ previously have held a live event for our members with the SLS AMG demo. So I did some comparison with the Room299 build and the SLS AMG demo build. The SLS AMG build is showed the nurburgring from GT4 which was updated to HD graphics. The Room299 had the latest Nurburgring graphics and track objects. The SLS AMG in the Room 299 was more pleasant to drive, it was less snappy then the SLS AMG Demo build. This was very noticeable when hitting the high curbstones on the ring. It was a real struggle to keep the SLS AMG demo Mercedes on the right track, in the Room299 demo it was more easy as the video’s showed. This was noticeable on all tracks and cars, and double checked the car settings even in game with the “jogdial” on the GT wheel.
The sounds of the cars were ok, unfortunately the sound boxes on the demo rig were not from the best quality but there was a bit of rumble noticeable when driving the SLS AMG in low revs and from the Chevy.
A few strange things were seen in this demo. All the cars had the same horn sound. The AI made a mistake (or bugged) and totally missed a corner and spinned out into the gravel. I noticed this when I was uploading the video’s otherwise I could have tested the AI a bit more.
As seen from the menu’s in the video, only time trail and single race were available. I also have a video of the ring driving it backward for the 2minutes, if you want to see that one to, please let me know.
I also had a little talk with a product manager from SCEE and had nothing special to tell next to his marketing talks as we can expect from a product manager. He didn’t reveal any new information but I got a statement that indicates how big GT5 will be. “What we have seen at the GamesCom is only 5% of the total game”. So we can expect more features to be announced or will see it in game. On the E3 and GamesCom we only saw single player features, hopefully we will see at TGS more multiplayer (although Japan isn’t a very multiplayer/online country). I don’t expect the remaining 95% will be the multiplayer part :)
So far my report on the Room299 demo!

Woah, calm down. No one's worshipping GT here, just saying it's no big deal, and it is no big deal, since the cars are only in that state for a few seconds and it doesn't affect your actual race where you are in control, does it? No need to start exchanging insults and ignores here.
