Hosts starting to abuse power, sadly official online events needed.

Well I got ripped off several times while racing online by hosts who will do anything to ensure they win.

Examples:

- Changing power/weight limits to perfectly fit their favorite car, sometimes almost every race they change it, nearly impossible to keep up

- Reducing power out put to 300 HP and then jumping into a 300hp racecar right before the start to crush the field

- Setting the starting order to fastest start last, lets the practice session go on while people unwittingly set fast times (I spent (wasted) 15 minutes doing the warm up lap and hot lap at the ring to sit on pole but started last) then starts the race while hes the last person to join the race so he starts on pole.

This is only just the start, the abuse of power will get worst.

That's why we need official race events.

These will be rooms that appear 24/7 in the open lobby but do not dissappear when nobody is in them.

Something like MAX HP 500, MAX KG 1200 kgs, (and other variations) and the room automatically cycles between every track (or maybe just a few that suit the regulations and the cars taht meet them, for example a max 900 HP room with a min weight of 850 should have tracks that cater to lemans cars)with a fixed counter for practice/qualifying time until the race starts automatically on it's own.

Sadly these things need to be automated, you can't trust most people. Host should not be locked so if the host quits it keeps on going. If everyone quits the room is still there and reads:

OFFICIAL GT5 Event (500 hp/1200KGS)
0/16

I've lost complete faith in people to host rooms worthwhile, people still don't limit weight so half the field is racecars and half is road cars or I end up racing a 600kg race modded Lotus, people don't put "free run only" in the title so you enter a room waiting for the race to start and it never starts.

Why not open a private lounge and invite your friends, or join a friend's lounge? If you want to find fair racers, you can find plenty here on GTP. Why not join a regulated league/race here?

Having done quite a lot of random racing over the last week, I can agree with all your points.

I find I have the most fun running in the 'same car' races, that way you don't really get most of the problems and can have some good competitive races.

The HP limit stuff isn't fun because it usually suits one or two people who happen to have a car at that exact limit, with the right tyres and the right tune for that specific track. There isn't so much skill involved in it.

If the limit is 500hp, I'd quite like to see some M3's against SLS AMG's etc. Unfortunately what you normally get is a load of people in touring cars, which kind of ruins any hope of a competitive race.

I'm surprised that given the popularity of GTP, we haven't seen a lot more 'GTP' tagged rooms which stand for fair, good quality racing with proper restrictions and morons getting booted.

Think I'll start hosting my own single make races when I feel in the mood for some competitive races, although you do end up running out of arcade cars to variate between after a while.

Thanks for the warning Earth - sounds bad. I haven't ventured online yet, leastways not beyond my group of friends and events we run.

With luck Prologue's online Performance Points system will come back into play at some point, which should provide a raft of races for everyone to take part in.

Hope you find a home in the meantime.

That sucks... I have not had anyone been quite so lame to me but regardless I feel the host has an advantage no matter what... I was doing some NASCAR oval races and the host constantly dodged and avoided all crashes while I was getting hit by cars that jumped all over the place due to lag. This is pretty unfair as I would always be top 3 only to be taken out somewhere after lap 6 while the host could just glide along.

Then we switched to road cars and the host was constantly losing proving he wasn't just a good driver, but when crashes are common and take you out of a race he was winning every time since he could dodge almost everything.

I hosted a room last night with the title "no race cars" and ended up kicking 4 folk out with race cars... just another reason im gonna be trading all my GT games in next week.....

I usually host a clean, fair racing server online, yesterday, it had 16 people, and I made everyone use the same car. Now this makes the race very competitive!

It's very rare I'll allow anyone to use a car of which they own.

Imagine that, another thread where you say you are getting rid of GT. Thats fine, we get it, you don't like it. However, your reasons feel rather trivial. A bad license test and now because people didn't pay attention to your request online? People don't follow the rules, it happens. One make races are quite a lot of fun, maybe try those. Or give up and get rid of GT, you won't be hurting me in any way.

Because of whiners like OP, now I am forced to host one make race with recommended car or kart races. Personally I don't see how setting restrictions so I can play the car I wanted is consider doing something wrong.

I like racing my 167hp Caterham and I would create a room specifically called "Caterham Race", then people comes along who wants to race their maxed out Enzo; OP then what am I suppose to do?

OP in case you didn't realize. YOU TOO have the power to host you own game.

I saw a full room with the title "I kick everyone, don't join." lol

You don't title your room with what you want to tell people is going to be in it, you title it so that it encourages people to play the way you do. Rather than "no race cars" try "street car race." Make it so people want to play like that. :)

Naturally, there will always be idiots who join just to mess stuff up and don't obey rules. It happens in every online game. That's what the kick button is for.

As for hosts abusing power, be glad it's not ranked or anything. If any of you ever play Far Cry 2 you'd know that having full host abilities and only player-hosted matches for ranked is a terrible, terrible idea.

Two possible solutions

1, Make your own room and set the restrictions as you please.
2, Buy a selection of cars that you have tuned and modded to suit a range of races/restriction levels.

I spent roughly 6 hours online yesterday but maybe 2 of that was actually racing while the other 4 was spent searching for a decent race. In those 2 hours of actual racing almost always someone had a car that took the best advantage of the restrictions to dominate. I was nearly impossible to find a race with equal cars because most hosts have no clue how to set restrictions to make things equal. Why are people so desperate to crush the field when the only prize is what, a puny 10k credits and 2k XP?

I had finally found a nice room where my Ford GT, a GTR, and a Tommy Kaira ZZII were mixing it up in nice equal races until a guy in a race modded Lotus came in and crushed us by 5+ seconds because there was no weight limit just a 650 HP power limit.

In another race I was in a dream battle with a GTR and F430 in my GT but someone in a DTM car was destroying us all up front because again, no weight restrictions.

Unique cars like the Caterham should be restricted to one make races. Would you not agree that most cars weight over 1200 kgs? How many cars weigh what, 4-600 kgs like the Caterham or some Lotuses?

If people come into a room of yours thats called Caterham racing and they want to race an Enzo that's their fault. They don't race. I dont see the problem? What are you suppose to do? Nothing. They don't race. You wait for guys with Caterhams. I thnk you misunderstood my original post.

Trust me, official events wont work, everyone wants something different and PD wont be able to saisfy anyone either.
Ive played Forza 2 and Forza 3, F2 had same system as GT5 and Forza 3 has the official events.

I played Forza 2 online for over 100 hours, Forza 3 about 5 hours.
The thing was in Forza 2 you could set the assists and car Class rather than the BHP which made it much more interesting, youd get super handling cars, mid range cars or Rocket cars (though these could be negated with TC disabled).

Forza 3 you find theres about 1000 people online after a couple of months after release, never even made it into the top 10 xbox leaderboards, unlike Forza 2.
People have resulted to making groups online and racing privately than go into crappy hoppers with BS settings.

Get into a good public lobby, or set one up yourself, have a good Comment that allows you to be recognised fast, and people will catch on if its a good lobby, this is what happened with me and Forza 2.
Set up the settings fair and have only ABS enabled to attract the pros rather than the crashers.

Most importantly, always allow 10-15mins for Quali session and change the track after every race to keep it fresh. People leave due to boredom if you keep running the same track.

End result, public custom lobbies are best for Racing games because there are too many options for official servers to keep up, unlike COD or other FPS games where its guns and maps only.

This is why you learn to tune the cars you have.

I change the HP restrictions constantly when I host a room. I'll sometimes have TCS on, and sometimes I'll make it so nobody can use it. Big deal. I don't do it to benefit anyone, not even myself. It makes things more interesting.

I'm talking about coming into a room and the restrictions are set to something bizarre like 723 HP and 1184 weight, likely 1 kg less and 1 HP more then what their car is.

Although the settings that hosts seem to tend to use online in my opinion are not very good, why not just make your own public room with legitimate restrictions so things are fair. I tried making a few rooms just to see the feature and people joined real quick, filled one up in a few minutes while I was looking through menus.

As opposed to having official gt5 servers with set restrictions or something of that nature which may incur costs, these costs would be avoidable if they introduced rule sets and rule set filters which isn't as large of a task. This way you could filter by certain restrictions that gt5 thinks up and people host servers that have those restrictions locked, and users could search for what they want, or join the rooms as they currently are (free run) or whatever the host wants. Everyone wins.

Just my 2 cents.

i was accused of that once. i was in my 600hp-1200kilo viper, everything else was maxed out with a wing. the room was set to 750hp and 950kilos with R-hard tires. and i kept winning. starting from last. most of the other players were using useless cars with less than 500hp with Sport-Softs. everybody started bitching i had the room set-up so only i could win. well chances are you cant win with 400hp in 750hp room.
if you add FULL damage, penalties and restrict all the aids except ABS you can weed out the "clowns" and have serious races.

Without reading all the posts I would just say that if you don't like the way others host the rooms then host a room yourself. That is the beauty of the open system vs a offical hopper system like in Forza where the players have little to no control over the races.

I'm surprised that given the popularity of GTP, we haven't seen a lot more 'GTP' tagged rooms which stand for fair, good quality racing with proper restrictions and morons getting booted.

This surprised me too

Look at the GT5 online subforum, its practically deserted compared to what I'd thought it be. People are going nuts about the season events. Please. Those are glorified time trials with bots on the track that are nothing more then moving roadblocks

Is racing mindless bots really better then racing living breathing people? Despite all the mass cheating and online morons I have had 1000x more fun in 1 week of online racing then the entire A and B-spec modes combined

On top of that I have ran into very few GTP tagged drivers in online races. Where is everyone? I remember with GT5P we had races where 8 of 10 guys were GTP. But with GT5 the most I've seen in one race is 3?

Chopes your right about the filter. That would make finding decent rooms much faster and easier.

^ I don't run my gtp tag anymore due to the game saves. Don't feel i need to have a separate account to race online.

I'm sure some of the options could change to make things more equal. But it's up to you to find the right people to drive against.

While complaints are sometimes valid, it's better to search out good quality racers. I found one such guy and we race JGTC 500 cars constantly, next week we'll be using DTM cars. All race cars are 500 hp or less, JGTC cars on Soft tires, the host actually has JGTC cars to trade with those who do not have those cars. I prefer to run my own car as I hate using the bog standard car, not being able to change the gear ratios to match the course is a dumb idea PD, fix it.

Complaining about things that you can remedy yourself, go buy more cars and stop over tuning everything. Seems like a lot of people tend to max out Hp in every car they have, seriously why would you need to do such a thing? I for one avoid any upgrade that cannot be removed, such as the engine modding like larger ports and such, those are permanent. Keep it civil that way your car can at least fit into many different race qualifications. Would people please stop over powering these race cars, it's like a free for all, who can go the fastest. It's hilarious to see, 895hp and less, wow, can't wait to see what that race turns into. I love going fast but I like having control as well and people tend to not be so good with braking as they are with stomping on the throttle.

When you lose to bots you can blame the game, when you lose to live people you just have to live with the fact that you are not as good as think you are.

That' s the problem with all online games, a lot of people have a hard time believing they are not Jesus with a controller.

One thing PD really needs to do is to get rid of the power and weight regulations and replace it with a power to weight ratio range. That alone would solve a lot of issues.

The shuffle mode seems pretty cool, mixes the races up

I really like shuffle however it needs fixing. It always selects the same low powered cars. It would be nice if it picked a selection of cars at random sections of the performance scale.

It looks like I'm stuck with hosting a room myself though I don't want the responsibility.

I don't want official events to take over I would like to see them side by side with custom rooms. They should leave the option open.

I have an armada of cars, ranging from 200 - 900 Hp in increments of 25 HP with every type of tire ready to take on any event they throw at me.

The problem is when I enter lets say a 500 HP Ferrari F40 into a 500 HP race I find half the field is Super GT cars and the other half is race modded cars well under 1200 kgs. I get destroyed though my car matches the HP limit perfectly.

Again, I would like like to see official online events. Maybe a total of 3, rated by 3 difficulty levels, easy, medium, and hard.

Hard = all AIDs off ,light damage, 30 mile races
Medium = some AIDs off ,20 mile races
Easy = all AIDs on if you want ,10 mile races

Basically an event could be MAX 600 HP, min 1200 kgs, no AWD, runs 2 races at a specific track then rotates to a new one, 5 total tracks in the rotation. New HP/weight/track combinations every week.

Tires are locked and depend on the type of cars that are intended to be used. Sports tires for raod cars racing tires for racing cars.

I hate wasting time looking for an event.

can you actually kick people out of a server, because whenever i win by a wide margin, in a fair way, i always get disconnected

I still have fun when the "TRYHARDS" show up but it is quite annoying.

There needs to be a class restriction option for the host to lock out touring cars and race cars, including RM'ed cars.

If not there's always boost, it could be a good answer to keeping variety and competition lively, even if people shun it as noob-y. If it keeps things on a level playing field, for the most part, its a worthy sacrifice. I don't take joy in beating people by 30 seconds. It's more fun when its neck and neck, and its not like boost stays on when the cars are close to eachother. Bad racers will still lose.

The irony of it all is people are going to use the best car for their class. To be quite honest I've seen rooms that are "Street Car" only. These are great if you want to race street cars. However I've met people that set the rules to their advantage, low power and weight for RM/Race cars. In these kinds of situations all you can do is leave or beat them at their own game. If you want those types of races then start your own lobby with set limits that make race cars unable to race.
