Hosts starting to abuse power, sadly official online events needed.

@ Earth, you can always create a room geared to your specific type of racing. Seriously this is online, where you find more idiots than you can shake a stick at, it's part of the territory. I was lucky enough to come across a room with a pretty cool host who doesn't cheat to win and daily runs JGTC 500 room.

As I said you can create pretty much any kind you want, the fault isn't with other people. You have no control over them, wished PD would give us a blacklist that way we can avoid idiots who run crap rooms. Until then, why don't you use GTP to find other good racers to race against, seriously you have tools right in front of you yet you refuse to use them.

The irony of it all is people are going to use the best car for their class. To be quite honest I've seen rooms that are "Street Car" only. These are great if you want to race street cars. However I've met people that set the rules to their advantage, low power and weight for RM/Race cars. In these kinds of situations all you can do is leave or beat them at their own game. If you want those types of races then start your own lobby with set limits that make race cars unable to race.

The problem is I've just wasted 5 minutes joining a room to see its loaded with RM/Race cars. With GT5 online I waste alot of time joining and exiting useless rooms. 95% of the rooms have poor description int he text.

With official events I'll know what I'm getting into

NASCAR 2003 online had a great combination of official races and privately hosted races.

The official races were set on a 3 track loop and the race would automatically start every 10 minutes with or without anybody in the server. If nobody was in the race after 1 minute it would revert back to the 10 minute countdown. The race length was set in stone so was the rules on damage etc. you knew what youw ere getting into.

I like pick up races, even if that means running into alot of bad drivers. I don't want to hunt down GTP drivers every time I want to race. I'm tired of crackpot hosts who have no idea what they're doing. I want race events that force everyone to be in the sameball park performance wise with the cars. I don't wan tto spend 15+ minutes looking for the "perfect" room. I don't want the responsibility of hosting my own room every time I want to race. What if people aren't interested in my specifics? I created a room and waited 30 minutes and only 2 guys joined.

Look at the GT5 Online sub forum. It's a ghost town. I thought people would be setting up events every evening, but no.

When you lose to bots you can blame the game, when you lose to live people you just have to live with the fact that you are not as good as think you are.

That' s the problem with all online games, a lot of people have a hard time believing they are not Jesus with a controller.

This is true, but... there's also a depressing number of online gamers who'll exploit and hack any loophole possible, so I empathise with the frustration. Best to just find people who play with honour or make your own room. As I'm without internet at the moment, I can't tell, but isn't it possible to make private rooms? If so, why don't you try inventing some restrictions and advertise it here on the forum.

That's just a part of the online game, not sure if PD is going to include public lobbies, the might, but you will still get the same type of idiots who do nonsense anyway. As I said you can ally yourself with individuals you can expect good races from, I'm online right at this moment and I'm just spamming races to move days along to see if I can get my M3-GTR race car. I usually play GT500 races online with about 5-8 people in one room. GTP_monoha is on my friends list and he's online as well, but he is doing carting. Right now it's the holidays so many people aren't going to be online to race, come January there should be lots more who have time to spare.

Many of my regular cars aren't set up up to race online which is why I stick to the GT500 for online, everything else is just a crap shoot. As I finish up the main game I will have more tuned cars to support a wealth of races, I hate max HP races as this seems to be the order of the day. Right now hosting is the only way to go, and you may need to friend some good racers, seriously it's no different than it was in FM3 you had to look for good people to ally yourself with in order to have great races.

Just add people as friends you've had good races with and then invite them to race you in your lounge, problem solved ;)

For anyone who wants a few races. I started a lobby called clean or kick, right now.

We race same cars, and change tracks once in a while, feel free to join if u are clean with no assist

just join online room

CLEAN OR KICK

Why are people against the official races. I mean I think what the OP wants is official races in addition to what we have now. So if you like player hosted rooms, you get that, and if you like something where no one is in control, you get that. I agree with the OP, for the most part, the online is a joke. I don't play with friends often, and I like to go play with random people.

I've played other games, and personally I never prefer user hosted because for 1, they tend to have weaker connections, and for 2, you basically give too much control to the host.

That's why I have lots of extra parts on hand for my favourite cars. When the host thinks he's being slick by changing options, I simply reconfigure my car and beat him again until he quits.

Because of whiners like OP, now I am forced to host one make race with recommended car or kart races. Personally I don't see how setting restrictions so I can play the car I wanted is consider doing something wrong.

I like racing my 167hp Caterham and I would create a room specifically called "Caterham Race", then people comes along who wants to race their maxed out Enzo; OP then what am I suppose to do?

OP in case you didn't realize. YOU TOO have the power to host you own game.

chill with the namecalling, dude! it's christmas eve! lighten up or you will find some coal in your stocking tomorrow.

Yeah, this was a nice setup. I'd love to see some official races across a variety of classes.

Being able to set Power/Weight ratio would be a HUGE step towards leveling the rooms we make ourselves though. I could usually not care less what I'm racing against as long as our P/W is relatively similar.

Maybe they will add official races, sometime in the future. I'm willing to bet someone will gripe about that too. There seems to be no end to gripes from people. They said a community, as in the players make up the community and set up races and the like. Most likely they will probably introduce public hopper like the one in FM3, for now the User generated stuff is better than none.

You complain too much you know that, check your post like a list of complaints. I've played in user rooms and public rooms in games and the user room are usually more stable since it's network run and won't over load the users connection, but I have played in server side hosted connections and have gotten all sorts of wonky things happening. It goes both ways, but GT5 user servers can be quite stable FYI. Sounds like you like complaining just for the sake of complaining. What's the point of having a friends list and not even using it to list friends? Come out of your anti-social bubble and try to enjoy something. Unless you like being anonymous so you can be one of those people who hop from room to room driving uncouth like? not saying you are, but your whole thing about not playing with friends sounds like bogus crap to me.

Well, if you don't like my complaining, that is fine. But I really don't play with online friends. Most of my friends play shooting games.

Sadly, it's not confined to GT5, and even on this night before the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus, these facts stand out.

(Online gaming = Cheese Factory. Always has, always will)

...you can't trust most people.

...I've lost complete faith in people...

For every vulnerability there will be exploiters. OP and others just need to find like-minded guys and not hate that PD can't control society and its idiots.

Failing that, do lobby rules allow setting the restrictions by Power:Weight ratio? If not, maybe that's something to be added, because then the guy with the Lotus can enter, but has 1/2 the hp of the F430 next to him. Depending on tracks, etc. some of those races can actually be pretty fun. At a minimum, HP or Weight and P:W would define the classes pretty well. The only major issues after that would be race car or not and tire type.

edit-after playing online for hours the past couple days, OP is overreacting a LOT. It's pretty easy to get a car you like within a few HP of the host even if they are trying to jerk you around. If they are doing it on purpose, you do of course have the option to quit too.
