It is worth getting GT4 now?

My current situation is that Im at university and dont have access to my 50" 1080p plasma, G27 or "large" room to enjoy any of it in. I tend to play on my PS3 at home on the weekends but dread dragging it to school to play on my tiny 22" TV.

Does getting GT4 make any sense at all? I could definitely see myself playing it at school during the week but will going between the two make me worse at GT5 - as I've become quite proficient with the G27 and look forward to the WRS. It is my understanding that GT4 is "faster" with a controller so not having my wheel is not the issue.

Thanks in advance!

BTW: I have never taken a GT game seriously up until GT5. I played GT3 for ~3 hours and stopped. (too young to appreciate it) so I have never played GT4.

Will your PS3 play PS2 games if so "Must buy". Are you taking your PS3 to school or a PS2. Either one GT4 you will enjoy Not sure where your at but you should fing GT4 "New" at stores for $10-15 in the USA.

No my ps3 is not backwards compatible. If I get gt4 I will play ps2 during the week and ps3 on the weekends. Moving my ps3 is too much of a hassle.

I would still say buy it. Then you'll be taking your PS2 home so you can play GT4. I played it for the past 3 years waiting on GT5 I've heard that it looks better on a PS2 than a PS3 I wouldn't know as I only have a "Fatboy" PS3.

Yeah uber-cheap isn't even the word to describe how easy it is to pick up a copy today. I found 8 in my local gamestop with minor scratches on them in just a CD paper sleeve for 2.99. I even jumped the gun and bought it considering that I won't even play it at all lol.

Honestly no. It will piss you off. Everything that is in GT4, you'd expect in GT5 as far as options and tracks. You will then see alot of the complaints we have with it. But its your money, I'd tote my ps3 with GT5 instead of downgrading to a ps2 to play GT4.

I have to disagree. I still play it, and would advise anyone to play it. Fine, the day night simulation isn't there, nor the weather, but, it is only a game, and there is still a lot of fun to be had. I am still playing it. Theres a lot wrong with 5 that annoys me. So by playing 4 you have a better playing time, plus, you can also grab a copy of 3, 2, 1, and starting the series from the beginning.

Buy it, there's no question IMO. It won't make you 'worse' at GT5; your brain will adjust easily between the two, especially if you're using the DS2. There are several areas where it's far superior to GT5 in its current form. It's a fraction of the cost of your PS3 setup, so even if you hate it just give it to one of your poor uni mates.

It will certainly improve your driving skills and there are thousands of hours to be had out of the game; I can think of no reason why you wouldn't buy it.

IMO the only place GT5 is better than GT4 is in the graphics, and somewhat in the physics.

However if you play in 1080i, (in game selectable) its pretty good.
Actually remarkable for a PS2 game.

Otherwise GT4 is ten times or more the game GT5 is.
Likely your only problem after playing GT4 is wondering what the h*** happened to GT5.

I'm glad to hear I'm not missing much more than improved graphics by not having a PS3 & GT5. That seems to be the direction gaming has been going for years, sacrificing good solid game-play development, for really impressive graphics. There are still games from the mid-late 80's that I play, based on the game-play factor (certainly not the graphics). And then there is the latest trend in gaming, those god-awful social Zynga games, not one of them is what I consider a good game.

Sorry I strayed off of topic with my rant.
Yes -buy GT4- one of the best driving games ever in playability and realism. It does have good graphics, but really how good do the graphics have to be for zipping around a track at 200 mph, as if you have time to look around and sight-see.

Well I picked it up today for $4 and a new slim for $100. I had $200 to gamestop so why not right....?

Already I can tell its going to be a blast; however, I forgot to get a memory card lol. It's ok because tomorrow I'm back hom w/ my PS3 and G27.

The graphics look great - and the fact that I can run them in 1080i on my TV is even better.

I really look forward to winding down from my mech. engineering classes with this at night!

And to add to opelgt1969's comment, wait till you get to the two 24-hr endurances (Nurburgring, and Circuit de la Sarthe), and also the 15-race Formula GT World Championship :ill:. Good luck! :)

Looking forward to it even if it takes me a LONNNGGG time. I just need to get used to using square and x for brake. When I use a DS3 Im a trigger guy.

i actually just bought a ps2 from gamestop for $30 and i got GT4 for $8 on half.com. looking forward to checking it out. (I played GT1, GT2 and GT3 but by the time GT4 came out i had sold my old ps2).

I played the HELL out of GT4 a few years ago, loved the game.

There are ALOT of events on GT4. Theres so many events on GT4 you wonder if youll ever get close to the end.

I got my PS2 out for the first time in years and just fired up GT4 about a half hour ago while Bob was making me some money on GT5.. I did a couple races for the hell of it and it drives pretty damn good considering it is a PS2 game. Im playing the game on my 42 Vizio with everything except 3D (who cares about 3D, really?) The graphics are a bit blurry in the distance during races but its still awesome. Im amazed how good they are coming out of a PS2.

Then theres GT5

I got 4 enduros left and some Bspec and all of GT5 will be complete. I never realised how much GT5 lacked in events until now.

Go get GT4 man. Seriously. After i beat the rest of GT5 i am definitely going back to GT4 to keep going with it. You WONT regret it.

Edit--- Just read the rest of the posts.. Enjoy the game. Lots of gameplay to be had!

GT 4 have better gamaplay, and are much bigger as a game. When I
stopped playing it my driver was 25 year old (one race.one day).
Just loveing it. Still the best releast in racing.

Gran Turismo 5 is a major let-down IMO. The A-Spec mode is really short and the races aren't challenging, at all. The track selection isn't so good, it's missed out alot of tracks from GT4. GT4 had me playing for years and I still hadn't finished it, I've been playing GT5 for 3 months and it's almost finished. It is a good game however, but not as brilliant as GT4. But hey, it was made from scratch so I'm sure Gran Turismo 6 will be better.

I'd do anything to get my Playstation 2 back :guilty:

Im thinking of playing gt4 again, gt5 disapointed me.. honestly.. but i was gt4 playing whit pad.. now i got g25.. do some of you know, is there a big difference in physics of the cars betwen this 2 editions..?

I've started GT4 so many times. And I've never gotten around to finishing it. I just recently started it again and already I'm almost done a year. I just bought the logitech official wheel for GT5 and it's awesome! It's a whole new game! Thinking about starting online races with a PC, heard wheel works great! Great game!

^ Yea I've never truely finished GT4. I have multiple games going, though, that's my excuse. :) If I could put all these games together into one game, it would be finished, if that makes any sense, but I've never had just one game with everything absolutely done.

Just move the controls in the settings, I don't believe the buttons are analog though

Of course it is still necessary to buy GT4. GT4 is simply a brilliant game.

And I will give you some good reasons for you to buy it. And maybe someone to not buy it.

If you play the GT to get 100% complete, it is GT4 is very large game.👍
There are plenty of races to be run. But manufacturer races you also need to run some boring/slow and useless cars. But this also means that you will find some funny cars you never would bought and run, if you did not have.

The map in the GT mode is pretty big. Lots of different choices. It is not just one car shop, but one store for the different countries. UCD is divided in three shops, 80's (and older), early 90's and late 90's. This may make you feel it is a bit messy, complicated to see through UCD.

Many different places to find the races.

Is not designed for you to play online, so instead, the game is made so that you get a lot of fun on your own

If you start to play GT4, you will find lots of things that could have be done differently in GT5, and better. You will also see what's missing in GT5

GT4 has a diary in your garage, that allowing you can see where you won a special car. What did thr last hour you playd GT4. When you bought a car. And other significant things you have done

I do not mean to speak badly about GT5(which is also a brilliant game), but I think the GT4 is a better game one GT5. Beacause there is more to do in GT4, which makes you feel that you are constantly doing something new. And GT4 has several small features that make the game more complete

Simply put, GT4 just FEELS nicer. Pick it up at GameStop used for ~$10 and you will immediately start to feel the "magic" of it. It's just a nicer game to play.

If you don't like it, go back and return it. Nothing lost :D.

What i would do is this, GT4 and pick up the old version of gameshark, you can have all cars, all mods and max Cr.

It would be fun to just have some cars to throw around, instead of having to grind like nuts.

Unless that's what you are into.
