1969 was the end of an historic decade of racing at the Le Mans 24 Hours. It marked the final year of the running start, a tradition that was to be abandoned from the 70’s for safety reasons. It was also the 4th straight win of the legendary Ford GT40, fighting off competition from Ferrari, Alfa, and many others. Here is an event to commemorate the historic’s of Le Mans and indeed, the whole of the classic car fraternity.

Circuit: Circuit De La Sarthe 2005 No Chicanes

Race Length: 24 Laps (Approximately 90 minutes)

Grip Reduction: Realistic

Damage: Realistic

When: TBC May / June, around 7pm BST session start.

C1: For Unmodified High-Performance Racing Cars Up to 1969

Chapparal 2D Race Car ‘67

Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (C2) Race Car #614 ‘63

Ferrari 330 P4 Race Car ‘67

Ford GT40 Race Car ‘69

Ford Mk.IV ‘67

Jaguar XJ13 Race Car ‘66

C2: For Unmodified Road And Racing Cars from 425 to 525pp up to 1969

(Generally ranging from Ginetta G4, Alfa Romeo Giula Zagato up to Lamborghini Miura and Shelby Cobra)

Chevrolet Camaro Z28 RM is allowed but only in original form (Equip RM but DO NOT make any other tuning changes afterwards)

No Tuners are allowed, so the Buick Special, Art Morrison Corvette ’60 and similar cars are ineligible.

The Fully Customisable Transmission is allowed.

Car’s must remain unmodified from stock – no tuning shop changes are allowed

GT Auto services are allowed (chassis rebuild, oil change, engine rebuild)

Tyres are restricted to Racing Hard’s.

Driving aids are restricted. Only TCS and ABS are allowed as optional aids.

Qualifying will open from when the room opens, and will last for 45 minutes. Please be aware if you set a time, and then leave the pits to go to the garage or another screen, GT5 wipes your time, so remain in your pit box. If your connection fails and you drop out of the room during this time, please return to the room and stay in your garage, as you will be put to the back of the field.

There will be a 15 minute interval between the end of qualifying and the race. The race will start via an automatic countdown. All drivers must remain in their pit box.

The race will be a standing start.

All competing drivers are expected to race in a clean fashion.

With two classes of car their are obvious speed differentials between say, a Ferrari 330 P4 (200mph) and an Alfa Romeo Giula Zagato (140mph). In this case drivers are encouraged to use their OSD mini maps, and mirrors. If you have noticed a faster car coming up quickly, the slower driver is expected to hold their line in order to allow the faster driver to pass. Basically, the slower driver is expected to hold their line. However, anyone in a damaged car (that say is struggling to do 70mph) is also expected to move off line out of harm’s way so they do not cause problems. Basically, use common sense.

I might consider doing this eventually. Might do it in C2 with the Giulia TZ2 but don't put me down for it yet. I'll see when the date gets revealed then you can put me down if I can fit in with it. ;)

I might go in C2 with a Giulia, I'm undecided. EIther that or a GT40 for pure nostalgia sake.

If i can make it i will race a Jaguar XJ13 Race Car ‘66.

Also hope it won't be at the same time as the LMP championship race (Saturday 1900GMT).

I want to be in the C1 with either Jag XJ13 or Chaparral 2D if the time fits me.

It is a single 24 lap race, but from the sounds of it it may be at the same time as th LMP race, or at least the start will clash.
 
C-ZETA, akmuq and Mitch are also in the LMP series. I hope they will remember, not just leave the series' race they signed up for first, lol ;)

I'm sure one race wont hurt if the times do end up clashing...
 
It's only a 6 race series Mulsanne, so unfortunately I'm letting the LMP's take priority. Sometime in the afternoon on a Saturday would suit me anyways.👍
 
I'd like to take part in this but it really depends on the time as i've got exams until mid june. Put me down for C2 anyway though.
 
No problems about time. I'm aiming for mid-may to early june period for the race, so I should be able to be flexable.
 
Afternoon's i'm usually out. Also evening time is around afternoon for the usa as well.
 
I'm in too if i can avoid missing the LMP race , which would be great cause all those guys are good clean drivers. C1 with another 69 GT40. My PSN is GTP_mike46an2
 
Has anyone got a schedule for the LMP Race? Because then I could plan things a little more...

And C1 appears very popular.... Remember that in C2 ANY UNMODIFIED car from 425 to 525pp can enter.
 
Every Saturday, 1900 GMT until approx 2030 or 2100, depends on connection issues, people joining late etc.

:grumpy: Thats exactly when I host all my events.... from 1900GMT until about 2115. The schedule idea was going to use would be what I have used for my other series:

Room Open 1850
Qualifying Session Start 1905
Race Start 2000
End (with this event) 2200


By the way, the first post is being updated as well. All driver aids off except for TCS (optional) and ABS (optional)

I've also had a hard time joining other series too because all races are on Saturdays... maybe there should've been a voting for which day it should be. Idk, it could be a solution...

And btw, I tried out (offline, unfortunately) the Jag and the Chap 2D. Do you own both cars? The Chaparral is much faster. And I don't think it's the chassis reinforcement (or whatever it's called) from the tuning shop that makes it 5 secs faster.

It also makes my Chap illegal for race, so I guess I should use another car if we are able to find another race time.

Perhaps it should be restricted somehow. But it's very difficult to make sure that nobody uses it.

I just did a 3:53.758 in my GT40. I o not own the Chap. It's the only one of the C1's I do not own.

This looks good, I'm up for it.

I'd like to go C1 with the XJ13, but since C2 is so underpopulated I might go for that depending on what I can find lying around in my garage/what I feel like driving.
 
Remember guys this is a serious event... I don't want anyone to enter and quit on Lap 2 whining because they got spun and are being lapped already. If you enter... you're in for the long haul.

I'm looking at the ol' Ferrari 330 P4 but I'm scared of scratching it...

Just did a 3:47.883... 5 seconds quicker than Ford GT and I made a couple mistakes.

I've looked through my garage and found that I lack 60s cars in the C2 PP range, so I'll be going with C1 in the XJ13.
 
Love the Xj13... may pick that myself.

How about at some point before we have our own Le Mans Classic Test Session? Maybe the friday before the race?
