Which one do you think is better as I am looking at investing in one? 👍

Having only played a demo of 1, I'd say get unleashed. It's a very good game, has it's flaws and bugs, but there is more content, night racing and other general improvement to the series. Both should be cheap enough though.

Helmet cam is interesting, some love it some hate it, but try it and make your own mind up.

I have both for the PS3, and I'd say get Shift 2... Both are good games, but the feel of Unleashed is way better. Once you start it's addictive, and can be intense. Be prepared to look for tuning setups, as they are basically required to get the best out of the game. Stick with this site, there are some great tunes here on GTP. Give it a go!

The original Shift should be very cheap now so my vote goes to both.

Parker

I have both too, and mainly play Shift2 now, but only from habit.

The extra tracks and night-racing are big bonuses on 2, but I can enjoy either game.

Considering the work and investment that goes into these games, the cost is peanuts anyway.

If u can find the special/limited edition of shift 1 for a cheap price its a great game with some nice lil DLC included. They are both very similar but I have to admit i think i prefer the first shift. mainly because teh vinyl editor is a lot better than unleashed and Shift2 has got a few bugs. I do play shift 2 more tho hahah and teh autolog is creating some pretty intense friendly rivalries

I have both, but I don't even remember last time I played shift 1. Shift 2 with all its bugs (not few) its still a far more immersive than anything else out there

One thing I enjoy with Shift 1 over Shift 2, is the exp from some the more aggressive things you can do. like tap out, spin out, etc. an opponent.
Nevertheless, I find that I'm still way more precise than aggressive.
Think that's the years of GT.
One thing that is better in Shift 2 is the ability to buy the 2 of the same car, and have multiple examples at multiple performance points in the garage.

The physics engine is marginally different in Shift 2. I haven't decided which I like better.
Still having fun with both games.

'Aggressive' driving ?

'Tapping' people out ?

No thanks. That's what has ruined the online game IMO. :irked:

Years are spent on trying to make the racing realistic, only for people to behave like morons doing things they'd instantly get black-flagged for in a real race.:grumpy:

I'd say Shift2. Shift1 was a fantastic game and I spent months playing it, but overall Shift2 has a...feel to it that Shift1 doesn't.

Racing in Shift2 has a balls-to-the-wall, flying-by-the-seat-of-your-pants feel that Shift1 doesn't. You feel like you are in a very high performance car, going very fast at the edge of losing control. Night races on an unfamiliar track are absolutely terrifying.

Then you start to get some experience and get the hang of the game and it only improves and becomes more awesome.

The only caveat is that you'll have to dig out some of the old threads on setting up the controls in the game - the default settings for Steering Deadzone and Steering Sensitivity are pretty busted. Luckily everyone else has done all the work for you there.

Bought Shift 2 a couple of weeks ago, and really enjoyed it after we got used to the differences to GT5, but then bought Shift 1 at the weekend and have started playing that instead. I was actually laughing out loud earlier tonight driving my RS4. The game is a joy to play! I want to finish this first now before switching back to Unleashed.(That's if I ever get the hang of drifting. Wimped out of trying so far!)

I think you'll find drift mode easier on Shift1.

I abandoned all attempts on Shift2.

Now I'm really scared! :scared:

I've been reading the thread with the tuning set-ups for easy for newbies drift cars, now all I need is the courage to try one!:)

Shift 2 with a controller sucks hard. Hyper twitchy in defiance of anything I've tried to do with setup. With a DFGT on the other hand it's a lot more enjoyable, though there is still steering lag on the PS3.

Shift 1 is much more manageable with a pad.

Any racing game is more enjoyable with a wheel PERIOD. Immersion is the key.

About the playability I guess its up to the player. I find it very hard to play a racing game with a pad and i'd rather use a keyboard instead... or not

But B-Spec in GT5 is much more enjoyable with a pad... as is Tetris

Oh, thanks for reminding me... New seasonal B-spec, oh wow! I instantly forgot about it when I read the big news. Completely forgot to hurrah too! :D

I downloaded the demo for shift 1 again, shift 2 is much better imo. Better cockpit effects and helmet cam are sweet, graphics are better.

For serious racing it is strictly GT5.
Both the Shift games are for fun.
I like the racing on Shift 2 better.
But when I "need" to break some stuff....I like Shift 1.
But if you check myh points balance. It is WAY skewed toward Precision on Shift 1. I;ve been playing GT for so long, I have no idea how to drive like a true hooligan.
But on the occasions that it happens, not being penalized for it is pretty cool.

Recently i've rented first shift because i wanted to check it out. I've got borred GT5 now. And i have to say it's fun game to play with wheel. Anyone who plays this game with controller is a bit of a moron 👍

I was really suprized by the amoutn if whell settings, turning angle, and force feedback. GT5 does not have so many options to setup 👍

I just picked up shift 1 for the xbox 360 again atfer playing shift 2 on the ps3 for a very long time and playing GT5 as well as forza 4 on the xbox 360.I must say I think Shift 1 is the best game out of all of them ,It has the greatest cockpit view i have ever seen and the graphics from the cockpit view racing is better than all these games in my opinion..

In point of fact, some of us that use DS3's do so because they come with the system, replacement cost is about 20% what a GOOD wheel costs. And as I am the parent, not living with mine, I can either choose to feed my peeps or Buy a $300 wheel for a game system I don't play that much.
I guess doing the "family correct" thing makes me a moron?

1 thing, i have a g25 wheel, im slower with it so i use the pad, agreed its not as much fun but that dose not make anyone who uses a pad a moron,

i also agree with you, a rig can take up room and sometimes its more practical to use a pad, also the cost!!!!!

I'm also a single parent (1 son at home with me), and I use a wheel and pedals.

not everyone is in the same finantial position graham my friend, for exaple your also driving around in a tvr, times are hard the now and just because someone cant aford a wheel dose not make anyone a moron, i think even you would agree with that,
