Reports are coming in that early this evening, August 4th 2011, Rowan Atkinson best know for his character of Mr Bean, crashed his McLaren F1. Reports state that he lost control, spinning several times before smashing into a tree and lamppost before the F1 set on fire. Lucky he managed to pull himself from the accident before been seen to by paramedics and taken to hospital.
A witness to the aftermath stated “no pics needless to say but the left hand door had been cut away and the whole left hand side of the car was wrecked and bent twisted. It was ruined. It looked like he lost control on the wet road and hit the trees at some speed.”
This is the second time Mr. Atkinson has crashed his McLaren F1, the first time being in October 1999 in Lancashire where he rear ended a Rover Metro.

A photo posted on Twitpic from a passer-by, it appears that the car did not catch fire as reported. Although until better images are found it's not 100% clear.

Interesting to see what Atkinson does with it. He has had a deep affection for this car since he bought it. It looks repairable (at least in comparison to some of the cars McLaren has had to rebuild over the years).

Didn't he also crash it a while back? He has gotten into quite a few accidents I recall but its cool to see that he still has it and uses it as his everyday drive all these years on.

In 1999 he rear ended a Metro

I seem to recall the Evo article on the McLaren F1 suggested the cars have a lot of parts replaced at each annual service, even if nothing is wrong. I hope he's ok having been rushed to hospital and the car is repaired soon so it's back on the road.

So they go him out of the left door seein in picture, then later a witness says that door was cut out? Said witness has no clue how F1 doors open?

It wasn't cut off by rescue personnel, going by my understanding since the whole left side was damaged I'd say it was detached in the crash.

Sounds like what one witness has said is crap if that photo is anything to go by. It's not burnt nor does the left side look terribly damaged...I'm calling BS on that witnesses statement.

If this is the pic of the crash, well I fail to see how he's managed to escape anything other than the sign...

He's crashed it twice? Sounds like Mr.Bean needs his car taken away.

Either that or someone needs to tell him not to feel cocky after Top Gear.

He probably was hooning it, which I suppose it's a proper way to wreck a car. Glad he is ok.

From that picture it doesn't look so bad... looks like it's just slid off the road in to the ditch/roadsign.

Given the value of the car is somewhere north of £1 million it will be repaired.

At least he uses it a lot.

^ This.

Too many cars like this rarely get used. Rowan Atkinson regularly uses his, and obviously pushes it too, but also pimps it out to any car mag or TV show that want to use it.

Doesn't look as bad as the media makes it out to be. But I still dread to think of the repair costs (not that he can't afford it or anything).

At least it's not being sheltered away in a garage. Rowan seems to love his Mclaren, so he'll probably get it repaired, the damage doesn't look unrepairable. I'm glad he's using it and appreciating it, unlike most other Mclaren F1 owners. I don't understand why someone would buy a car like the Mclaren F1 and then leave it in a garage, never being driven.

Probably because alot of the other owners bought it for bragging rights alone. :grumpy:

:scared:

That's just sad... :ouch:
The boys at Mclaren really got their work cut out.

"I'm sorry, your new MP4-12C won't be delivered for another year, Rowan crashed his F1 again..."

I'm not so sure that's entirely repairable, the survival cell remained intact, but the whole rear structures which hold the engine and suspension in place aren't there anymore...

So how do you go about getting a replacement bespoke V12 from BMW then?

It's a shame to see this, but I will echo what others have said, at least it was out on the road being driven the way it should have been, that's better than having it locked up in a garage.
