After reading the News Page here at GTPlanet, I would say that GT5 still has quite the following.

One million downloads (in two weeks mind you) for the DLC is quite the feat if one considers that the game is a year old.

Here is to another 12 months of great support from PDI.:)

Thats like 10 million Euro, a hell of a profit from those cars.

If they keep making 5-6 million a month...

Wasn't the download compulsory. Part of Spec 2?

The DLC was the packs, Spec 2 was an update to the game.

That is pretty impressive for a game thats been out for so long, im still surprised that the online lobby is still absolutely crammed full of users this far after the games release, it goes to show that if a game does have what may be seen as ridiculous flaws, if the core gameplay is bang-on then you'll keep a huge base of users.

This will certainly cover the costs of mapping new cars and tracks over the next 6 months. Lets just hope they don't disappoint.

Despite shifting over 5.5m copies, maybe more, since release? That make only <20% mainstream users.

Quite the following. Yes, it has.

great support from PD? I'd agree. (Many would disagree)

Sensational, or at best worth writing home about? I don't know.

Love it as I do, GT is GT and will only appeal to a certain amount of people after the initial release.

That's with any game, even industry goliaths like Street Fighter, COD and GTA. If you think of how 'niche' the racing game has become recently, it's a remarkable achievement for not just a racing game, but any game for that matter, I'm actually surprised by this.

I suspect PD would be very very pleased at having 20% of the people who bought the game buying dlc. I don't see how that could possibly be viewed in a negative light...thats a substantial number of d/ls and $.

Yeah, that is impressive. I'm proud to be one of those 1 million supporters. Even though I have little use of the DLC, I still bought it because I wanted to support PD.

I'm with you on this, my dlc cars I've only driven the R35 for a bit the rest are still untouched.

Wait just a minute. That's gross sales.

How many man hours are they putting into extra content? How much does the PSN get to keep as the merchant? (Markup or consignment).

Then we need to consider how much pro bono work they did for patches 1.01-1.13, then the massive work for 2.0.

In my humble opinion, if they are just now breaking even or getting a head just a bit, that'd be great. I'm sure they want to continue to work forward for that massive profit everyone is perceiving.

In short, I doubt they've profited millions on the DLC when you consider their other expenses.

What I'm thinking is that PD is going to release some slipshod DLC in the future. I almost didn't buy the DLC (I've had one too many second-thoughts about doing so), but they were lucky that I got off of my driving seat to drive down to the local Walgreens and get myself a $20 PSN card.

Now, I regret purchasing the DLC in a sense. I drove all of the cars at least once, scarcely used my newly acquired gear (really don't care about it that much, as I like the stock gears the way they are), haven't used a single DLC paint (though I am thinking about duplicating DLC-painted cars somehow), and I didn't spend much time on the new tracks (possibly because they're not present in a mainstream event, or something is "just missing" from them).

Let's just hope that PD actually puts some effort into content I'd love to waste my money on, but knowing that the money is usually all a company cares about (especially when under the tethered spider-web of Sony), it's hard to contemplate about...

there is no middle man when publishing DLC especially when the developer is Sony owned. No retailers taking a cart, shipping costs, physical media costs etc etc.

Anyone have stats on actual overall sales of the game?
Just wondering what this 1mill downloads represents as a percentage of overall GT5 sales.

The higher the percentage, the more likely we will be getting worthwhile DLC's in the future.

Except when they break it down for shareholders. When they separate things to make the board and shareholders happy, they have to show profit for things like the PSN. They need to take some sort of the pie. It's easier to let the little guy (PD) tread water with losses. That's just my business perspective, mostly speculative, but working for a business with many arms and subsidiaries, they can't push money around, they have to show a profit on each part. It's easier for Sony to say... Oh, PD might be close to negative return, but we're doing excellent with our PSN Online sales... especially after the PSN tabacle earlier this year.

PD close to a negative return? PD is the best selling sony studio since playstation 1. PSN debacle has nothing to do with PD.

When it comes to money making, no studio in the whole of sony does it as well as PD.

Why do you think sony gives kaz and PD time and money to do what they like?

I'm not saying PD isn't profitable, they are. And, I'm aware they're one of their best subsidiaries. I was just giving an off the cuff comment about the "negative return" bit, it wasn't serious. The PSN issue could have something to do with PD, as in if the parent company of both has issues, then neither exist. Sony's responsible for both PSN and PD, so if the PSN issue had become big enough, or continues to plague them (see the big losses they had) then Sony suffers. That's what I'm saying. I see your point, regardless, vandaliser.

So more people bought DLC to a 1 year old game then bought Forza 4!?

Dont get me wrong I play both games:tup:

But it shows how great GT is.
