Appeal of drag racing?

with the new DLC coming up and potential drag racing...what is the appeal of it?

GT5 (to me) doesnt have that much ability to spec cars, especially in terms of a straight drag race...stock cars vs stock cars...shifting gears isnt that hard...what is the appeal of it can i ask? am i missing something?
 
Noobs just turn everything on, auto trans, etc. All they have to do is floor it.
True drivers take everything off, its all about the launch and the shifting.
 
I feel the same. Whats dragracing about ?
Went in some drag online rooms (ssr7 tunnel) and it was quite boring.
Once you find the top drag cars and set them up untill u find its fastest setups then u win all right ? ...

In real life i get the picture , thers a whole lot more things that can make a win or lose.
ingame everyone got exact same tuning parts ... exact same tyres ...

i thought this would be it but my questio is, is there enough tuning and upgrading in GT5 to really make that much difference since cash is virtual? also its a straight line thing so more like gear ratio, transmission etc ? i am sure all the cars would have the same engine, turbo etc...just not many variables?
 
ya the fact that the tuning parts and mods are exactly the same down to the tires leaves little except for trans tuning and launch/shifting

i hate drag racing but this game docent represent it as it really is in real life you risk messing up your car by shifting to early .
 
Drag racing is pathetic really. It's all about who has the faster car, and depending on whether it's auto or manual shifting, who is better at pressing a button when the odometer nears the red.

I can't imagine waiting for your odometer to rollover before you shift would be very good for the engine.
 
we like drag racing because it is wat we do in real life i mean we're average ppl who are probably never going to track race but drag racing is a common thing
 
A lot of ignorance in this forum regarding dragging, unfortunately.
For those of you who think it's 'just pressing buttons' at the right time, and all cars are equally matched, you are quite far off.
Is it similar to real life dragging? Not really, but it's as accurate as the racing aspect of the game.
Dragging is all about tuning. Having the suspension set-up properly for launch, having the gear ratios perfect, having your gears aligned for maximum use along the powerband and a variety of other key tools for the fastest 1/4 car.
Circuit racing is 80% driver, 20% tune, whilst dragging is 80% tuning and 20% driver.
I suggest putting your cars against the SAME exact cars in dragging, and see whose cars come out ahead. Perhaps it'll give you a better sense of appreciation for dragging.
If you don't like dragging, then don't drag. But don't undermine the ability of the people who take enjoyment from this aspect of GT5.
 
Did you copy and paste that? I'm pretty sure I've seen that exact response 2 other times. :lol: Still seems like pressing buttons to me.

Same thing I ask (and I'm an American :lol:).

I'm usually on TGTT, and when the wannabe kool kids aren't trying to show off in their uselessly upgraded Ferrari's and Lamborghini's by trying to engage in a race around the track (I found out I'm a hot lapper - could care less about a random race), I end up having to deal with the whiny straight line racers (story: I tried taking the corner before Gambon and some kid decided to drive infront of me - started whining and whatnot :rolleyes:) clogging up the runway (making the second and third corners a game of dodge car), yelling "GTFO out of the way or get kicked".

Never understood the fantasy of driving in a straight line...or an oval - for other reasons than a speed test, especially when you're "dragging" an LMP or F1 (at which point you just look plain stupid).

Whatever float your (boring?) boat I guess. I'll just stick to getting around corners faster so I can escape all the brainless idiots on the TGTT and keep my car in one piece.


Edit: @the tool who thinks using an automatic=noob: GTFO. Seriously. Sorry that I don't want to bother with two more buttons on my (already crowed) DS3. :censored:ing elitists...

Yeah, but you do all that work and practice for a race that last 15 seconds at most and basically requires you to just sit there. I've never understood it either.

Thats the simple way, but often not the fastest.

It depends on the power curve and gear ratios, some cars benefit from a short shift while others benefit from shifting as close as rev limiter as possible. Often varying from gear to gear depending on the gearing gaps.

It helps to be timed with a ghost from a standing start so then you can work out the optimum shift points and launch which will help you shave hundreds or even tenths off total/lap times during regular circuit races.
It is a handy tool and can be enjoyable trying to obtain the best 0-60 and 1/4mile.

Well, a 15 sec. drag car won't be winning many races, most run 8.5- 10 seconds, depending on the class you're running.
Personally I find it fun to sit around and tool with a car's settings so it has a fast launch and can fly through the powerband. For those that don't, it's their right to not participate.
 
i can say the same for drifting as you say for dragging, its just pressing e brake and turning..
alto any experienced drifter would yell blasphemy..

Why? because you are quick to crush it. You put on the mask as if you are a drag racer but you aren't. You waste peoples time and make arguments with no basis. In the DRAG RACING FORUM you made a comment on how you have the fastest GT-R for tunnel drag racing. Then when you realize that you have a legit challenger, you play it off saying you have the fastest GT-R for circuit on SSR7.

Read and think for yourselves. Realize who is right and who is a troll. I wont be back to this thread and I don't care what you think of me.

If you don't like drag racing, why even bother? Can't you just let the people who like drag racing be? As I said though, we don't have drag racing in the game yet, which makes your behavior even less understandable.
