Hi GT5 players.

Introduction
Im DRIVER2183, from Brunei Darussalam, and English is my second language. I played GT5 since it first came out. I had trouble tuning my own cars in GT5 :ouch: But i never stop from tuning, as i read and learn from tips / advices from this gtplanet forum and also from online lobbies.

What is it?
I have made a simple "tuning" app from spreadsheet called Auto Gear Setup, to guide me in tuning the transmission gears for track/circuit use only and i wanted to share it to gtplanet forum. :) It took me near 2 months of working on this simple program and tested it with more than 30 cars.

Objective
It will help players who are new to tuning transmission, in need for quick tuning and top tuners are also welcome to try it out. :)

Here is the link to download the file. Instructions are simple and easy to follow.

New UPDATE ATS v5.1!!!!! as of 26 July 2012.

Credit to oppositelock, as i am using his v3.1 quick setup spreadsheet as a base setup to re-work the AGS v2.2. The AGS v2.2 is now merged into oppositelock's tuning program. And i called it Auto Tuning Setup v5.

Auto Tuning Setup v5.1 (as of 27th July 2012)

Info on v5.1: As requested, all data input are now only in Car Spec section.

Auto Tuning Setup v5 (as of 26th July 2012)

Auto Gear Setup v2.2 (as of 26th February)

Auto Gear Setup v2.0

NOTE: im using KMH to tune the gears.

If you guys ask me, how effective is this Auto Gear Setup??? :scared: I will say... test it first, then give some comments/feedbacks about it.

v2.2
- Added 2 more data input for Horsepower and Torque to improve gear ratios
- 5 Speed gearbox should be functioning

Future Updates???
- I will try to implement more variable/data inputs to improve the gear ratios. (as suggested by praiano63)

So have anyone tested it yet, i can see the file is downloaded, but just need to know how useful is the tune to you guys.

I have downloaded you're spreadsheet application. I will try it later on this day. It doesn't use Horsepower or torque to determine a tune? There are already some tuning apps on this forum.

It depends on the horsepower of the car and the track you are going to use. It will be a trial and error in the process by only adjusting the final gear.

Hi, yes i`ve downloaded and tested it. The program is good ,clear and easy to use. But, i don´t know what you are considering to say, this result is the good result for any car wit 5/6 or 7 gears.
It will be good to have some more input like.

-RPM /max power
-RPM /max torque
-Power /weight ratios......

I don´t know how it would be possible to do this but this is the most important things to set a gearbox. Can´t be so generic i think. But the program work very well, i like it, just need to check how can you make some more important input fields of variables.

Good job anyway. Have a good day.

Thank you very much for the feedback. i will try to improve the program as i learn more how to relate the program with some more important values/data.

Hi

I have tested this on my tuned NSX Type R '02... (I know it isn't made for Dragracing but I just wanted to see how you spread the gears :P)

The results
Tuned gearbox stock:
  • 0-100km/u 0:03,203
  • 0-200km/u 0:09,517
  • 0-400 m 0:10,888
  • 0-1000 m 0:19,662
  • Max. g force 1.17g
Tuned with you're easy setup app(I set final gear for the same maxspeed):
  • 0-100km/u 0:03,076
  • 0-200km/u 0:09,367
  • 0-400 m 0:10,805
  • 0-1000 m 0:19,562
  • Max. g force 1.17g

I used an automatic gearbox to avoid bad gearchanges. Tcs was off so I think the wheels had less spin in you're setup. I think this program works to spread the gears even but as already mentionned before it doesn't use the power and torque.

Anyway I think its better to use this to spread you're gears and then fine tune the final gear in stead of the stock settings :) Also I first wanted to try the 5speed but its broken :indiff:

Srry my English isn't that good :P

Thank you for your feedback 👍 and sorry for the inconvenience caused by 5speed gearbox, calculations have gone wrong and gives out "off" ratios :scared:

I am in the process of correcting errors in 5speed and when its done i'll be working on using more input data from horsepower and the torque to improve the app.

I haven't tested it but I'm sure I can't add anything to it that Praiano didn't already mention. My method for setting up a gearbox is two fold and perhaps you can use some of this in your method..

1. You have to set up a launch gear. For most cars that's first gear and if possible you have to set it up so that on the tires you are using on the car, first gear will not make the tires go red, nor bog down the engine. I don't believe you can calculate this, and so I'd leave that as a trial and error part of the tune. In public lobby racing, races are often won or lost at the start line. Qualify up front, out race the other guys to the first corner, get out ahead of the carnage and often that's the end of the race. Survival and success are often related online...lol.

2. The balance of the gears are set up so that you can operate throughout the most preferred rev range, the range where the power peaks. Ideally, depending on the car, if the range of operation of each gear is say 1200 rpm, you want the beginning of a particular gear and the end of the gear before you upshift again, to operate over the highest point of the HP curve. Let me give you and example.

Redline is 8000
Peak HP on a relatively smooth curve is 7000
Range of RPM for each shift is about 1200 rpm.

For this car then ideally you want to shift up around 7600 rpm, dropping the revs to about 6400 rpm, and again with the next gear caressing the peak of the power band, ensuring maximum power throughout the gear. You'd then go up to 7600 rpm and upshift again. This ensures you use the peak power available for that car and it does makea difference. Some cars like the Zonda C12 for example have a peaky power curve that drops off dramatically near the redline. Shifting at the right time on a track like Road Course Indy can make a couple of seconds difference in lap time easy.

For top speed of a given track, you want at least an extra 25-30 km/h on tap for drafting purposes. So in this case, you'd want to set up 6th gear so that you can achieve the top speed you want, without redlining the engine.

Not sure how you can program all those parameters, I just do it by eye but it does tend to work. I've had many comments racing online to the effect that even though I'm in the same car as someone else, somehow I seem to have more get up and go than they do, and while some of it is good PP tuning, the rest is transmission tuning.

Exactly Johnny, good resume, you`re the man. Launch grid or rolling start, top speed race with draft or max speed for hotlap... Tires.... There is so much things to consider that i will not publish any unique gearbox with my tunes. It´s very quick to tune a basic good gearbox for each condition written above and also depending of the parts added on the car. I think i will offer to tune a gear box for any special case by PM. Don´t know exactly, perhaps publishing 3 or 4 basic gears tunes..???!!! Need to think something about it.

Hey guys, have anyone tested v2.2 yet? havent been online for a month. so i just come here for a little check.

I tried this yesterday on my BMW 120d. Although sixth felt abit tall overall the gearing felt good but that might be more to do with the car.

I'm going to built up a Mercedes SLS today so I'll try it with a car with more power. Overall a good program.

This works but like it mentions its not 100% accurate. I will continue to use this because it's good. All I must do is tune the gears a bit more. 👍

Fantastic, i tested in comparation with default gears, the version 2.0 was 1 second more fast, the 2.2 version was 2 second more fast in circuit the madrid !!! Perfect !
Thank you very much !

Thank you, i will try to improve with your ideas.....

Thank you for your feed backs guys. I will try to improve it from time to time, giving better accelerations and speed.

Updated tuning program. Credits to oppositelock as i am using v3.1 quick setup spreadsheet to re-work AGS v2.2. Check OP for links

Yo yoh
Great work. I will try to use it. Can I download the file using iPad ?

Well done. I will use it next weak to tune a "Nordschleife"-setup on an Opel DTM-Astra. Just found a typo: Level 4 of the suspension-setup should be:
"Race-Car with Race Tyres".

Thank you for the heads up.

As requested, ATS v5.1 is up for download
All data input is now all in Spec Cars section only...

The last version not so friendly user, as it need to jump back and forth to the to enter the data input at gears section

Thank you for the heads up.

A little bit late but I can tell you that - in comparison to my former setup - I found 15 seconds around the "Ring" (24h layout) with the help of your tuning sheet 👍
