Online Bug: Test Race

img.php

Knowing race series here restrict themselfs to 12 drivers on the grid due to the 'online bug'.
I'm willing to set something up to do a thorough online racing test to see if it's still there, somewhere.

Wanted
  • 11 wheel drivers with headset (I'm n°12)
  • 4 controller drivers with headset
  • 4 reserve drivers with headset in case some drivers can't attend at the last moment.
Wheel or controller is not important for the reserves.

Race Specs
  • Car: *TBA from recommended garage.
  • Track: Daytona Oval
  • Tyres: Racing Hard (R1's)
  • Track Edge grip: Real
  • Tyrewear/fuel consumption: On
  • Visible Damage: On
  • Laps: 5

Lounge Settings
Private lounge 'GTP_Test'
* I will send FRs once you are confirmed.
  • Default track will be set on Daytona Oval.
  • Race Quality: Standard
  • Chat Quality: Low

Races
6+ races will be run with different specs. Using less (mics, visible damage, steering wheels) as the races pass.

  • Race 1: Wheel users on wheels, mics [ON], Visible Damage [ON]
  • Race 2: Same as race 1 except for visible damage. This will be turned [OFF]
  • Race 3: Wheel users on wheels, mics [OFF], Visible Damage [OFF]
  • Race 4: Wheel users change to controllers, mics and visible damage [OFF]
  • Race 5: Everyone on controller, mics and visible damage [ON]
  • Race 6: Re-do race 1; Wheel users on wheels again, mics and visible damage [ON]
  • Additional Race(s): If a bug was noticed. These may be held to see how things evolve when people drop from the race and the number of racers drop to 12 or even less.

NOTE: No matter how bad the lag/bug may be. You are expected to try and finish every race for the sake of the test to be as complete as possible.
NOTE 2: wheel users, please take some practice on the controller as this could have been a long while ago since you have used your controller to race.

Time and Date
  • This will all be happening Saturday Mar 17 at 22:00 GMT.
The lounge will be open roughly around 21:00 GMT.

Registration
Post here,
  • Your PSN-ID | controller/wheel | confirm you have a headset.
  • Run an internet connection test on your PS3. [XMB > internet settings > run test]
Take NAT-type, up- and download speed from that test.

Use following format:
GTP_Speedy6543 | DFGT | headset [yes-bluetooth] | NAT2 | download: 19.3Mbps | upload: 2.9Mbps

NOTE: Not using this format to register and you will be ignored.
NOTE 2: I will be picking various people with various speeds and connections so please be honest about the results you get from your tests!

Testraceday
  1. First of all, make sure your bluetooth headset is fully charged.
  2. Go to the clock options in XMB and update via internet before starting GT5.
  3. Starting up GT5, make sure you delete your cache. [GT Life > Options > Online Options > Delete temporary files]

Know, in case some people have troubles getting in the lounge, be patient as this could take a while then before everyone is in the lounge. Maybe a reset of the lounge could be necessairy aswell.

I can participate.

GTP_MilleRSVR | Fanatec GT2 | headset [yes-bluetooth] | NAT2 | download: 9.1Mbps | upload: 1.2Mbps.

I'd like to help out.
RFLX_Niop | G27 | headset [yes-usb] | NAT2 | download: 7.2Mbps | upload: 721kbps

I cant make it, but I would recommend a track other than the oval otherwise it is less likely to happen, try monaco or somewhere. You will need fast cars, probably and FGT because it will be more noticeable than something with higher downforce such as red bull or F1. You may need more laps too, try putting it at 50, if its still there you will notice it within 5 laps anyway then you can back out, Ive found it didnt happen with short races for some reason and the rest sounds good, oh and you may want to do a few laps in free run too, just so you know what times you should be getting 👍 Good luck with it, think its probably fixed now anyway.

I would love to help out but I have a race then. All the best with the testing. 👍

I'll be there! :)

GTP_PASM | G25 | headset [yes-bluetooth] | NAT2 | download: 10.0Mbps | upload: 1.0Mbps

Not too sure about the exact connection speeds but I remember them being around these values. Not more than 1Mbps spread on download and 0.2Mbps on upload. I can post some speed test results in the weekend if necessary.

Great to see guys signing up 👍
You don't need to post speed test results though, just the Ul/Dl speeds your PS3 netork connection test results show.

Speedy. Will you be opening the lounge a little early (15-30 mins) so people can "stagger" when they join and avoid the usual problem of 16 drivers trying to join a lounge all at the same time?

If Hydro is confirmed may I suggest he actually host the room with his NAT 1 connection? Especially if you plan to stream any of the test.

Yes Tim. The lounge will be open ~1hour in advance (21:00 GMT).

I have a 0.3mb download and 0.1 upload if you want me to join? Im a pad and have a bluetooth headset or can use an eyetoy camera?

Yes please. 👍
Have a look at the format-to-follow in the second post. ;)

EDIT:
Just one question, can you race online without/with minor issues?

m8h3r | PAD | headset [yes-Bluetooth or Eyetoy] | NAT2 | download: Failed (0.3mbps)| upload: Failed (0.1mbps)

I know the MPBS anyway just my playstation fails everytime

Nevermind my question m8h3r.
I just went over some of your posts and saw you're racing online quite a lot. 👍
Good to have a low bandwidth driver too.

Wish I could make it guys, but I'm busy on Sat 20:00 GMT to Sun 02:00 GMT. :(

Might be nice to also try changing the Chat Quality to a lower-than-Standard value (just don't try Minimal, it's horrible/unusable). But I know that means kicking everyone out of the lounge just to change the setting. 👎

We are in fact setting the room up with mics set to low. OP has been updated 👍
We currently use the 'low' setting in all 3D3 / GTP lounges and the voice quality is fine, so there is no real need to test the higher chat settings.
FYI - When we previously tested mics at 'minimum' (lowest setting) chat quality was so bad the mics may as well have been disabled.

I'm in!

Rossomthepossom | DS3 | headset [yes-headphones with attachable mic] | NAT2 | download: 5.79Mbps | upload: 0.36Mbps

EDIT: Just found out that I won't be available for the first 25 mins of testing. Is that alright?

That shouldn't be a problem CARCRASH.
It already takes some time to get everybody in the lounge.
I'll put you up as a reserve for now, ok?

Yep OK, that's fine. Thanks for the information. 👍

gtp_jtv90069 | DS3 | headset [yes-bluetooth] | NAT2 | download: 5.5Mbps | upload: 0.7Mbps

Just got the headset a half hour ago and see your still short on DS3 users so I'm good to go :D

Thanks Jon. You're added.

_______________

To every one else:
Sign up if you're available guys.
This will be for the better of all those series here.

Speedy, take your pick depending on what you need:

GTP_ealirendur | G27 | headset [yes-bluetooth] | NAT2 | download: 5Mbps | upload: 0.7Mbps

or

GTP_ealirendur | DS3 | headset [yes-bluetooth] | NAT2 | download: 5Mbps | upload: 0.7Mbps

Ren, you can go with your wheel. Thanks for joining. 👍

I'll be making the new PSN account this evening and start sending out the FR's.

Although, on the other hand, we're only with 10 drivers signed up ATM and we need a full grid in order for the test to be succesfull...

I just posted a plea for more drivers in the original bug thread.
Everyone wants a solution, but only a few want to contribute so far 👎
Hopefully some more will sign up / respond to PM's, as there is no reason whatsoever in testing less than 15 drivers.
We already know 14 with mics can work.

I would personally still like to verify 14 with mics at a high resolution / high detail track like Spa with premium cars is "race ready". I'm still concerned about any number over 12 with mics enabled. If it works without lag with 14 at Spa then try Spa with weather. And maybe a track with time change as the graphic processing required for dynamic lighting is a bit more complex.

IMO, with 14 we can still glean some good information, but of course 15-16 would give us the full picture.

I'd like to give Spa a shot too, but we do have a successful 14 car (premium) test at London which is as heavily detailed as any track - probably more.
That race had all of the ingredients of a solid test and it went off without a hitch.

I'm of course not objecting to a weather / time change test, but that is above and beyond the original purpose of this test.
