I'm of course not objecting to a weather / time change test, but that is above and beyond the original purpose of this test.

Agreed, but if we only get 14 drivers some aspects of the proposed test have to be scrapped due to insufficient numbers, so if we end up with 14 instead of just scrapping the entire test we can "alter" the program to at least get something out of it.

I was in the lounge for the race at London observing with 14 driving and I do think it was a good test, but one driver could only see about 3-4 other cars so maybe it was more like 13.2 in the race and not a true test of 14. :sly: Plus 2 observations have a lot more power than 1.

I think if we just post an open lobby, we could get the few more drivers that we need. What do you guys think about picking up a few randoms?

The race is at 6 pm est for me so I can be online by 5 pm est.

The test must be held in private lobbies, as that is the setup that GTP Online uses, as do most of the OL racing series.
Additionally, the test is for specific things that potentially involves testing with different hardware setups (wheels, mics, etc.) that we are tracking in advance. A random drop in driver would be unaware of the rooms purpose, and may be far more of a hinderance than help in this specific situation.

Thanks WAGG, see you online 👍

To my knowledge, once a lounge is created you would have to back out and then create another one to turn mics off and then back on. Is that the procedure for tomorrow? Also just giving you guys fair warning, I'm hearing impaired so while I do have a mic I rarely use it but I'll have it on tomorrow night. Please be patient if I cannot understand what people are saying, or type it out lol. Thanks for doing this 👍

All of our instructions will be typed as well as spoken if necessary, so you will be fine tomorrow.

You are correct regarding room mic settings, so we also have 2 other lounges that we will have setup with different mic settings and we can instruct drivers to go to a different lobby should the first one not prove sufficient for any reason.

Ok cool. Will we be getting three friend requests then, in case the first lounge does not work? Or just one for now and the others if necessary? Lot of questions I know lol.

Questions are good, so don't worry bout it 👍

We'll just have the one invite for now, as we can send out the ones for alternate rooms quickly enough.
We only plan to change lobbies if the 'low' mic setting needs a lower trial/ test.
Low is more than adequate for chat (GTP_ Online WRS races use that setting every week), and 'minimum' is basically useless, so if 'low' doesn't work, or needs a comparison test, there's only one setting in the middle to try.

I may participate in this. I'll get my up/download speeds in a bit and sign up if I don't have any time conflicts.

Also, are you going to close the test lobby to disable mics or simply have everyone turn them off? Just asking because a group I raced with tested how much bandwidth was used with mics on, then mics turned off, then with mics disabled completely. Although everyone just switched off their mics, there was still a considerable amount of bandwidth being used versus when they were disabled. And if I missed the details and my question is already answered in a previous post, sorry.

EDIT: A few of you guys mentioned racing at a highly detailed track like Spa. From my limited experience, Laguna is problematic. I don't know why but the series' I've participated in have ran Laguna and had lag issues there. Just my two cents

Switching off mics isn't the same as having them disabled in the lounge settings, so if we need to test with different lobby settings, we will most likely change lobbies.
You are correct that additional bandwith is not adjusted if the mics are simply turned off by the drivers.

Just so other drivers know, we (GTP WRS Online) have succesfully raced in a 15 driver lobby with mics off, and a 14 driver lobby with mics on in the last few weeks.

I believe I'm not a very capable host though because I haven't been able to host 12+ driver races without an issue. My internet connection is good; wireless, NAT2, high bandwidth, but it seems not stable enough to host imo. With all of these "issues" you plan to test, are you planning on posting a basic how to thread for hosting races? I've asked several members about what's the best option for hosting. Such as unfixed/fixed host, what race quality to run, etc. I believe a good how to thread could be made from this for nOObs like me.

We are also working on a "Online Connection Guide" for the WRS section of GTPlanet.
Once we have all the data we need, the guide will be updated to include this test.

For the bug test on Saturday, Myself or a regular 3D3/WRS online Host will host the test. We are collecting UL/DL speeds for statistical reference in case certain drivers have issues that the rest of the field did not experience.

A connection guide is exactly what I have been looking for. I'd love to contribute. I'll post my info here soon!

I could have posted it earlyer , but I'm in:

Added you to the OP Pekka. 👍
However,
OR, we get 5 more entries between now and the test.
OR, we don't have a test to run.

I'm quite disappointed to see such a low attendence for this. 👎
Gives me the impression people can complain about the online physics but are not willing to test and see what works.

For those who did sign up: 👍 and thanks for the support.

It is so disappointing. It seems people just complained because everyone else did. That fact that we could have 75% solved the bug is the part that's most irritating. If we narrowed it down to a specific thing that gets it then not only can people avoid it but PD would know the parts to fix.

Just finished GTP_Aderrrm's GT3, GT4 200km Spa race.
Grip Reduction on Wet Track/Edge: Real
Damage: Light
Visual Damage: OFF
Tire Wear/Fuel Consumption: ON
Slipstream Strength: Weak
Mics: Disabled
don't know what room quality was.
16 started, had no lag that I could tell. 1 left room mid race, 2 dropped out of race. Started getting some problems toward the end, a couple of the faster cars were suddenly behind me on the position list, then one was back ahead. On the last lap there were 6 people disconnected in a few seconds, most had just crossed finish line.
My car felt the same throughout the race so lag didn't effect my car or times.

Don't have to go in to work now, so if there is a test, i will be there.
MY connection speeds jump around a lot, so i posted my lowest numbers from 5 tests this morning .

I will definitely be able to attend so you can take me off the reserves 👍

I wanted to help you guys out here but the time is just too late for me when there are six races to be done. I will try to make it though, but if I do I won't be able to talk on my headset for reasons I'll explain in the lounge (through chat).

Wait. I thought with Speedy's message that you guys had already started and I see it's two hours away. I still might be able to make it then. The "cable guy" is coming over to look at my connection 1 hour before start... if he's on time and out of here I'll join.

Appreciate the help Biffy 👍
The tests may not take as long as it looks. If we have 16 drivers in the lobby and the first test with wheels/ds3s, and mics is successful, most of the remaining tests are not really necessary.
I'm crossing my fingers on that one though....

Ross, Tim 👍

Come on guys 3 more for a full 16 driver grid.

Like Hydro said, if the first test whith wheels and mics enabled turns out good.
We could go over to a test on Spa or something.

Yes please! 👍

Update the thread title and say you need 3 more quick!

Done :)👍

EDIT: I'll stay signed in as GTP_Test for the test. This to make it more easy to send/accept additional FR's.

Hi guys, are we still a go for today? I tried to enlist some people I race with regularly but no one has responded yet lol.
