The Cars
This championship will be based around the 2012 FIA Formula Two Championship. The car used will be setup to as close to the car used in that series as possible. The car used in F2 is the Williams JPH1B.

The car to be used in this series will be the Formula Gran Turismo with restrictions to bring it as close to F2 spec as possible.

See post No.11 for FGT setup. Although not enforcable, all cars will have the same basic setup. This should make the racing closer and more interesting. The setup will change from time to time as we find better setups during practice

The idea behind this series is for close, open-wheel racing which encourages good racing and improves driver skill.

More details to come. Register your interest in this forum. Thanks.

Not got any particular day or time yet. Probably weekday and evening but depends on what most people can do.

Might be interested to could be something fun for me to try, although after trying the FGT in the Spa time trial on race hards (750PP) I think race softs might be too much but im not sure..

Either way ill still no doubt give this a go ;).

Interested if it's on a weekday between 7pm and 10pm.

EDIT: Why not add Monaco to the schedule?

Well since I'm in North America and most of the people interested are in Europe this could be a tricky task to find a time slot which works for everyone. Everything after 8.00pm GMT (4.00 pm EST) would work for me.

I agree with Paul and think RH would be a better option...

Please decide on a day and lets see now many people can make it. I would be interested either way.

Ok so if we say Mondays,
Room open at 20:30GMT,
Qualifying at 21:00GMT,
Race 1 at 21:15,
Race 2 at 21:40.

How would that work for everyone?

Here's the reason for racing:softs.
1st, they have the best grip out of all the racing tyres available and so replicate the new Yokohama tyres for this season.
2nd, i dont buy into the thought that the provide to much grip and are therefore "unrealistic" as i have never driven a real life 2012 F2 car therefore i have nothing to compare it to. If someone has driven this car then they can make the "unrealistic" comment.
3rd, I want competitive racing with as many cars on the track as possible, for most of the races. If that means giving people the best tyres and full downforce then thats what they will get.
Last, I use a DS3. I get no feedback when i put power down and theback end slides out with Racing:hards. I want this to be a fun championship.

If the series grows and gets as popular as my last series then i might look at turning it into a more serious championship with full hardcore rules, but for now i just want fun racing...

@TomMcD - Yeah i would love Monaco too but i think it would be too messy. Maybe next season or once we know everyone can handle the F2 spec FGT :)
I did have a little race round Cote d'azur last night and it was good, but then there was only two of us....

Edit: Another thing which is quite usefull in deciding if the series is for you is these test times:
Real 2012 F2 car @ Monza - 1:35.000 ish
My F2 spec FGT (only using 6 gears remember) - 1:34.000 average
If you are getting under 1:30 or over 1:40 then i would suggest this isnt your level of competition. Im not saying you cant join, just be aware that you might be driving alone (either out front or at the back) and it might not be much fun.

Monday 21:00 GMT should work for me. 👍

As for the tires, it was just a suggestion...I personally don't have a problem with the RS. The only thing I wouldn't like is to pit for new rubbers every 4 / 5 laps, but I also haven't tested the car yet to your specs....so it might be even not that bad.

I will get my FGT upto spec and see what it looks like before making anymore unqualified comments. :sly:

Anyways, sign me up.

Here is my full setup.

Formula Gran Turismo
Max Power: 473 BHP (50.6%)
Weight: 570kg (+20kg)
Performance Points: 814pp

Suspension
Ride Height Adjustment (mm) -5 , 0
Spring Rate (kgf/mm) 16.4 , 17.5
Dampers (Extension) 6 , 8
Dampers (Compression) 5 , 7
Anti-Roll Bars 5 , 7
Camber Angle (-) 2.5 , 1.5
Toe Angle -0.25 , -0.15
LSD
Initial Torque 15
Acceleration Sensitivity 40
Braking Sensitivity 30
Aerodynamics
Downforce 70 , 90
Brake Balance Controller
Brake Balance 7 , 10
Transmission
1st Gear 5.856
2nd Gear 4.059
3rd Gear 3.196
4th Gear 2.556
5th Gear 2.063
6th Gear 1.750
7th Gear (Not to be used) 1.519
Final Gear 4.000
Max Speed 360kph

Everyone can setup how they want. But if everyone had the same setup then it would make for better races. This is why i share this one. It works well for me at Monza. Car feels planted and steady. Transmission needs some work as it hits the limiter in 6th when behind someone but isnt too bad. Even with brakes so high the wheels are good for atleast 10 laps. Havnt done much more than that in a test but will sometime this week.
Feel free to post better setups so that we can all start on the grid wit similar cars. In the real F2 the cars are all made buy Williams and each driver gets a different Williams engineer for a weekend. So the cars are setup pretty much the same anyway.

edit: after a test of the tyres i can confirm racing:softs will last an entire race. I did about 20mins at Monza and only lost about 1/3 of the tyre grip.

Thanks JT, I will give that a try. 👍 I will add your PSN this way we can do some practice together if you like.

Troylee Interestingly racing soft lasts very long on the formula cars (F1 2010, 2007 and FGT) Due to theyre low weight its only road car that munch through them in 5 odd laps because the racing soft is not for road cars its more a F1 tyre ;). (Imo like Super softs in pirellis range) which on an F1 lasts around 12-16 laps depending on the track.

Im also not oppossed to race softs was just saying is all. race mediums might be closer to their tyre but im not sure.

Ill test with your settings on Monza to see what lap I get. Btw Immortalpilot is an "alien" so he will win every race no doubt .

I am aware of pilots driving ability and if he does race with us then no doubt the race will be for second. All i can ask is for everyone to use the same setup and make the race about driver skill rather than driver tune ability.

Sign me up then mate, this looks real fun 👍

I understand about Monaco, detuned FGT's on Soft tires shouldn't be too hard to control though. As long as you're not running with heavy damage it wouldn't get too messy.

Yeah going to go with light damage due to the races being quite short. Any damage would finish your race if it was heavy.

Yep, only works with IndyCar as we have yellow flag periods.

I'll be happy to help you out next week with testing as I've got a fortnight off school for Easter. Can't do anything till then since I'm jetting off to Madrid tomorrow :)

I should be on tonight sometime. Maybe 1st official test race could be next Monday, same times as stated above. I'll tidy up the OP tonight when im on the pc at home.

This indeed looks very very good9racing hards would do it for me!)... I'll be looking in, depending on the final raceday/time I might jump in!

Im online now if anyone wants to join for some test races.
