2012 is the 80th running of the Le Mans 24 Hours, the greatest endurance race of all! Last year Audi won despite losing two cars in the most horrific crashes seen at Le Mans for years. Audi have 4 cars entered for this years race that also runs as a round (the 3rd to be exact) of the World Endurance Championship. Audi however have competition, the return of Toyota, with the TS030. Le Mans will be the debut for the two Toyota's, and so all eyes will be on the japanese cars. The unofficial petrol class in LMP1 also see's the british Strakka and JRM teams (JRM with David Brabham as one of the drivers), as well long time Le Mans favourite Henri Pescarolo running one of his Pescarolo prototypes as well as a reworked Dome prototype.

LMP2 will see some interested GTPlanet fans. GT Academy graduate Jordan Tresson is in a Oreca prototype for Signatech-Nissan in car #23. The very first GT Academy Graduate Luca Ordonez is in the #42 Greaves Motorsport Zytek. Also the french OAK Racing team are running two prototypes badged using the British Morgan name. Lotus and HPD also appear on the entry list.

GT cars may be the slowest but are by no means the least exciting. BMW may have left, but 4 Ferrari's, two Corvette's, two Porsche's, and a Aston martin V8 make up the field in the premier GTE PRO class. the second GT class GT-AM as well as a strong field.

Garage #56 is an interesting addition to Le Mans this year. This garage is for a special experimental vehicle not covering any particular regs. This year it goes to the Nissan Deltawing, based around a failed Indycar concept this unique car will make its debut at Le Mans. GTPlanet has been following it's progress here.

Hope for another great race, with (hopefully) the Toyotas winning. I've just noticed that the new Toyotas have a very flat front.

Any reason for this, surely a smooth front end leads to better air flow.

Looks like my annual one month subscription to the Eurosport Player is approaching. :)

Subject to confirmation of their coverage of Le Mans that is.
 
As an Audi fan (at least in terms of LMP), I'm hoping to see R18s on the podium.

I finally got mine in FM4 the other day. I wanted it for months but never coughed up the money for the DLC until recently.

Audi will win this year, but its just how many have run-ins with Ferrari's... :rolleyes:

Toyota and Deltawing both could not have picked a more public debut, which is either going to very well or very bad.
 
Can't wait to stay up for the whole race and chat with you guys. It was a blast during the Daytona 24. :)

No, I want a good race. Actually that might be better since they may film GT.
 
$25 on Brian Vickers wrecking a prototype (lets make it a Toyota, just because)

$10 on him coming back out after the fact, and punting a Corvette into a wall.
 
Shame as I will be confirmed to not catch this race. On that same day, I will be moving away to further my studies and will leave my TV and Laptop at home for the first week :indiff:

If nothing happens, I'm pretty sure the Audi will win this race. I'm still unsure if Toyota can somehow produce an 'Audi like' pace and started to challenge them. I'm a little big gutted that there will be no BMW in this race this year. I guess even if I have to miss it, won't be much of a heartbreak.

I very much doubt Toyota will win, though Audi had admitted that they expect the TS030 to be faster than the R18 e-tron in terms of raw pace. Whether or not they can go the distance remains to be seen.
 
i think that Toyota may perform like peugeot in '07, fastish, but unreliable

Yeah I'd go with that assumption too, though I really hope they do well. I'm also looking forward to seeing how reliable the Deltawing will be. I can't wait :)
 
Personally I'm a sucker for the LMP/GT cars mix and looking very much forward to seeing them on the track (on telly unfortunately).

I'm a bit unsure about Audi: it's a great success story for them lately, but I get a bit annoyed by the fact it's so plain obvious it's the one manufacturer winning who can throw the most equipment (and money) at the challenge. Audi is admittedly the one manufacturer most successful with this strategy, and thus prone to criticism while the others tend to slip under the radar.

Anyway, as long as it's endurance, I'm looking forward to it!

Yes it on Eurosport, according to their website they are going to show every minute of the race, if only 'ring was so lucky.

Both Eurosport and Motors tv will be covering the 24hrs of Lemans. The fact we can not watch the ring has al to do with the fact these rights have been bought by that german tvstation (sport1) wich is a pay channel in Germany.
 
Seems like a few teams are taking quite a 'gamble' at Le Mans this year then (through choice or not) ...Anything to make the running more interesting is all good for us :) I can't wait till testing starts.
 
DeltaWing... I cant see this as anything but bad news for the whole Sports Car community. At least LMP cars (Ok... Audi and Toyota) are somewhat relevant to the road cars. But now the DeltaWing... thats just a new formula of race car. The costs, rules, development... I dont see it as worth it.

Why not open the regs up a bit and let the teams come to that sort of thing on their own?
