Is the grass any greener on the other side?

I had just come up with an idea. And it's a good one.

But first, why do you think fanboy wars exist between consoles? Personally I think it's not that they hate the games, it's usually because the other group can't afford (or won't buy) the other system and game, so it ends up as both groups of fanboys backing up their console and game.

What if one simple solution can end this?

My idea was that Sony and Microsoft (or T10 and PD) release a demo version of their game onto the other console (GT5 on XBOX 360, Forza 4 on PS3). "You will never know unless you try it" and try they will. Should this idea ever be implemented, my speculation will be that there would be tons of downloads and high ratings for each demo game on the opposite console. This will really open the eyes of 'fanboy' gamers and will open a window of opportunities to T10, PD, sony, and microsoft.

Yeah, right.

If you want to see how the real debate between *fans* of both games looks like, I humbly propose you the probably most legendary "VS" thread on that subject ever conceived:

Official [Forza 4] vs Gran Turismo 5 Comparison Thread of John, Chapter 11, Verse 35™

From NeoGaf forums.

Dozens and dozens of members were banned during conception of that thread, hundreds of members were cross-ignored and the level of lunacy that spreads through that almost 3-years ongoing festival of madness is beyond explainable.

It started as "GT5:Prologue VS Forza 3" thread back in 2009 and it developed to current state in the past 1100 days (as today it have 16428 replies).

If you are willing to spend few days in reading one of the craziest debates that ever graced the both console and GT/Forza fanboyism at one place, you will not regret it. It have drama, soup-opera developments, quoting insane level of interweb informations, comparison of crazy things, beautiful .gifs of both games and rare moments of sanity and calmness.

I sincerely recommend reading that thread to everybody. One day it will have legendary status in the history of internet, communities, driving games genre and console-wars as such. Unique showcase of why your Ghandi-type call for sanity could never prevail :)

People are programmed to believe their decision is correct and to not only defend their decision at all costs but to disparage and disrespect any other choices or people who choose differently than them. By admitting another option is as good or better than their choice they are effectively admitting they may have been wrong, and people don't like doing that. Thus, fanboy wars are born.

It has very little to do with the actual quality of their choice/product, it's more about refusing to accept that your opinion may not be the only valid one. It's human nature and unfortunately no amount of free demos will ever change that.

It's not a bad idea, but I fail to see how this has anything to do with GT5?
Personally, I think most console fanboys are at a very young age. They'll learn as they grow up. I haven't tried Forza 4, but I do think it looks like a great game. There are certainly some features in it that I'd like to see in GT5, and the other way around.

The only reason I'm not going to buy a 360, is that I refuse to pay to play online, and that I'm not a huge fan of MS. I have nothing against the console, just don't like how MS does business.

Now to engage my brain...

I think this idea would only give more fuel to either side of the fanboy war. As mentioned earlier people in fanboy wars do not like admitting they're incorrect. Giving them the equal and opposite game will only lead them to gather more ammuntion for their fanboy war.

Monopolistic competition is great for the market.

If the demos are released and people try it out, what could go wrong? PD or T10 won't lose any money. the least that could happen is a slight increase in sales for consoles and games. no biggie.

GT vs Forza threads we already have, please use them rather than starting the same discussion all over again.
