Biggest game-changing feature Polyphony could add to GT series?

What could PD add to the Gran Turismo series that would effectively change the way we played?

My answer is this:

Tyre wear. I think it would be one of the biggest changes to the series and how it is played as it would no longer be a simple case of choosing A, B or C when you start a medium to long race.
Having more options before such races would make choosing the right tyre that much more difficult and would get a lot of people testing tyre performance before starting a proper race.

What if the choice to have either cross ply or radial tyres was thrown into the equation?
Perhaps different tyre brands?
Maybe fuel weight would have more of a key role as would track temperatures?

A lot of races have been won or lost, not because of the drivers, teams, pit-crews and cars, but tyres!

If the temperature of the track affected the performance of the tyres would that mean you would postpone the race until track conditions were in your favor? Or would you simply choose a set of tyres that you've been trying in practice mode?

Biggest thing to make racing more exciting/interesting is to make sure they force players to think more about racing strategy and add more random challenging events during the races. This can be acheived for example the following points:

- Better implementation of the weather system (and real-time weather!) for all races, not just a few of them.
- Make more use of pit stops during all races (not only the longer ones)
- Better tyre system
- More intelligent a.i. that can drive agressive or tone down to save tyres/fuel for example, all depending on the situation
- Add damage and repair time in the pits
- Add failures (to a certain extent) (can be switched off)
- Add more endurance races
- Add accurate fuel tanks
- More driver mistakes and dangerous situations to cope with
- etc.

All these changes would make racing much more interesting and that would be a huge game-changer for me, because Gran Turismo always had that very sterile racing feeling to it and this would spice things up

I did like the variety of drivers that you have in Forza 4, with M.Rossi being a dirty version of Schumacher.
But the AI should be able to drive a bit more interdependently from one another rather than another case of 'the fastest AI car is always in the lead'

Would love to have a Rossi-like AI rival in GT... ah, the fun times me and Rossi had together :sly:

Online:

-Dedicated servers
-Realistic collisions

Offline and in general:

-Practice/Qualifying sessions before any race.
-Safety car and realistic flag regulations.
-Spotter (someone telling you what happens during the race and to your car)
-Realistic damage system.
-Realistic engine sounds.
-Better IA.
-More open wheel cars. (Formula BMW, Renault, Ford, Mazda, Skip Barber, old F1 cars...)
-Physics overall. (suspension, tyre model and gearbox should be fixed)
-Day/night/weather cycles at every track.(customization by the user)
-Etc.

There is no such thing as a single game changing feature, GT6 needs to be full of improved and new features to be successful, as others have listed.

- A feature rich online experience
- A more sophisticated physics model with matching force feedback
- A rough, rugged and raw audio experience with a full range of frequencies

-- Removal of PD's laughable slipstream equation (maybe Adrian Newey can come to the aerodynamic rescue)

As already pointed out no one new feature will fix GT.

But if I were to choose one feature that would improve the game the most, it would be a detailed Event Creator

Besides basics like letting us choose the track, weather, and length of race, let us choose individual AI cars. Let us adjust the AI/speed and performance (through parts and perhaps restrictions) of each of those cars. Let us use custom liveries for these opponents if there is a livery system.

Also give XP and credits depending on the length of the race and difficulty.

I think that would be the biggest game changing feature they could add.

Ability to "make" your own cars would be cool. Say for example taking a chassis from a M3 putting a Mustang front end, a Skyline rear end, choosing the drive train format such as FWD RWD AWD, choosing a transmission and being able to throw a Viper V10 in it. Would be cool to see what cars people come up with.

a fully customizable track editor

I'd go insane for it . Fully customizable includes weather and day/night custom tracks. Specific weather/forecast settings. Those are just the basic options I'm hoping for. I don't expect a track editor like a PC sim's "only-for-the-capable" track editor mod. Still...

It would be amazing. Oh and this time, let us share them with the world more easily.

Better sounds, more weather: hail, lightning, wind.

Race stopped if weather is too poor.

Better night and day: Sun, moon, stars.

Need the A.I. to be like F1 2012's A.I. which is amazing.

Tire blowouts, fuel leaks, engine blown etc.

Unfortunately GT needs more than one game changing feature, it needs across the board improvement (and I find GT5 to be a really really good game despite it's faults). The basic foundation is there for an amazing game, it just needs focus, attention to detail, and follow through. But here goes:

-day/night transition for ALL tracks
-weather for ALL tracks
-more endurance races on real world tracks(Daytona 500, 24 Hours of Daytona, Spa) plus appropriate class cars and flags
-more real world tracks
-competitive AI
-much larger career mode
-career progression paths
-more series championship events rather than single race events
-better damage model, damage and tire wear in A-spec
-expand of track creator
-event creator with credits and experience
-ability to join racing clubs/teams with team tag in name online
-expanded online features (set race time length for endurance events, pace lap, parts allowed, etc)
-better utilization of series licenses
-match making online
-seasonal events available as currently done plus as online race, similar to GT5P
-leaderboards
-better tuning options
-new event types
-better event restrictions
-manufacturer events for all manufacturers
-only premium cars and tracks

Could go on and on, sorry for long list.:)

Permanent mechanical damage. Anytime a sim has realistic mechanical damage, like iracing, it produces the best racing possible. Even those of us who race clean, will sometimes drive unrealistically, take unrealistic risks in GT5 when heavy damage is not on. If it was on all the time, more people would behave like real racing drivers, instead of behaving like they're playing NFS or Forza

In addition, I think they should do away with the tire choices. For racing cars there should be only 2 dry compounds, and street cars, only stock tires that come with the car, and maybe a semi-slicks. I'm tired of going into online lobbies and finding people driving road cars on racing soft tires, it's ridiculous. Those tires make GT5 seem like an arcade game.

Further more, the levels of grip available in the soft tires need to be reduced. As lateral G stats will show, racing soft allow you to go way beyond what is realistic. Racing mediums border on unrealistic as well. If you've played a lot of PC sims and then GT5, you'll know what I mean, there's just too much grip.

So basically, the game changer that would be best for GT6 is realism. And I agree about tire wear, however I think mechanical damage and realistic grip levels are more important and would change the way people drive more so.

Forza is NOT an arcade game, so quit the trolling. In fact, FM4 has been proven to have a more realistic tyre model than GT5. So therefore, if you consider FM4 to be arcadey, then GT5 must be even more arcadey. For the record, despite being a long time Gran turismo fan, I can no longer tolerate GT5's horrible/non-existant tyre model, so therefore my answer to this topic is... PD need to improve the physics in GT6, there are some serious flaws in GT5's physics and they need fixing.

Removing the ability to change tires, so people finally try the actual cars instead of driving with glue tires that have twice more grip than real life and that remove all what racing is about, cars driving characteristics and ffb.

Second one is removing SRF as a whole and separating the "magic stability assist" portion from the ABS assist.

THANK YOU for saying what I've been wanting to say for the longest time.

TomBrady, since you're always so eager to boast how realistic GT is comapred to "arcadey" Forza, you should talk about it in this thread which I'm surprised you haven't posted in yet as much as you love talking about the subject. 💡

Plus he talks about GT not having mechanical damage and so people drive like they do in Forza when in fact Forza does have extensive mechanical damage. So that statement makes no sense anyway.

Ai that is more competitive with themselves. Regardless they don't challenge the player.. they also barely fight between themselves. Same pre-written line for each track. Who ever has the most powerful car wins. Ai should have personality within a race.

Example: The GT500 cars. The SC 430's are the slowest in game, but with AI personality maybe they could challenge the NSX's for position.

I don't think they'd take out standards.. And if they did they'd have to make up for it with other stuff to keep us occupied (customization maybe? Hehe)

Sounds! Please use something different(better) than the GT5, the GT5 is just horrible, i just took an acura nsx and it sounds riddiculous, also the bmw m3(cockpit view) sound is a joke! Please give us better sounds!

-Premium cars
-Engline sounds
-Fuel type and tank size (908 gets less gas mileage using deasel than Petrol Le Mans/group c's) < - WUT!
-Better AI (With more varied attributes - it has variation in gt5 but not enough)
-Tire wear fixed (Better with patch but still feels wrong)(Also less grippy tires - softs are definetly wrong)
-Better sense of speed. Going 250 in gt5 looks slower than going down the road at like 60

adjustable seat. so i can move the camera about in cockpit.

maybe a nice unobtrusive HUD like Skyrim or Far Cry 2 has. where info only pops up when you need to see it. make it a subdued color besides bold white. Maybe a small speedometer & revs if the car cockpit doesn't have them, gear indicator that pops up when you shift, lap time that pops up when you cross a checkpoint, tire wear & fuel reminders when they are 75%, 50%, and 25%, race position indicator only when it changes, etc... but keep the screen clear when possible ya know?. The game is so much easier on the eyes without those numbers plastered all around. i think it could be a lot more aesthetically pleasing...

More F1 cars and better AI.

Can't have more F1 cars. Codemasters holds exclusive rights to use F1 in video games, at least in terms of the modern era. They might be able to get rights to classic, by-gone eras of F1, which would be cool.

One of the biggest for sure. Also, there should be a difference between driving in the racing line where all the rubber is, driving outside of the racing line, and driving near the edges where there might be dust and dirt. In GT5 there is a difference when driving in rain, because the racing line is not as wet as the rest of the track (I first noticed this in B-spec, because the spray behind the car was much bigger when my driver left the racing line), but it could be developed even more.

And I think an even bigger change would be to make it possible for cars to break down and for AI to make mistakes. Running over curbs could break the suspension or cause a tyre blow. There could be objects or oil on the track from collisions or broken cars. There could even be cars left stationary by the side after an incident and towed away. Yellow flag, pace car etc. And mechanical damage wouldn't be repaired after ten seconds in the pit, some damages could take hours to repair...
