okay so i just got into drifting and i needed a good car. i went to the used car dealership and found a plymouth prowler. i bought it and took it to the track. if you just got into drifting, i would recommend a prowler. thing slides like nothing else, and completely stock. you just turn and the thing slides.
 
I would tell you to get a stock Silvia S15 (comfort hard tires) or a stock Nissan 350Z (comfort hard tires).

Good power/balance ratio by factory.
 
Buy an S13, put it on comfort hards and put this tune on it. Start out on a mid range RPM and as you gain experience move up to the high RPM.

I personally use 2.0 camber at the front though as I felt it had a better feel than with 3.0.
 
I second the Mazda RX-7 FC. Fantastic handling, and the best part is that mine is tuned to 274hp and has enough torque to drift easily through the last corner on Tsukuba, with Sports Hard on. :D
 
A Peugeot 908 with horsepower detuned to 650 HP can be quite fun. ;)

All joking aside, I really enjoy the premium BMWs like the M3 Coupe '07, M5, Z4 M Coupe (really good), 135i, etc.
 
I like the Nissan S13, Toyota GT86 was quite nice and I love the BMW M3 '07.
The BMW has a little more power, so I would start with the S13 or GT86.
 
yeah true dont start with the db9. get something light and japanese they drift best.(bias much?) but i definitely reccomend the db9
 
Get a 370Z, S13, C63, S15 and some other off the shelf stock FR cars. Get a variety to learn the handling characteristics of different cars
 
Get any of them cars, and put all the best drive train and transmission on it, just in-case you need to shift mid-corner. Usually stock takes too long and your car just dies.
 
I might also recommend ABS off (all aids off for that matter) for those new to drifting. Yes I know it sounds scary, but you will learn so much more about the basics of car control when there aren't a bunch of computer aids affecting the handling physics. Of course this means you'll want to adjust your brake balance, but other than that I leave my drift cars pretty much stock. Sometimes a semi-racing exhaust and a clutch and flywheel upgrade. Later you can start messing with the LSD but in a lot of the above recommended cars it isn't necessary. When in doubt the simpler the better. You can learn a lot all aids off and comfort hards.

BTR (a little more advanced, trickier to master but a lot of fun)

I also put the full suspension to drop the height right down, and take the toe off the back wheels

I'll still go back to this now even with a couple of years behind me drifting, because it's good fun!

I used to do that as well but I just put negative toe in the rear on literally all my cars
 
Start with a s13 or s15 with CH tires and a diff. Just mess around with diff so that the lack of power wont be a problem.
 
Oh really? Does that work well?

Yea it helps me so I don't have to use handbrake as much it kicks the back end out a lot easier and helps for cleaner and smoother transitions but as UrieHusky said it must be in moderation other wise it just feels like abs is off.
