Weather Update!!!

Not too long ago some people were assuming that there was a climate system in gt4 which controls the weather each race............but untill now this hasn't officially been confirmed.

Drifting in the rain ........................ :scared: đź‘Ť would be great!!!

Is there anyone who knows more about this subject?

KY has confirmed wet tracks will return and there will be more of them than in GT3. Other than that there is nothing on different weather conditions.

We've heard no mention of variable weather, so it may simply be static once again.

Also, the SSR5 Wet races were very short. There wasn't actual rain, the surface was just wet. Over 3 hours of racing that surface would dry however, something I imagine would be hard to simulate nicely, so they'd have to find a way to make it really 'rain' (visibly, continuously) or only keep it for short races.

One of the coolest bits of information we got Sony to spill was that there will be real time weather effects (which affect your handling) and the ability to race any track during different times of day.

Then, what about this?

Wow, I never saw that until you mentioned that....it looks like the hong kong track at morning afternoon and dusk...maybe there is a night track too....

The time of day is almost the same in all three shots, the sun is in very close to the same position, it is just the weather cloud pattern that is different.

I hope that there will be different weather cloud patterns for each and every track. GT4 is supposed to have the most realistic lighting/cloud/sky patterns ever seen in any game. Where did you get those pics, ZeR0? Maybe there's more... :D

If you played the Nintendo 64, you may remember a game called "F1 World Championship." It was the last F1 game I got into. It was based on the 1997 F1 championship. But anyways, I played the 1997 World Championship. When I was on pole at the Grand Prix of Argentina, the skies were looking very nice. But all of a sudden, the sky darkened. Afterwards, there was rain falling on the track, and I had to quickly pit for rain tires. I think the rain lasted for only a little while in the game. But stuff like changing weather conditions (I mentioned this in a topic I recently updated, but that's alright) have to be rendered pretty well. Those Hong Kong pictures don't really do justice to me for saying that skies will actually change. This is because I seen those Hong Kong pictures before. And if PD decides to go the GT3 route for weather changes (meaning, going in one direction, it's one weather condition. But reverse is different. For example, race Tokyo R246 in the normal direction, then race the Reverse route). Anyhow, I wouldn't mind racing in the wet. It would be a welcome challenge. Only thing is, I hope it doesn't rain at tracks I suck at. Otherwise, I'd have to try to shake off the "n00b" virus.

Woudn't they have to do a windshield wiper animation (for non-f1 cars), if it were raining at the time of the race? Because the rain would get all over the winshield, and would effect your own racing, such as turning into a corner or making a pass and then have a wiper come over or a big drop of rain, and then a crash.

If we had a windshield we were looking through then maybe.

This is why there won't be falling rain, just static conditions.

The sun in those pics look different. You can see the sun real good in the last pic, it looks like it's setting and you can tell the sun is raising in the second pic. The first pic might be in the afternoon but if this is so, the sun should be in different positions.

Hiya! :D :embarrassed:

I really hope that PD would add weather effects in the game, not just wet track, but MORE!! :embarrassed: Some exmaple I would like to include can be all applied to all the tracks and all the races.

I would like to see something like... A bit of SANDSTORM on the rally races  :embarrassed:

Some early morning fogs on any of the races and tracks! :embarrassed:

And some nightime rains or EVEN RAIN WITH THUNDER!!! PIKACHUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!! :embarrassed: :embarrassed: :embarrassed:

Well, I think snow may be possible for rally races. Personally, I'd love to rally in the snow. Maybe if Smokey Mountain was covered up in snow, I'd take the very agile Peugeot 206 WRC and kick some snow up. Maybe you can be my co-driver, Miss McLaren. If you ask me, rain is not real easy. The objective is to try to make the rain not sacrifice frame rate and slow down racing. "Pro Race Driver" had cheap rain effects, but had rooster tails of water. I don't think I've ever seen glossy roads with car reflections in real life, so that can be negated. As far as changing weather conditions go, it can be real easy or real tough. It's like frying Eggo waffles- you fry them just right, or altogether wrong.

Here in Houston, TX, USA as usual, getting rain here this morning. It's likely the bad weather will continue for the next few days. So if you want to talk weather, a lot of testing and sampling will have to be done to make it work to perfection. Until then, farewell until next time. "Pika-pikachu!" McLaren, is this your Pikachu? Here you go.

Weather effects would be a really nice touch, so long as they were done properly. It would be really nice to watch the clouds moving overhead, and watching as they slowly get darker and then find that part of the track is wet from rainfall. However, if they go into this much detail, they'll need to make sure that all the knock on effects appear. It's not easy to understand why it would be so hard to implement these weather effects until you start thinking how the weather effects the track and the cars on it. As rain falls, grip levels will drop, a dry line would slowly start to appear, also track temperatures would start to drop, effecting the cars. Also white lines start to become slippery and can so easily catch a driver out. Even the racing line itself changes slightly as drivers have to change the way they approach corners and how hard they brake etc. PD pride themselves on only adding features to their games if they are done properly, and I really do think that adding full weather effects would be a massive challenge for them.

It however does look like you'll be racing and notice as things start to get darker/lighter as the sun starts to set/rise at some courses. I think PD will slowly introduce the weather effects one by one over their games. Having rain, sleet, snow and blowing sands would be great fun and I know that if PD add these, they will do so knowing that they have done a good job of modelling their effects on the track and cars.

Cheers

Jamie

Aww, you guys, I think John's in love :)

I doubt weather is something that'll get phased in. PD don't seem to be keen on phasing anything, it's just there or it's not.

Hiya! :D :embarrassed: :lol

omg I forgot about snow! :embarrassed: Yea snow would be a very fun thing to add because it makes me think of Christmas and presentS!!! :embarrassed: I would luv to be your co-driver John! :embarrassed: I will be sure to direct you out of the course and to the MALL SO YOU CAN BUY ME TONS OF PRESENTS! :embarrassed: :embarrassed: :embarrassed:

I'm sure if I were Colin McRae, McLaren'sAngel would make a great Nicky Grist (even though both aren't active competitors any more).

I think if weather would be special, definitely have it in rally. If the Grand Canyon is any indication of future rally courses, these races will likely be tougher to complete for "n00bs" (as you all would say). I heard of British rally races through forests with rainy conditions and tough roads. Weather would make things tougher, but at the same time, more fun. Maybe have a puddle or a stream and just blast through it like the Rally of Argentina. But you don't want virtually impassible waters. Not even for a video game like GT4.

As far as snow and Christmas go, it would be interesting to have a Christmas endurance in New York or something. You know, New York City at night on Christmas Day, and as New Yorkers buy Gran Turismo 4 at the last minute, cars race across the track. Santa Claus is the flagman, and he flies away to send off presents to kids. But buy McLaren lots of presents? I'm broke. What I CAN do, however, is feel 8 to 10 years younger when FINALLY owning and playing Gran Turismo 4.

Just for fun... what else you want to ban, Code_Kev?

Pfft, n00b. I stayed up for 36 hours on the weekend, the last 14 hours of Le Mans, then a day of relative peace followed by 6 hours of Matrix movies, 2 hours of Formula 1 then generic music and gaming until 12 the next night.

climate control would give me a reason to stay awake during endurances

This is true indeed, endurences can become pretty ennoying when being 6 laps ahead of the rest and still having to race another 30 or more laps.....it's dull. But weather could spice it up a bit, cahllenging me as racedriver race on the EDGE during hazzardous condtions and not spinning of the track and into a wall.

So while taking a break from replying in active threads, I'm looking around for old stuff. If you want to talk weather, you may be able to reply to the Nur-snow topic here in the GT4 forums.

Thread from the dead!

If it meant people would discuss things here instead of creating a new thread I wouldn't mind resurrections... But here we are.
