I was wondering do any of you use the Mad Catz Steering Wheel to play GT4? If you do, is it any good? Any opinions on the subject post!

Yeah, I am having the same problem. I don't know if the Mad Catz steering wheel is compatible with GT4. I went to options and didn't see anything I can use to activate the wheel. I am talking about the Mad Catz steering wheel NON-UNIVERSAL version (the one with the shifter). If somebody could give us the correct answer. It would be much appreciated! :)

There are logitech driving force steering wheels on ebay for $30. I would strongly recommend that wheel over the mad catz if you haven't bought it already. I have heard nothing but problems about the wheel, and I had one for a little while for GT3.

Slurp

Actually, I had already owned a Mad Catz MC2 wheel. If was decent, I bought it because it had the shifter. There's gotta be some way GT4 can work with the MC2. Is the DFP worth buying, I mean it's too expensive for me, and I can't find a place where they sell it for less.

Don't even bother buying any other wheel besides the Driving Force Pro. More than worth the $115 I spent for it. If you're not going to buy the DFPro, don't buy a wheel at all. Yes, I feel very strongly about this.

buy it from amazon.com its only 105 and u can get free shipping...i order mine sunday....and they said it wouldnt come till march 8th-9th and i got mine yesterday

I have the MC2 Universal wheel and am pretty pleased with it. My biggest problem is that I'm used to using the controller for Gran Tursismo (starting with the original for PS1.) I prefer the wheel for more arcade-type games (NFSU2, Burnout 3, etc.) and the regular dual-shock for GT. Of course, I'm old and set in my ways. :)

that sounds totally the wrong way round to me.. surely wheel for simulation pad for arcade is the obvious choice? you gain far more from a wheel with the GT series than the NFS:U2 or Project Gotham 2 for examples. :)

i have the mad catz 2 universal and i like it i havent had any proplems u just have to program it ur self right when you plug it in but it takes like 5 seconds so its not a big deal

On the other hand, IGN had this review of the Xbox version of the MC2 and said it was good...

I think the reasons I do better with the controller for GT4 and the Wheel for arcade-type racers are

1) I've gotten used to using the standard controller after all these years, and
2) My hand-eye coordination is better than my hand-eye-foot coordination. I do fine driving irl, but seldom am I going 150 mph in my mini-van! :sly:

The Mad Catz Universal is 100% compatible with GT4. Just plug it in and go. No setup of any kind is required.

If you don't care about Force Feedback, and you can't stand the annoying loud "Rrrrrrr!!!!" of the Logitech wheels, and you still can't see why 900-degree rotation is a good thing in a high-speed racing game, the MC wheel is fine.

I had a DF, tried it for thirty minutes on GT3, absolutely hated everything about it, and returned it. I am completely happy with my old Mad Catz MC2 Universal. Control is precise and very accurate.

The only thing I don't like is that it has a very wide "deadband" on center as default. Read the directions about "Accudrive" to remove the deadband. You have to do it on startup every time, but it takes three seconds to do it, so its nothing.

(The Accudrive also allows you to adjust the total range of steering, so you can quickly adjust it from 200 degrees to as little as 30 or so if you want.)

:indiff: Its very strange as you see it percise and accurate....when others see it as sloppy and horrible

I agree.

I don't get it. I really don't know what they're talking about. I can put a car anywhere I want with the MC, with absolute precision. I can correct and powerslide, and drift, and do anything I want. I can give the car as little steering input as is needed at any time. I can make a car precisely track a white line at over 200 with ease.

A friend of mine got a DFP last week. He said he'll let me borrow it to see how I like it. I'll make a comparison and report back.

I use an MC2. For the price I paid I'm very happy. After a bit of practice I'm much faster than I was on the DS2. The throttle doesn't goto WOT until the pedal is probably 70% down, but there is definately a dead spot at the end, same with the brake pedal I believe.

But all in all I have had no problems with it, It works great and the adjustable steering range lets you tailor the range of motion endlessly. I switch it for high speed races or just for different cars all the time.

In that sentence I was talking about the MadCatz how he saw it good and percise and how everyone saw it as sucky, I'll be awaiting your report.

PS play on both 900degrees and 200

I recommend the Logitech Driving Force Pro, Walmart had it for $150 but I got it for only $80 bucks ;)

It was on sale btw, I dont know why so cheap.

Yesterday, I hooked up my old cheap Madcatz wheel to play GT4. Baught it for less then 20 a few years ago. Never could get it working very good with any other GT games. Anyway I was surprised that it worked. Even got the gear shift to work. After a little while of using it started to get comfortable with it. My initial thoughts our that it seemed that braking was easier then controller while using the wheel. For thoes who have never tried a wheel with their GT games, let me say that it seems to make the races more fun ( "more real" ).
If you do not want to get a wheel, let me suggest getting a wirless controller.
Got a wirless controller a week or so of getting GT4, makes using "B" spec to get cash easier and more comfortable.

I bought the DFP wheel couple of weeks ago and it has most certainly improved my GT4 experience. Playing with the DS2 just doesnt seem right nemore.

Anywayz, my friend brought over his MadCatz wheel over yesterday so we could test and compare our wheels. The first impressions i got when using the wheel was that i had to turn it all the way to its lock position before i could actually make my car turn. Basically, the accuracy and the precision of the madcatz did not compare to that of the DFP. Gernally speaking, the DFP is made more durable and reliable then the MadCatz.

I have a laminate flooring so i got really frustrated when i had to keep moving the pedals into a comfortable position during a race where as the DFP pedals stuck to the floor like glue.

The little bar on teh madcatz that lights up when u accelerate seemed pretty kool but served no real purpose. In terms of design and feel, the DFP beats the Madcatz hands down. U just cant be a leather feel as compared to a plastic feel.

I use a desk for my wheel setup and the DFP fits perfectly onto it with the height aligned to my tv making for a nice racing experience. WHen i placed the madcatz on my desk, I kinda lost the "racing experience" i had with my DFP. Because the madcatz wheel was postioned at a lesser angle then the DFP, i kinda felt like i was driving a school bus instead of a car.
As for the clamping system, the suction cup system the madcatz has isnt going to hold the wheel down if ur a 'rough' person.

After a couple of hrs of playing, i eventually got used to the Madcatz and my friend eventually got used to the DFP. The difference in our driving was that he got BETTER in GT4 while it felt like i was LOSING my driving abilites in GT4.

In terms of force feedback, the DFP triumphs over the madcatz 100 fold but thats a no brainer :P.

If u have not owned a wheel before, the madcatz is not a bad choice as youll have nuthing to compare it to so you'll naturally get used to it. But for people that have own previous wheels (I used to have the Micrsoft sidewinder wheel which i though was the greatest before i got my DFP), the DFP is the BEST wheel for obtainignt he BEST driving experience.

Only get the Mad Catz if you have very little money saved up and need a wheel desperately otherwise the driving force pro is the way to go.

Just think about it, someone actually said they rather use controller for GT4 and mad catz wheel for arcade racers. Even though his excuse is that he is use to the controller, that really shows how bad that wheel is because if he owned the DFP he most likely be using it on GT4 as well.

I have the univeral MC2 and i just bought it cuz i was getting gt4, and i must say, its excellent. If you really dont want to spend $150 for the DFP, the MC2 is a great alternative. I didn't really feel like spending $200 dollars just to play gt4, so now i can play it for only $110 AND i can use the wheel on GC as well. IMO the MC2 is great

Great wheel i think i got the universal one.
Where if i had gamecube, xbox etc i can also use it for those systems.
I just used mine for GT3 and GT4
Awesome wheel in my opinion.

I'm not about to say that the MC2 Universal is better than the one DESIGNED for GT4...however, when given the choice of spending $150.00 for a wheel for ONE GAME or spending $50 for one that I can use on my PS2 AND my Xbox, the choice was clear. It's a good wheel for the money, and the only problems I have with using it for GT4 are of my own making. I'm attempting to use it more for GT4 to get used to it (I've played Gran Turismo games with the controller since day one, and it takes some getting used to!) :scared:
