I have that magazine. It came out about a month ago. Awesome car, for sure. But, its a bit sketchy as to calling it a "Production Car" in my book. Yes, it was built and sold by NISMO, who is part of Nissan. But, they bought used R-34s, and then modified them to "Z-Tune" specs. And, they only built 20. I love the car, its an amazing piece of work. But, I don't consider that production.

The car is officially recognized as a production car. Essentially, it's a car sold with a ton of OEM options. They were built off of used chassis, but you can bet that those cars had probably never been driven.

Besides, I have a bit of a suspicion, which is that Nismo's real intent here is to requalify the R34 as production and run the R34 another season or two in Super GT.

I love it. It is about the only R34 GT-R i'd buy if i had the money (normally any R32 Skyline would be targetted by my wallet).

WOW this car is soo adorable... beautiful&powerful  I'd take that one over any Ferrari or Porsche ....

No, they were driven, some for quite a few miles. Granted, they were basically re-built again once NISMO acquired them, I still don't call it "Production"
SCC article from above
.....The 20 very lucky and rich people whom we want to say bad things about are actually buying used GT-Rs. NISMO bought used GT-R V-Specs, each with less than 18K miles on the clock, and stripped them to bare shells. The Z-tune is built at the NISMO facility by the same NISMO engineers who sculpt the factory racecars, using the same techniques, the same tools and the same expertise.

what's that hose thing and the piece connected to it?

That would be a big ass oil cooler for the rear dif fluid, and the pump attached to it to get the oil through the cooler. Hard-core stuff, but not out of place on a car like this.

But then again it's not your call, it's Nissan's and the REST of the automotive worlds. Kudo's to nissan for settin some world records.

i think what they meant was it's the fastest product of a production car. the car still is a skyline....so therefore they count it as production.

I'm pretty sure they mean it's the fastest production car, because it can be picked up from Nissan. As compared to say a gemballa which isn't picked up from a Porsche dealership...You know what I mean?

Modifying a stock car with "OEM" parts and selling it would make it a production car. The fact that they used used cars is just a little loophole that they did, since they arn't making skyline's in a assembly line anymore, this is the next option for them.

Yes, another point is that the production of 20 cars at the moment is not much, but the Carrera GT and other super cars are also ot produced in masses....

I understand what you mean, but to me, a loophole doesn't make for a production car. I consider a production car one that came out of the factory as is. Not one that has come out of the factory TWICE. Yes, you can buy them at a Nissan dealership, but that means very little. You can buy Saleen cars at Ford dealerships, no one is calling them the fastest production Mustangs ever built. I get your point, but its not what I will consider production. Because production on the R34 officially stopped in 2002, not whenever they decide to stop buying used ones to sell again. Great car, and an amazing piece of engineering. But not production in my book. Just my opinion.

how ever nice we think they are proberbly only 2 or 3 will leave japan and theyle be put in some garage as a collectors item for some rich person not driven at the nurburgring like it was in tended to

IT IS NOT A PRODUCTION CAR! NISMO does not sell cars or design, it is a aftermarket, race development branch of Nissan. The Z-Tuned Skyline R34 is only made when a Skyline R34 is found and meets the required specifications, these Skylines are hand picked to be upgraded into the title of Z-Tuned. These are not purchasable at a Nissan dealership, and nor can you order them. These are purchased through NISMO only. NISMO again is not a car dealer. These do not walk out of Nissan factories as Z-Tuned. It is like when West Coast Customs takes used Mercedes Benzs and does a make over on them, brands them West Coast Custom and resells it, it's the same concept and it is not considered production. They are not "producing" these from scratch like at Nissan factories, they are simply upgrading it engine, interior and aerodynamically, with parts engineered by NISMO for race bred purposes, not your typical "OEM" part.

But at the end of the day...
YOUR say doesn't mean anything..
It's the people in the magazines, and the clubs and the sanctioning bodies....

Sorry buddy.

This magazine article is the first to call it a production vehicle. Basing your argument on one source is not a good way to argue. Also just because you got owned, doesn't mean you need to get smart.

It's simple. Nismo BUILT the cars from scratch after tearing them apart right? The car rolled off the hand built assembly line with what 0 MILES on the ODO...It doesnt have to be Mass produced to be a Production car. 20 Were made and then it was discontinued. The fact that it was sold to the public and it had 0 km/miles on the odo = Production car. And if you have enough money, you can buy ANYTHING

shin inoue's z-tune skyline is amazing. in the duke viseo it doesnt have the z-tune kit. and r34 jse is right it is the ultimate skyline (at least the nicest ive seen)
