I'm am SO PUMPED. It's not a sequel to Ico, which is probably for the best, but rather an entire new game. Google Search

This game is going to rock. Coming out the end of this year.

Since this game is much closer to release now (October 18th), and since I didn't want to wreak havoc by opening a new thread... I'll just bump this one. :)

So, is anyone else getting excited about this game?

Me, I caught wind of it a while ago, but I didn't give it much thought. But the more I see of it, the more intrigued I get. So intrigued, that today I went out and bought a game I had totally ignored when it came out: Ico. And I'm enjoying the hell out of it, too. The design, the art direction.. it's breathtaking. And it's four years old. Hell, years before consoles could do real HDR lighting, these guys were successfully faking it on the "weak" console. Odd that we haven't seen anyone else do that. Shadow of the Colossus is the same team, except they've had three or four extra years to figure out what the PS2 is capable of. I have a feeling these videos I've been downloading just aren't going to compare to the real deal playing on my TV.

Speaking of videos, IGN has quite a few good ones.

Just imagine what this team is going to do for PS3. You know they're already coming up with something... Shadow of the Colossus will be finished any time now, they've got to be working on something else, yes? :)

Ico has a cult following, and sounds like Jedi is now one of them........ "Shadow of the Colossus" is going to be a hit. I've seen only few pics, but just by what I hear about how good Ico was, I feel the need to try it.

You need to kill 16 huge rock things by stabbing them in markers and climbing on their back.....to... bring your love back to live....
Ok that doesn't sound as cool as say...

"There's these creatures taring apart the land" etc

I have to go play ICO first....even tho it ain't a sequel I just need to, habit. I saw screenshots of the game, looks kinda cool. But the graphics look horrible, that's what showing clips from ps3 games will do to you when looking at ps2 games. I can't appreciate ps2 games that much for graphics anymore.

Actually, if you really want to appreciate the graphics, go look at other PS2 games. I was watching one of the vids earlier, and later on, I saw a screenshot in EGM of a Gamecube game (Geist, I think it was), and the first thing that popped into my head was "Gaah!! Icky!!" And that was compared to Shadow of the Colossus, not a next-gen game. :)

im gonna get it for sure, i spent months looking for ico, found one at last - with art cards too :D, and that was astonoshing so beautiful

I guess you got to know where to look.. hehe. I spent all of ten minutes. :) When I decided I wanted to get it, I went to Gamestop.com last night, checked the stock of the local stores, saw they had it in stock, then went down there today and picked it up. :) They had two copies, actually, I saw them when they pulled it out of the rack. $14.99, which is surprisingly expensive for a game so old, but well worth every penny. Of course, I actually paid squat, since I traded in a couple games. :)

I did, however, replace the ugly American front cover with the proper Japanese one. We got shafted on the cover art for that game.

I haven´t looked for any Shadow Of The Colossus news in a while, but it´s one of the games I´ll definitely get. ICO is awesome too, I have it here but never got to finish.

I guess some puzzles are too hard for me lol, but I´m giving it another try before SOTC's release.

I'm just letting the music play in the background, it's amazing.

Game of The Year?

I think so.

It's so dumb that they don't re-release Ico. When it originally dropped people slept on it, but after it was sold out everywhere people started to realize how much they wanted it. They should re-release dark cloud 2 (dark chronicle) as well.

I was playing the demo last night, this game is going to be awesome!

The graphics are pratically the same as ICO, same lighting effects and all. Now you can rotate the camera with the R3, although the controls were a bit clumsy. But it says this is the E3 demo so it must be better now. 👍

You have a horse to ride, but its controls weren´t that great either on the demo. You also have a sword, which you can use not just to fight, but as a guide too. By pressing circle you raise the sword up, and you move it around to see where the sun beam is pointing to. Of course you have to be on a sunny place to do that. You can also do this to find the enemie's weak point, very useful.

And fighting the giant....wow! At first you keep thinking "how the hell can I put this thing down?", but after you find out its weakness and beat him you wish the demo was longer.

Anyway, the game looks great and I wish the full version was out already! It will surely be one of the best games of the year.

Sorry, but this game completely blows. It's horrible. Here's why. The camera, graphics and the controls.

First, the graphics. They aren't the best that I've seen on the PS2. MGS3 is so much better, and so is GT4 which are the two greatest graphic games for the PS2 that I have. OK, the graphics aren't bad either, but I was expecting it to be better.

Next, the camera. I hope you don't get motion sickness very easily, because you're gonna get sick with this game if you do. Why the hell would they make it so the camera needs to be held along with moving the character? Stupid! I don't wanna be a "camera man" while I'm playing as a fantasy Japanese teenage warrior trying to get his princess back! Really, a stupid idea. Whats worse, if you do not hold the camera still, it moves to a position that leaves you completely blind to the action. Especially during the most action filled time in the game. Fighting the colossi. When you let go of the camera, it moves quickly out of position, and when you lightly touch the camera controls, it quickly moves around into position, making you feel very sick after just a view minutes of moving it around. It's also kind of funny how a giant beast just completely disappears from thin air the moment you let the camera go. Like the idiot character you control wouldn't want to face directly at it at the moment of battle. Stupid! But, the camera is not the worst thing about this game.

Lastly, what makes this a horrible game are the controls. Holy crap, are they horrible! Make a movement, and it takes the character 1.2 to 3 seconds to move. This is not a precise action video game. What's so horrible about that is, you need precise movements at the correct time in order to complete a specific task! Wow, stupid game design, if you ask me. And talk about frustration! If you get frustrated easily, stay away from this game. There is a time in the demo when you need to climb the colossi's leg. That doesn't seem to difficult, but with lously controls, and an idiot camera system, you're stuck with a character who just appears to "hump" the leg, instead of climb it. I swear, why wife came in hearing loud thrusting moans like, "Uh! Uh! Ah! Ah! Oh!," over and over again, and she had to come in to see what the hell I was playing. She saw me on the leg and said, "What the hell are you doing to that guy's leg?!?" I said, "Trying to climb the ******* thing! But the idiot keeps jumping off!" Yep, the controls are so bad, there is little difference from jumping straight up, to jumping to the side. Since the camera keeps moving, it's impossible to tell where you need to point the left control stick to get that idiot to jump straight up. If that's not bad enough, you need to stab the colossi in the calf to disable it, so you can reach two things you need to grap. Yeah, easier said than done. The idiot often falls if you press the attack button. You need to do it at the correct time, several times, to get this task done. Again, with lousy game movements, and horrible control feedback, it's a lot easier said than done. Beyond stupid.

These game faults take a lot of getting use to. I didn't want to bother. You might. So, would it be a great game if it wasn't for the lousy camera and controls? You bet. The graphics, as I said before, aren't great, but there aren't bad. The reason the graphics aren't as great as I expected is due to the amount of what's on the screen. It is breath-taking. This game does look fantastic with the beautiful images and terrific lighting. The game, overal, is to bright or washed out, but there are brightness controls in game to fix that. The music is also fantastic, very dramatic and proper for a mythical Japanese warrior game. If you can get past the terrible controls that leave you beyond frustrated and a camera system that makes you want to vomit, this will be a great game for you.

What exactly are you looking for in the camera, SL? Because I've had zero problems with the camera myself. If you don't touch it at all, it sits pretty much exactly where you need it to.. behind the character, just like every other third-person adventure game out there. The only time I've ever moved the camera is when I want to look around.

The controls are a little loose here and there, but that's been tightened up since the demo was made. If you want to jump straight up, just push the jump button.. he jumps straight up by default. You only need to "aim" him if you're jumping in a different direction. As for the slow response time, that's simply realism. A real person doesn't go from a standstill to a sprint in one frame of animation like a normal video game character does. As for "falling off if you push the attack button", that only happens if you let go of the "grip" button... if the character lets go of the Colossus, what do you expect to happen?

I haven't had a single problem with the demo. The few gripes I do have are already fixed in later builds of the game (framerate, pop-in, etc).

I think the game is pretty good. They worked a lot in the animation part & camera. There's a lot of sparking effect in Shadow of the colossus. In big, the graphic is pretty impressive once you reach the horse & see the golem.

The main goal of the game is to kill some golems around & to woke up is girl... O_o

*The button to climb is R1(make the character grip to the edge). You have to press it once you jump.

9,7 on IGN! :D

I want it!

Edit:
IGN
Will Everyone Appreciate It?
Shadow of the Colossus is one of those rare games that most everyone can appreciate in some fashion, but may not quite be everyone's cup of tea in the end. It's not as action-oriented as something like God of War, though it's easily its equal in terms of presentation and art direction. And while Shadow may not have the namesake or be as directly relatable as a Grand Theft Auto title, it easily trumps them in terms of the emotional experiences you'll take from it.

Really, if you look at it from a very fact-based standpoint then the game doesn't break down into much more than climbing a giant creature and stabbing it repeatedly until it's dead. But when you stand back and take in the game as a whole, it excels in virtually every way possible.

It's not that Shadow of the Colossus isn't something that any gamer who is interested in it will enjoy, because they will, and thoroughly so, but it might not be one of those titles you can pass off to your ADD-suffering little cousin. But not every game is made for the Ritalin generation, Shadow of the Colossus being one of them. In fact, it's a game that rewards you for taking a chance and seeking out new experiences, and in these ways and what it'll give back to you for doing so, it's a phenomenal success.

I played it last night.

Oh my...

Absolutely stunning. It is the best looking PS2 game out right now. This will probably be the last great PS2 title. Get it now.

I personally still think God of War is better looking and has more of a "wow" factor, but this game is still great. One thing that was frustrating is the camera angles. Since you're so small compared to each Colossus, it's hard to get a better view of where you should move.

I started playing it last night and I killed 4 Giants so far. The game is pretty good, but I thought it would be harder. I hope it gets harder from now on, or I´ll finish the game very quickly.

The graphics are the same as ICO's, maybe a bit more polished. But at least this one doesn´t have all those loadings ICO has. And although the graphics are great I'll agree with spoony here, it didn´t make me "WOW" like God Of War did.

Another feature they took from ICO is the talking. It´s still the same made up language from the first game, you have to read the subtitles to understand what they´re saying.

Controls improved a bit from the demo, it´s much easier to aim the bow now. But some things are annoying, like mounting the horse. The camera gets in your way often when fighting the Colossus also, I'll try to invert the vertical axis tonight and see if it gets better.

I also thought you would have to travel a lot and would get stuck with some puzzles on your way to the monsters, but so far they were all near the castle and I didn't have much trouble finding them. But yeah, fighting those things is pretty cool and each one requires a different approach, but it's not the b3st g4me evah as some people on web forums keep saying.

Well, like Ico before it, the whole "best game ever" thing comes at the end. To be honest, I'm in it for the story, not the action.

Right now, I'm at "Fifteen down, one to go". I got a look at Evis tonight, but then I died most horribly. You want hard? Evis (#16, the last one) will whip your ass twelve ways to Sunday, believe you me.

But yes, they do get "harder" as they progress. They become much tricker to mount.. once you're on, they're all about the same, but actually getting on is the hard part.
