Is the game that short that you're already at the final boss?? :(

Why not? It's just the bosses, you know.. there are no levels, there are no other enemies, no puzzles or other "normal game" BS to get in the way. Just the Colossi.

Actually, the fact that I've had the game nearly a week and haven't beaten it yet is unusual.. on the other forums I visit, there are dozens of people that finished it within the first day or two.

Is it really such a surprise? I mean, if you know what you're doing, you can plow through Ico in about three or four hours. And yet it's still considered one of the best PS2 games ever made. Just because a game's short doesn't mean it sucks.

And yes, FatAss, there are sixteen of them.

I don´t like very long games actually. Eight to twelve hours is good enough for me. I was just playing it, killed two more Colossus (or was it three, can´t remember). Anyway, I stopped at the lake one, it just killed me so I decided to stop for tonight. I only died twice so far by the way, and both times it was for lack of patience. I could've just waited a while so my life bar would fill up.

Hmm, sixteen eh... the more, the better! :D

Got the demo yesterday finally got to play it tonight and  if gamestop was still open I'd go there now and buy it.

I finished the game yesterday, saved with 11+ hours, but 3 of those hours were just for the last couple of Colossus and one hour for the final scenes and credits.

I think I spent almost 2 hours fighting the last one, but it was one of my favorites fights in the game. The hard part wasn't the actual fight, he only killed me once in fact. But to find out how to get to him, then how to climb on him, and finally what to do once you're up there is what took me some time to figure.

What can I say about the game? It's not perfect, but it's a very original concept, just like ICO was. And I may be trying the hard mode soon if I'm not busy with other games.

I'd give it a 9.3 out of 10.

I find this game glorious in its simplicity.
The challenge of finding/defeating these behemoths is fantastic.
If there were other "people" to talk to, smaller beasties to defeat while travelling etc. would take away from the experience rather than add to it.
The games mythical glory in knowing its just you vs. these colossi out there somewhere makes for a really compelling experience.
Lets hope for a sequel!

I haven´t looked for any Shadow Of The Colossus news in a while, but it´s one of the games I´ll definitely get. ICO is awesome too, I have it here but never got to finish.

I guess some puzzles are too hard for me lol, but I´m giving it another try before SOTC's release.

Now that you've finished SOTC, just play ICO again. You definitely have to finish it, and then finish it a second time. 👍

The PAL release of SOTC is planned for Feb. 2006... :(
Almost 3 months to wait 👎

Viper Zero
This will probably be the last great PS2 title. Get it now.

I dunno, with MGS: Subsistence, Dirge of Cereberus, FF:XII, Kingdom Hearts 2, and a few other games coming out soon, I think it will be AMONG the last of the greatest PS2 titles, but it's definately not the last.

Dragon Quest is better than this BTW, lol. IMO at least.

SOTC was great, it was just too dull in between, they needed to add more content between boss fights, something to drive it, just going boss after boss after boss got bland. Still a great choice game though

Subsistence? Nah, I already have MGS3. I think FF:XII is a disappointment waiting to happen. It looks like FF:X, Square needs to do more than just make another FF game.

Besides those games, I can't think of anything else.

I just killed the 10th colossus. Only six more to go...

Online will make Subsistence an entirely different game, dont' judge like that.

FFXII is great, I've played it and it's VASTLY different from any FF you've ever played.

Dragon Quest is published by SE (Square Enix) and it's a great RPG, obviously you haven't even thought about giving it a shot.

Dirge of Cereberus will be a cool game, even if only for the story.

Kingdom Hearts 2 is published by SE and looks VERY promising visually and as far as gameplay.

Keep up on what you're talking about, PS2 still has some great titles releaseing, as well as another rumored Tekken Release, which may or may not see PS2 action (definately will be in arcade in a month).

flat-out

I actually finished ICO a couple of months before the release of SOTC, you quoted an old post of mine. ;) Both games are great, and knowing ICO's story helps you to understand (or try to understand) the end in SOTC.

And how come we have a mod I never saw before? :P

I'm a mod since I took over the WRS stewardship (link in my sig) on Nov. 1st.
And you don't know me because the last time I posted outside the WRS forum was in the summer 2004 :D

Did you finish ICO twice ?
I found that the second game was slightly different than the first one. Since you already know the story you can look at it in a different way and see some aspects you had missed the first time.
...and there is the Jedi sword. :sly:

I finished ICO only once, maybe I'll play it again when I have the time. I also want to play SOTC again eventually.

I just got this game and the WOW factor is huge.

I didn't expect the monsters to be THAT huge.
Couple of small problems though, they should have tried to keep smooth fps instead of the norm, not too big a problem. The other one is that I need a tv compatible with progressive scan :D

I'm suddenly uber-interested in this game. I may either buy it or rent it tonight... needless to say I'm very excited. If any one ruins the ending, they die! That's the whole point of me playing, I'm in Jedi's camp. It's like a good movie :).

If you like to play a game through only once you should consider just renting it. You can finish SOTC in about 10/12 hours.

Well, this guy can finish much quicker apparently. These videos are awesome, it took me almost 2 hours to kill the last boss and he does it in 3 minutes. Damn him!

Link.

Each yellow link is a boss, in the order of the game.

I watched almost all the videos and... WOW. This guy has some skill/free time.

I'll try to revive this thread because it's such a good game.

So what's you favorite/least favorite colossus?
1. #13 The 2 km long flying snake. Easy but so much fun and really epic too.
2. #15 The Giant Ogre in the colosseum. Had to work to figure this one out but it was really fun.
3. #5 The first flying bird. I loved to jump and try to stay on him while he was in the sky.
4. #3 The tall guy with his sword. Was really fun to climb him.
5. #8The lizard that climbed on the wall and then you shot his hands and he fell. Was pretty fun too.
6. #1 Really a good way to start a game. With a big mean boss.
7. #9 The big turtle with the geyser. This one was hard but really fun once you figured it out.
8. #10 The snake in the sand. Was pretty cool to see him come out of nowhere and chase you.
9. #14 The Lion in the jungle. I liked the puzzle that was implented in the fight.
10. #12 The big thing in the water. I liked the strategy in it but I didn't really like to fight it, but he looked really mean.
11. #7 The eel. First underwater fight and I got frustrated because I didn't know you could destroy his electric spikes.
12. #6 The bearded ogre. He was cool but very stupid. Too easy.
13. #11 The tiger scared of fire. He was okay, but he wasn't big enough.
14. #2 Easy but a cool second boss.
15. #16 Meh... for a last boss, I think he sucked. He didn't move of his pillar. And just shot you with energy bullets. I would have loved something more fun like a big dragon or something.
16. #4 I didn't like this one. because you just waited for it to show youhis head and then you just climbed on his head and killed it.
So what are your favorite/least favorite boss?
