MONEY DOESN'T BUY HAPPINESS - DOH!
I had been playing GT4 for about 3 weeks and was getting along fine except
for a cronical need to mod every car to win races. Then I won the Camaro LM
Race Car and took it to a few races and had no problem winning. Granted, the
other cars were no competition but it made me think about my 'wasteful'
ways... I was spending about 100k in mods per car and only using it for a
few races. The visits to the ATM were quite frequent. I had won almost 2
million credits but never had more than 30k in the bank. And I was only at
13%!!!
I finally hit the crisis point when I did the classic series in the Pro
Hall. I souped up the Cougar to the point where it outperformed the Cobra
and Buick Special but I had the hardest time beating them at the Ring. I did
manage to beat the Cobra once but it was a practice run and not part of the
Championship. I ran the championship and the only race I didn't win with the
Cougar was the Ring. The Cobra kicked my ass badly...
So I won the championship but it was bitter-sweet: I blew so much money on
upgrades to win at the Ring and in the end I didn't. If it wasn't because I
run so many practice runs at the Ring (finishing 2nd) I would have actually
lost money in the Championship. I didn't sleep well that night...
When I woke up in the morning I was having a full blown Scrooge attack: I
could not get over how much money I'd blown and whenever I thought of a race
I'd won I thought "I didn't need to buy that car" or "I coulda won without
the 200HP mods!". By the end of the day Scrooge had taken over.
SCROOGE'S BIG ADVENTURE BEGINS
The first mandate from Scrooge was to start over. That was a hard decision
to make: I was at 13% and it had taken a couple of weeks and a lot of money
to get there. I wasn't looking forward to re-doing any of the rally license
tests (I suck at rallying) but I was so hooked on mods that most of the
races were 10 pts or less and that was getting pretty boring : I was mowing
the grass in every race but still managed to win thanks to HP superiority.
I also did some research on the boards and found that someone went up to
62.5% without buying a car. Scrooge was very happy to hear about that! The
guy had spent about 2,000,000 cr tunning his cars, something Scrooge wasn't
happy about. But after confirming that there is no way to do 100% without
buying a car Scrooge decided to delude himself into thinking that he could
do 62.5% without tuning any cars.
So the memory card was erased and Scrooge went on the biggest adventure of
his driving life!
THE PLAN
Scrooge wasn't too keen on having to re-do the license tests. He was
perfectly happy with the 80 bronze medals from the first gamesave. So after
reading the prize and events list from top to bottom a few times he
concluded that getting silver in all the licenses was gonna give him the
easiest way out (of the license tests) whilst still getting good enough
cars.
But at the same time he didn't want to spend a lot of time on the license
tests so he decided that he was going to do as little work on them as
possible. This meant getting a bronze, winning a car and taking that car to
as many races as it qualified for until it was not possible to win any other
races. Then he would go back to licenses / missions to win another car or
use whatever car he'd won with the first car and repeat the cycle.
THE RULES
1. No car buying.
2. No car tuning: No new tires, car washes, oil changes, nothing! This is
Scrooge we are talking about!!!
3. Each race can only be won once. Unless it is part of a championship in
which case it can be won once as practice and once as part of the
championship. Once the race is won it is history, we have no time to waste
here!
4. There is NO SHAME in running 1 pt races. Scrooge believes that if you
have a car that can win the race and it does not cost you anything then you
should use it. A-Spec points be dammed!
5. No Wallriding, grass mowing or purposely pusing other cars off the road.
6. Qualifying is permitted for championships.
