i was just bummin around, couldnt find anything interesting to do so i thought id set up a few cars for a 0-400 test. After getting my RX-7 Spirit A R Type A '02 down to 8.569secs.. an idea hit me. What if there was a weekly test/series if u want to call it that which every week gave you a car and you had to tune it to the finest degree, fastest time wins?? Unfortunately i dont have the time to set up or run a weekly thing like this but if someone else where to take up the role id gladly help out.. just an idea... what do ya think??

ps... my bad if this is in the wrong spot!

Naw, I think you're in the right section...and uhm..that would be friggin awesome...I don't have the stuff you'd need to hold something like that every week, but it'd be damn fun.

has anyone got the time and the passion (lol) to give this ago and get it up and running?? if push comes to shuv and a lot of people are keen then i'll start it up for a lil' while until a replacement is found

If you find people to want to do this, I'll consider running it.

It sounds good, but I think you'd have to set some strict rules like:

  • Set the model of car
  • Set the tires to be used
  • Set the mods allowed
  • Maybe set whether the driver can use the aids or not, I think it would be best to have the TCS off.

I think the emphasis will have to be put on the driver, not on the car, so cheapish cars with basic mods would be best. Maybe a stage 2 turbo on S2 tires and that's all. Something like that? :)

How do you feel about stuff like that?

maybe 2 classes per week... full blown with the works... at maybe a cash limit, say $50,000, i dunno.... but we need to get some more people imterested before we go ahead

Rules for a successful Drag Series.

1. Be annoying, post places and get people interested. Don't be too annoying though
2. Set some strict rules, and punishments for not following said rules.
3. Be professional.

I think this would be a great series. Me and my bud "darkwind" here at the forum have been competing with the Ford RS200. I read that it was the fastest production car around and we experimented. So far after about 2 days of off-and-on tuning (we both work at the same place so we didn't have all day), he got his under ten seconds and I've gotten mine at about 10.2 for the 400m.

The best part about this is that the RS200 is a prize car and it already comes with semi-racing suspension and intake/exhaust parts. The only thing you can really do to it is upgrade the tranny to full-custom, add better tires, and reduce the weight. The VCD and chassis stiffener could be optional. I think this would be a great car to use as the series opener!

Unfortunately, like you, I don't have the time to run this. :(

I'm going to leave this here until interest is up enough that a move to the "Long Race Series" forum wouldn't kill the series.

Fact is, you are in the wrong forum.

It's ok though.

However, just for the record.

" Official GTP Competitions
This is the forum for all discussions relating to series, challenges, or competitions officially sanctioned by GTPlanet.net. "

That's not there just to look cool. ;)

Unless this Weekly Drag Series was cleared with a moderator or administrator, I would say you have not been "sanctioned."

No problem though, like I said, we will get this thing moved into the "Long Race Series" Forum. :D

Good luck with the racing.
And remember, next time you want to start an "Official GTP" competition, ask first!

Good idea!

I use the 400m, 1000m, and high speed track to set up transmissions and suspensions on a regular basis. It's fairly easy to find 2 or 3 tenths of a second on starts from a standstill. And getting the time between the 400m and 1000m marks is a great way to find a gear setting that will take off another tenth or two.

Hope the series happens!

You may have some success if you run the same car as the WRS. Then the regulars on the WRS would be able to get some setup time at the drag strip and then use their findings in the WRS.

I would LOVE to do this. If it's weekly I would have no problem running the event. Currently my favorite thing to do is building up dragsters(I don't want to do the rallys). I've gotten my Viper to do an 8.633 with the stock tranny, it runs 9.121 without nitrous, and I'm working on getting it faster.

If this is just a weekly event then I could handle running it. We'd need at least 5-10 people interested minimum, but more people would come over time.

I don't know, 8 sounds good to me. With those odds I might actually have a chance of winning something.

To drum up support, you could slot a couple of sneaky posts here and there. Photo comps, WRS etc... Of course you run the risk of getting flamed to all hell and possibly banned, or having the competition shut down, :nervous: but it'll be one way to make people aware... ;)

Famous people didn't get famous without promoting themselves.

I say go promote! lol

i would love to drag race

an idea to keep everything equal would be to possibly bracket race
set up diff classses with certain restrictions/cars and make everyone choose a dial in time the day or week before competition and then race and who ever gets back closet is winner of that class

Good idea, but I think a better idea is for most races is to do choose a car and then let you guys all go at it, instead of doing multiple things at once...

I'll love to do this I got my Ford Gt down to 8.75 just a few days ago I even have a picture to prove it, so this is what u can do take pictures of our time or even videos

Good job.
However the scoreboard is usually pretty inaccurate so I, myself, would not count it as proof. Hell, I've seen pics where the scoreboard said ".6" or something ludicrous like that. I wouldn't throw out an entry though because all they can supply is a pic. I would consider proof as a replay, but I'm not gonna force you guys to buy maxdrives...

Hmm, I aso like the sound of this. Provides a nice contrast and occasional break between race events.

So is it happening or has the idea burnt out a little? Seems some time has passed since the idea was put fourth.

I'd be up for this too. I just wouldn't have the time to run the thing. Even if I had the time, I wouldn't know how. But if someone gets it going, count me in.

I'm new here, but I'd definitely be interested in running drag races with you guys. As people have said before, we should have limitations on how much HP, weight, and what settings we can tweak. Here are some suggestions though:

  • Only run a specific gerne (sports, super sports, supercar, ect.)
  • Certian setting can be tweaked while others have to be left alone.
  • Someone said this, but put a limit on how much you can spend (for car + parts)
  • Choose tires (which someone already said too)
  • Finally, a deadline... like when the times have to be in by.

These are only suggestions though. :) Hope you guys like them.

is this up and running? i think that the only limits should be on the model of car you use and the let people choose a different type of that car for example just say skyline, then everyone has to pick a skyline from any age (has to be road going) it would be interesting to see which type of skyline is fastest, also let poeple tune it differently as shuving everything on the car isnt always the fastest way for example the stage 4 turbo isnt as good for 0-400 times. a limit on money could be good as this would make people tune it differently.
