CHANGE OF FORMAT
The format hasn't actually changed but rather than doing a single post at 75% Scrooge will be making multiple posts in this thread as he progresses towards 75%
A BIRD IN THE HAND
Scrooge was getting a little bored with the racing as most of what he had available to him was rallying and he thinks it is the equivalent of writing a letter by hand: "You can do it but the trusty old 286 computer with WordPerfect 5.1 I got from the reject bin at the GoodWill better be beyond repair before I sit down and write a letter by hand!". So he took a break from rallying only to find himself facing the prospect of doing 3 endurance races of which the shortest one was 4 hours (and he did not have a car for it).
He decided to 'go for broke' (sort of :-) ) and buy a car to 'spice things up'. After lots of research he bought an 89 Mazda MX5. "What is better than killing two birds with one stone?" he asked his image on the bathroom mirror. "Killing THREE birds with one stone" he said to his reflection smirkily. With a couple of upgrades it would be enough to beat the Roadster 4 hours, Japan 80's Festival and the MX5 NA-R cup. He almost managed it if not for Suzuka (80's Festival) where the competition 'Is definitely on NOS' as he puts it.
AN OLD FRIEND RETIRES
With the advent of the last endurance race Scrooge said goodbye to his friend Bob Cratchit. His driving contract was only for the Endurance races and that is all he had driven so far. Although his record had a positive balance (9 unassisted races) it was not without blemish. On his last race (Sarthe II)he did OK but it was nothing to brag about. Scrooge felt nostalgic and put differences aside to let Bob drive the last 20 minutes of the race (Bob had driven the first 9.5 hours and lost 3.7 laps in the process). And Bob crossed the finished line and drove into the sunset....
RALLY, RALLY, RALLY!
Not having much choice of races before either buying snow tires or another car Scrooge decided to face the music and do the rest of the dirt rallies. It wasn't much fun at the beginning and just as he was getting the handle of the S4 it was all over, except for the Grand Canyon HARD races. Getting whopped by 44 seconds on his first attempt he decided to take a breather and maybe go straight into the snow races....
100k GOES A LONG WAY, EVEN IN THIS DAY AND AGE
Even though he had spent some money unnecessarily, Scrooge felt good about being able to get (almost) to 60% on less than 100k credits. He got to 59.5% on 94,469 credits. With only two races left to run (Grand Canyon HARD) before buying snow tires, another car or modding the heck out of the Corvette convertible he decided it was a good enough effort and throw a party. He went all out and even opened a bottle of $4 Cherry he'd been saving for an occasion like this!
AN OLD FRIEND 'UNRETIRES'
Scrooge finally got into the extreme hall only to be greeted by a bunch of long races during the F1 championship. So he made a quick call to Bob Cratchit, who was bored to dead at home and jumped at the opportunity to drive again. He was a little rusty but willing to do the hard work and let Scrooge do as little work as possible. It didn't work out in all the races but he sure had a lot of fun (and managed to stay sober and shave for a week!). He said it was nice not to be a 'has-been' for a while...
BAH HUMBUG! THEY WON'T LET ME GET TO 75%!!!
Scrooge was annoyed for a few days after he found out that he would probably not to make it to 75% having spent less than 150k all up. He had a few races that he hadn't won but at 71.9% he was going to need more than a few to reach 75%. He could do the Ice races but that entailed a 20k+ purchase of snow tires and would still not get him to 75% (only to 73.5) and would put him pretty much put him over the 150k mark. He moped around in a deep depression and Ms. Nevershops had to get his therapist to pay him a house visit. After a few very long session (which he convinced his therapist to do pro-bono) he finally got himself to formulate a plan. His new goal was to get to 75% spending as little as possible over 150k. That meant leaving the ice races for later. Of course he was aware he'll have to spend that money anyway... but at least he had something to look for and Ms. Nevershops was happy he was bathing again!
