I see a lot of ppl here are using N tires, but I think R tires would produce more smoke. what do you think, which tires will produce the most smoke?

Wouldnt this depend on the compound. I am no expert, but i would have thought that the softer the rubber the more smoke it would produce when it started to slide. More grip would be more friction so more smoke when it starts sliding.

If someone else has a better theory then theirs is probably correct.

Well. i would presume all tires would produce the same amount of smoke. then again im probably wrong..

And everyone uses N1's,2's,3's because its suited to their ability to drift, not because of the amoutn of smoke they produce.

Have you tested this yourself?, If so.. announce your conclusion.

From my own tests, I think R compounds produce more smoke. I can get a decent amount of smoke with S and N tires. I don't see a big diff between S and N. What do you think?

This poll is kinda irrelavant because if you are spinning the tires or sliding with high angle they will all produce the same amount of smoke. So I dunno, I just don't get it I guess. :dunce:

It all depends on the amount of power to tire compound you are using... a 550hp car on sports, will kick up the same amount of smoke as a 260hp car on N tires...

yep, it's all about angle and power in relation to the tire compound.

Funny to see this topic come up again.

the amount of smoke really seems to have more dependence on the track, than the tire choice.

compare EC to HSR
EC has gobs and gobs, HSR has next to none - this is true for any car, any setup, any tire

Go for the R5 super-soft, max weight in the ass, more revs of the tires, meaning, kick it sideways in 6th, try to keep 'er goin, all of this coupled with the impeccable graphics should provide for a good experience. :)

I also think that r tires can produce more smoke.

Think all you like... The tire compound matters not, in GT4... It depends on the amount of power you have compared to the type of tire, weight of the vehicle, track type (elevation, turn camber, etc...)

;)

eh, it is the track that matters not. Think about it, you burn rubber, not the track, on concrete or macadam, it just takes longer to get smoke, tire temp is the big thing, you have to have a high temp to burn rubber. so a soft compund will heat really quick, and stay heated, thus, more smoke. :) g'day

The track matters a lot... The type of turns (camber of turns) can do a lot towards increasing or decreasing the amount of speed you can take through a corner, and puting more or less pressure on the tires, making it harder to spin the tires... Now, if you're just sitting in place, or doing burnouts, sure the track doesn't matter, but doing a succesful drift around the entire corner is limited by the track layout, tire type, and power/weight of the vehicle... The tire type ALONE doesn't matter.. It's a combination of elements that determines how much smoke can be made... It also depends quite a bit on your style... How you initiate and control your drifts (high angle, low angle)...

doesnt really matter in gt4 seeeing how the smoke dissapears after at most a second

but in real life i dont know if they make tires that produce more smoke, however I do know there are tires being developed that produce colored smoke, if anyone wanted to know.

In real life the tire compound does indeed matter... D1GP drifters use soft compounds to produce more heat, and thus more smoke... It just doesn't matter as much in GT4...

Colored smoke?... Great, that's what we need... 👎

Hey, they have colored tire wax. So, you could put it on the treads of your tire and probably do it now. LOL. :yuck:

when u look out your back window on a rally course u have a HUGE cloud of smoke behind you..

when u fire up your escudo it also gives a little cloud of smoke from standing start on a racing course.

so my test is try this:

escudo with n1 and r5 tires and look with one gives the most

1.
rally cars on rally course gives the most smoke/dirt cloud
2.
Your own test

To me, its more wheelspin that kicks out more smoke. You ever see the Blitz ER34 in action IRL, like the D1GP vs US last December? It kicked out so much smoke because the wheels where constantly slipping. I dont know how to explain these things very well. In conclusion, its wheelspin that kicks out more smoke.

I also agree with Delphic Reason on his post. Wheelspin does create a lot of heat.
