engine displacement increase- ?

just wondering how many cars can have their engine displacement increased under the engine modifications options.
the option almost always seems to be blocked out when i go to make engine changes. i think i was able to use it once but it was so long ago i have forgotten what it was in.
is there any logic to the range of cars it can be used on, ie; small capacity, four cyls, v8's etc.
anyone done a list ?

hmm... off the top of my head, i know for sure that most--if not all--Skylines accept that modification... Civic EG and EKs take them... *EPs, too...? i forget about those... not many models take them, though... for some reason, not many muscle-cars take this upgrade, which struck me as odd... :dunce:

As far as I know, all Skylines can't take the displacement increase. There is some little FF car that can take it too, too bad I can't remember what it was.

Many newer skylines can... Haven't seen it available on an FF car yet... I've got only two or three Civics, though... anybody?

definitely the EG and EK Civics... hmm--i really need to check the game to make sure about the newest Type R Civic.. the one i typo'd up there by calling it an EG again... ah yes--the EP..? i need to check... :dunce:

I actually think one of the Fiat 500's can have it done, but I need to check this. BUt yes, there is a little slow can that can have this mod. I should say it is NOT limited to Skylines, that may have been the case in GT3 (the Mini I think was the only exception) but GT4 has more cars having this mod. It seems odd though, since in real life displacement increase can be done to any car really - shorter con rods for example. Increasing the bore is not normally able to give large changes.

One does wonder though, that there is no single car in GT3/4 that can have every single modification available. Skylines and Mitsubishi Evo 7/8s are joint equal on the highest number possible.

Evos you wouldn't be able to supercharge... but you should be able to do everything to a Toyota 4AGE or a Honda B16/18 etc... and to any muscle engine, for that matter.

Shortening the connecting rods won't increase the displancement. You'd have to increase the stroke, likely by undercutting the crank or simply installing a stroker crank. But boring is the cheapest way to do it if your engine can take it.

But most Japanese engines can't be bored out that much... probably why Polyphony skipped on this for Muscle Engines, because Japanese disp.up kits often use "stroker" components, and they couldn't find these for non-Japanese engines? Weird...

Yeah,it woud be nice to have a list, tough, anyone have spare time? :)

im not 100% sure but i think i did a displacement increase with a supra in the past. i'll have to go back to the game and check it out to be sure.

It's Groundhog Day all over again, that's what.

In the GT series, only Civics and Skylines have been able to get the increase; there's a few cars here and there (Mini and 240ZG) that could also get it. But it's been totally under-utilized in all the GT game, although I can understand why it's not available for pure racing cars.

I used the Displacement Up option on the yellow '91 Civic Si the other day, the first GT4 car I've used it on so far.

throttlehappy
just checked
you cant stroke a supra rz

yeh u are right, i checked both the turbo and non turbo. im pretty sure ive done it with another car but the skyline. im going to check in GT3 to see if it will accept it.

NISMO and Mugen have the stroker kits for their perspective cars. For the others; there are other companies that can make stroker kits, but they are outside of (car) manufacturer approval. Ironically TommyKaira makes a stroker kit for Subaru's EJ20 (2.2 liter) that is not offered in the game.

You can do it on the Fiat 500 L and F. Maybe the R as well, I'm not sure. Maybe you can also do it with the classic Mini as well (and possibly the Marcos as a result).
