Maranello Masterpiece
Ferrari 599 GTB will be automaker's most-powerful V12 production car ever
Source: www.autoweek.com

Ferrari is giving birth to yet another Maranello masterpiece, a vehicle it calls the most powerful V12-engined production car it has ever produced.

Called the 599 GTB, the new car is a combination of Ferrari's most innovative and technologically advanced engineering solutions applied to a mid-front engined, two-seat configuration.

The 599, which will replace the the 575M Maranello in the automaker's lineup, boasts class-leading power thanks to its 5,999cc V12 taken from the Enzo which cranks out 620 hp. The car will reportedly also be available with a six-speed manual transmission in addition to the automaker's sequential manual gearbox.

The Pininfarina design gives the Ferrari 559 GTB aggressive yet elegant lines and the body and chassis feature the latest evolution of Ferrari's aluminium construction technology.

599 represents the latest interpretation of a theme that has been seen on classic Ferraris such as the 250 GT, the 275 GTB, and the 365 GTB4.

The car is set to be officially unveiled at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show at the end of February.

That design is soooo not attractive...

How can they get down to such crap when they used to create masterpieces like this:

Must be more or less based on the 612 Scaglietti design, right? I like it as a car, but not as a Ferrari! Seems like the italians have looked a bit too much on the british cardesigns of late (read: Aston Martin). Like Carl said; Ferrari have done alot better! Brutal engine though.

The single brake lamp on each side is really un-Ferarri like. :indiff: Not to mention unattractive.

“What should we make the wheels look like?”
“I know, let’s make them stars! Like, stars go fast, right?”

Well, it's not a first:

That said, I totally agree about the unattractiveness. GM, Ford and Chrysler are currently way better at doing retro-inspired designs than Pininfarina. (so are VW, BMW (Mini), and Lamborghini)

+1 Only new Ferrari worth a damn is the F430...everything else sucks in the design department. And yes I include the Enzo--it't not designed to look good it's designed to be a track car with perfect aerodynamics.

Driftster
C6 Meets Scagli

Ferrari would drool to design something that looks as good as the new C6. All new Ferrari designs look like ass minus the F430.

I think they're reminiscent of the Testarossa.

I agree, Ferrari's modern designs aren't very, well...Ferrari-ish. I think the Enzo actually has the most Ferrari in it, but otherwise, the Scaglietti is just frumpy, the F430 is a 360 that's been re-designed by a German, and this thing is...I don't know.

I mean, I like the way the F430 and Enzo look, and I really like this 599. But they just aren't Ferraris.

How can this be the most powerful production Ferrari V12 ever if the Enzo has 660bhp and this has 620bhp?

Anyway, I don't like the looks of this, and think the back looks like a Hyundai Coupe.

It does look a bit anonymous. And by that I mean a bit like a lot of other GT sportscars out there.

I don't think Ferrari will ever do a car as cool as the F40 again.

Maybe the fact that the Enzo was a limited run disqualifies it...?

Ferrari isn't known for being logical in their claims...like when they announced the Superamerica was "the world's fastest convertible."

Well, the Radical SR8 holds the Production Lap Record at the Nurburgring and I doubt more than a few of those have been produced. AFAIK, 399 Enzos were built.

It could just be another incorrect claim by Ferrari or a mix-up in the press office I suppose.

I quite like it, but i'm not keen on those 'star-of-david' wheels - all those shots of it are from a high-up perspective, i'd like to see some other pictures of it.

Indeed, the Enzo certainly qualifies for "production" by standard terms, but perhaps the whole limited-run thing is why Ferrari excluded it. After all, what better way to introduce a new sports-GT than by saying, "It's the most powerful one we've made yet!"

Okay, I don't like the 575M's design either, but at least it was cohesive. This just looks like they came up with a random list of design ideas and put them all on a Panoz Esperante (which isn't good looking to begin with).

The Star of David has 6 points, those are pentagrams.

Ugly. Ferrari's design has been going backwards since the F430 IMO.
I think they have been going backwards since the 360.

I think they have been going backwards since the 360.

Indeed. The only modern Ferrari I didn't like prior to the 360 is the Mondial. After that I'm at best, indifferent to them.

Whoops - thats what I meant. Got mixed up a little. Yeap, the last beautiful Ferrari was the 360. Ferrari needs to make a car that is beautiful at all angles and not just certain... *cough F430*, and now this? Sheesh. Though I must admit that my opinions might change if I ever get to see it in flesh...!

That has to be one of the, if not the best Ferrari ive ever seen.

This new one aint half bad though.

I actually like this car a lot! Its certainly not crazy enough looking (not wedgey enough) to have the pentagram wheels, but I don't see any great concern with Ferrari's design direction (although I hate the SuperAmerica and the Enzo). But that's coming from someone who actually liked the 612!

This new car isn't gonna be a classic, but it certainly looks very nice.

I can't help it but I like the overall design of this new Ferrari:) but I'm not a ferrari fan, so I really do't care how it looks.

Looks like the designer of the 599 looked at the Scaglietti and thought: "Nice!" Not a pretty looking car at all. I agree with live4speed and under18carbon here, Ferrari have really gone backwards since the 360.

Nice engine though.

This car looks like an overdesigned Scaglietti. The brilliance of the design of classic Ferraris lies in their simplicity; they never had lots of lines and curves running all over the place (With the exception of the side of the Testarossa; although those sides undoubtedly worked from a design perspective).

I like it as a car though. How could I possibly hate any sports car with a 600+hp V12? Especially a Ferrari with that sort of engine, I can't wait to hear how this car sounds.

I like the design, no matter what you say! IMO the 612 Scaglietti looks great and that (599 GTB) is basically just a smaller version of the 612 Scaglietti. It looks mean! Though I think the rear would need another pair of lights and possibly a 575 GTC-style rear spoiler. It now looks more like a skijump hill than a car trunk. How I'd do those rear lights would be by adding another pair of those lights under those it has now.
But other than that, it looks great.

At first glance, I was thinking Panoz Esperante as well.
