I heard that this was designed by an american... but I'm not sure.

Japanese actually, his name is Ken Okuyama. As far as I know, he's responsible for the Enzo, 612 Scaglietti, Quattroporte and now this 599 GTB. The F430 was done at Ferrari's studio by Frank Stephenson's team.

How do you figure that, and don't say "cos Fiat own Ferrari", Fiat auto's do not own Ferrari.

Everyone who is surprised raise your hand. Meh, the 575 is probably going to be the last really good looking Ferrari in a while.

Just a bit more info on the Fiat Ferrari situation, theres two companies called Fiat, the Fiat group is not Fiat auto's, yet the Fiat group own Fiat auto's and they also own 56% of Ferrari, Fiat auto's own 0% of Ferrari. A lot of people think Fiat auto's own Ferrari but as you can see, thats not the case.

Steeda
oh i was wrong. they just own 56% of it, or thats the best i could find
Nope. They own 0% of it. Fiat SpA owns 56% of Ferrari. Fiat Auto owns none of it. Similar to how Fuji Heavy Industries owns Subaru.
Eidt: Snap! l4s beat me to it.

Not only is the design bad (tis' ok), but the name is bad.

At least 600 Imola sounded like a fast car...But 599?
Sounds tacky....

BUT I've said it once, and I'll say it again!

Ferrari said this car will succeed the Maranellos in almost every way, and they failed. The engine will be the only thing to success the presence of the Maranello.

The Maranello was and still is, one of the last, most beautiful Ferraris made. It was the true luxury Ferrari before the 612.

Unfornately, this new car will not, imo, success the Maranello style. The design is just too strange with an Elise like front, and a very strange rear, not to mention the wheels.

Where on Earth, as Ferrari's styling gone? The 80's were Ferrari's time, creating the cars of the F40, 288 GTO, Testarossa, and etc.

How can a car like this 599 ever success this?

Ah the 550, 575 whatever the name is the only Ferrari...well besides the Testerossa that I actually like.

Well, I love most of the Ferrari line, but I do agree to a different point that is the Ferrari I would want to own over all others.

It's just a car that's got a nice V12, good power, and good style.:)

Hey, this is the best meeting of the Corvette and an Italian manufactuer since the Bizzarrini 5300GT...

Seriously, cant they just round out the name to 600? 599 seems odd as a car title... I thought they were going to call this one the 600 Imola?

Carl.
That design is soooo not attractive...

How can they get down to such crap when they used to create masterpieces like this:

:banghead:

It's very simple. The F40 was Il Commendatore's last Ferrari. None of the Ferraris built since then have known the touch of their father.

And, most unfortunately Piero has too little input into the cars, Jean Todt is still very wrapped up in the F1 side of things to focus on the road cars, and Luca de Montezemolo (the man Enzo entrusted with his F1 team) has been moved "up" in the Fiat world.

All of the people who'd stop a car like this - clearly inspired by beancounters and focus groups - from being produced are either out of the picture or otherwise occupied. I only hope that next year will see something truly phenomeonal out of Maranello or else all is lost.

Pentagram wheels, red paint... they should go the extra length and push the HP output to 666 and call it the Devil.

This ferrari is ugly. The last nice looking ferrari was the 360. All the others have gone backwards in terms of style barring the enzo.

I bought Peter Wright's F2002 book at that counter :)
Every Ferrari picture I seem to get from the web, you've been to the dealer it's in. :D

Remember the yellow Enzo one?

Anyways, I agree. Ferrari's straying off from the "art" it's produced in the past.

That Bizz is HOT! I might add that I think Ferrari named it the 599 just to prove the press wrong. It may sound stupid, but they've done it before. Silly? Yes. Strange? Yes. I think it's funny though

Plus it's not my fault you always get pics of FCI when you want to post something. I do have some cool pics from in there, though, like when they had both the yellow Enzo and a yellow CGT next to each other!

I prefer 512TR ... alot sexier than this
just don't understand why they build front-mid engine Ferrari as a flagship
mid engine is more traditional for Ferrari imo

With all the respect to Enzo, I think the F40 looks like a giant butthole. It's not sexy or attractive, it's just brutish.

Franz, front engine V12's are traditional at Ferrari. All of the truly great road-going Ferraris are front engined. The 166MM Barchetta, the 212 Vignale, the Testa Rossa in all its incarnations, the 250GT's, the Lussos, the GTO, the 275GTB and ultimately the 365GTB/4 Daytona.

The list of collectible, desirable, and classic mid-engine roadgoing Ferraris can be rattled off on one hand.

1 - 246GT Dino
2 - 288 GTO
3 - F40
4 - F50
5 - Enzo

Ferrari has always been about the big V12 coupes and roadsters, with the engine placed ahead of the driver. Even Enzo himself said "I enjoy the music of twelve cylinders".

I just noticed from this angle, that section of the car (highlighted in blue) really reminds me of the 93+ Toyota Supra.
