New GTHD Pics Available!

It's GT HD, not GT5, Kaz said GT5 will surpass the GT HD demo shown at E3

EDIT: Apologies, I'm not paying full attention to the GTP at the momonet  I missed something. Yeah it does look like GT4, but that's all GT HD is, a higher res GT4.

Ooops, I don't know what I was looking at when I typed that reply :dunce:.

Lordy lordy...

I know I keep repeating this, but I sure would like to see this on my PS3, especially if GT5 would be delayed, making it a much better game. Those backgrounds, trackside details and spectators sure look googley-eyed cool! :dopey:

And I do notice that a number of sources are referring to this as an actual game... maybe something is up with it that we don't know about...

Yes, you did. The thread was originally titled GT5 pics, but I changed it.

I forgot to tell you I changed it after you pointed it out.

Sorry about that...

Many of us will "ooh" and "ahh" over new pictures. This is simply a higher-res GT4. Whether or not this is a bad thing is your call. I still believe these are just things for us to think about when GT5 is released. Don't need to be dumb and just let the game come cold turkey. Got to actually think about actually constitutes GT5 as GT5 and not as an upgraded GT4. Vision Gran Turismo was one hint. GT HD is another. I'm going to stick to PD's word that the first actual soon-to-be-released, honest-to-goodness pictures will actually blow away GTs before this upcoming one. I probably guess that 12 cars were on the track and (maybe I'm overexaggerating) 12 or even 24 bikes to a track. Pretty and powerful as it is, I sincerely doubt this will be GT5 come release. We have to at least see more newer cars. Between now and then, PD's going to be looking for rides for us to tune up and win with. If they see a car they can secure into a GT, we're probably going to get it.

Enjoy these pictures while you can because we're probably going to enjoy even better pictures once the first evidence of GT5 come to us. Many of the newer cars we're seeing will probably be in GT5 much like some of GT Concept's rides appeared in GT4 (accurately predicted by me (not to brag)). Maybe we'll get more details by the end of the summer or even into Fall.

Ahh, and theres me thinking I've gone senile  👍.

Frankly, I prefer racing against cars vs a clock, so I'm happy. If this comes out as a game, I'm buying!

The biggest reason I might be skipping GTHD is that they say it will be released shortly after the PS3, and GT5 should be out around the time the PS3 prices drop to the range I'm willing to pay. Patience has allowed me to have never had to pay more than half of the initial price of a game system.

Well yeah. If GT5 is secretly almost done, and who knows, they may have been working on it for almost three years already, then GT HD is just a smoke screen and will never show up on the shelves.

EDIT: er, just properly read your post above. So, assuming that GT HD is an interim game released to give PS3 buyers a Gran Turismo game, I'd buy it and play the heck out of it while I wait for GT5.

I don't think GT5 is anywhere near done. Just a feeling I have. I think PD had so many other projects to work on since GT3, I bet they can't get GT5 released in 2007.

I'm beginning to think GTHD will be a somewhere near launch day title, and that we wont see GT5 until mid 2008.

Err, no, they don't say GT HD will be relased shortly after the PS3, they say GT HD is nothing more than a demo, it's not destined for production they say. And they said that the next GT game will hopefully be less of a wait than GT3 was after the PS2's launch.

I think theres been some confusion becuase PD haven't yet referred to the next GT game as GT5 and as a result people arn't taking note when they say that Vision GT and GT HD are just techincal stuff, they arn't the next GT game. I don't know if you watched the E3 conference, Kaz himself had a bit to say, he talked about the technicalaspects of GT HD, then he said that GT HD was nothing more than a demo knocked up on GT4's engine, and that the next GT would surpass it visually.

I know they never said it, but I'm guessing that's what's going to happen. I have a feeling Sony want a GT game around launch day of the PS3, and so GTHD might become a reality.

Pure speculation, BTW.

I'm not with either of you on this one, mid to late 2008 would be a 2 year + wait after the PS3's launch, Kaz quite clearly stated at E3 that GT HD was not destined for production and that the enxt GT was something we hadn't seen yet thatwould surpass GT HD, he also said that we should expect to see it not too long after the PS3's launch. More specifically, in less time than it took for GT3 to come out after the PS2's launch. It wasn't, I don't think GT HD will go into production it was GT HD is nothing more than a demo, I think Kaz was pretty keen to get that point across, he said it with Vision GT and he's said it with GT HD. Sure your free to speculate as we all are doing about the next GT game at the momoent, I'm just dissagreeing with you.

Ok people, GT HD and Vision GT are nothing more than camera fodder. Testing the waters so to speak. PD knows the stakes are high this time around, so no way in hell will they send out any GT game with GT4 code in it PERIOD.

I was reading up a bit, Kaz did an interview with Eurogamer, he said that GT5 is closer than we think, hmmm...well I see now why GT4's data was recorded at such a painstaking pace, and in such high detail, they were gearing up for GT5, hopefully they have that damage engine done right. They are late to the party so they have to go above and beyond everyone else in this department, not even worrying about the sound department, nor physics, neither visuals.

Don't ever think that PD's on the clock or in the hot seat when it comes to GT5. They don't need any extra pressure in getting GT5 to come about. I'm pretty sure they're looking for extra cars to test and get sound samples to. They are probably in negotiating deals in looking at other existing tracks and cities. For what we know, they could be working on getting Bathurst into GT5 and offering up a few extra car companies. They'll likely be at car shows looking for more cars to include. That Oreca Audi is a newer model, but not exactly "new" since the Audi R8 had been in since GT4. The newer Pescarolo Courage looks pretty nice (beautiful prototype race car, isn't it?). All of this stuff takes time and money. And why are we complaining if this is simply a Tech Demo? What, do you want SquareEnix to re-release Final Fantasy VII with the PS3's processing power? I'm also pretty tired of the hate against non-playable material argument. Don't you at least want an idea of an upcoming game than something playable? How do you think we get interested in concept cars? It's because we're thinking about what the future holds. And usually, it's a case of something developed by the maker that could be or will be implemented in the future. That's why I say that Vision Gran Turismo and Gran Turismo HD are only hints we'll get of what GT5 COULD be like. You're free to use your head any day now on this.

I stated that GTHD may have had motorcycles in the game to simply demonstrate high-detailed graphic capabilities. Do you really think that GT5 is going to feature motorcycles so that the PD kills its own Tourist Trophy franchise? Since when was GT about motorcycles? Some people just either jump to conclusions or just come up with jackass comments without reading and understanding material. You can hate me all you want, but that's the truth. PD does not have GT5 for its fans. Does it mean that PD is just playing around and not being serious about GT5 with playable material? Absolutely not. I think there's too much criticism with PD. They are probably working behind closed doors about all of this. GT5 is going to be bigger and better than GT4 (if that's possible) granted that GT5 doesn't become another GT3. We don't have enough tanbigle and legit information on GT5. There isn't really a lot of new content from PD. Only new things we've seen are a few extra cars, and that's about it. I want to play GT5 as badly as anyone else, but if they have nothing to show and play, then I'm okay. I got nothing to do with my life between now and GT5's arrival. So I can wait, even if this is "camera fodder."

If there's no new info, then there's no need for consistent bashing of PD and GT5. All the hating directed towards Polyphony Digital and the GT series isn't going to make development of GT5 come any faster. It's just a game. Don't set ultimatums or think PD has everything to lose and nothing to gain. Be realistic. Be smart. And especially be reasonable.

One thing makes me wonder if Gran Turismo 5 might not be closer than we think. Polyphony has put gobs of work into many aspects of GT, from the physics engine and graphics to the number of cars and tracks in the game. But one thing a vocal minority has been clamoring for is damage, and realistic damage isn't easy to model.

I'm still in the thick of Forza, and one of its much touted aspects is damage. Now it's a basic damage model, and it seems that there are a few basic templates based on a small number of collision possibilities. You see cars from time to time with the same damage on them, but it's rare. The model they put in the game works pretty well. However you still only get a few crumple models, a couple of dangling nose and fender models, broken windshield and light models, and that's it. And the effect of damage on the car's behavior is even more basic: sluggish transmission, misaliged wheels, weak engine. I expect that the amount of time the Forza team has had to work on Forza 2 will only yield a slight improvement on car damage.

Which brings me to Gran Turismo 5. Kazunori stated that damage would be done right or not at all, which in his almost perfectionistic view probably means the equivalent of an automaker's damage modelling algorithm, where the car is built of substantial individual elements, each with its own durability and stress physics. I have little doubt that the Polyphony team negotiated (or begged) to have access to the crash data of all these cars. I think they probably succeeded in at least getting a basic component physics engine going frm data they bought from the manufacturers, and I think this is the only thing that makes sense. I don't think they would be happy with a simple arcady damage system such as Forza has.

I also think that Polyphony has been working on GT5 for a couple of years at least, so who knows how close we are to seeing a Gran Turismo 5 on store shelves?

Edit: one more thing. I do think that if Kazunori refuses to release anything less than a dream-come-true Gran Turismo, and that the work so far is only a "mild nap" of an improvement over GT4, then we may well see GT HD get released, and I'd sure be happy to have it.
