Welcome to a new week of college football. This is a week in which two holidays will be celebrated- Halloween and Election Day. This is a week in which I'll profile a special school for Halloween. Then, I'll make the West Virginia and Louisville match special for November 2nd. I'll try to have some fun this week in giving you scores from all four divisions of NCAA football. If I don't have scores, I'll certainly have some extras for you. Get ready for another week of games. And remember... this is YOUR thread. Feel free to make posts in threads like this.

NEWS AND NOTES

* Who's Number 3?
After Trojans of Southern California lost in an upset to Oregon State, the West Virginia Mountaineers stepped into #3 in the nation. Of course, West Virginia and Louisville will meet November 2nd. Speaking of Louisville, the Cardinals moved into the Top 5. So you can surely bet these two want to be in a BCS Bowl and BADLY. We'll see who's for real between these two when the these two take the field November 2nd. Louisville is a Big East sophomore as West Virginia been in the conference for a long while. It doesn't get any better than this. I'll designate this game as the GAME OF THE WEEK. It's the first time in which I've given a non-Saturday game a "GAME OF THE WEEK" status. It should be a great match.

WEEK 10 - SUNDAY SYNOPSIS
This Sunday sees two matches in two different parts of the nation. First off is a key match in the Big East featuring one of the remaining unbeatens in college football. Three Big East teams were undefeated, and potentially two will remain. The biggest match of the week may possibly be the match between two Top 5 schools after Southern California was upset on Saturday. Expect a win by a little more than a touchdown in Division 2 as well as a Division 3 blowout. Only one home team won today.

DIVISION 1-A GAMES
"Good Night, Sweet Prince!" Connecticut at #15 Rutgers
This is a special game as we head into the birthplace of college football- Piscataway, NJ. Rutgers and Princeton played in the first-ever college football game over 135 years ago. Now we return to the birthplace of college football as one of the best basketball squads see their football team try to return to a Bowl Game like they did last year. Connecticut is all ready for this one. The Huskies are looking to bring Rutgers back down to Earth. The Scarlet Knights of Rutgers want to remain high in the sky so no one can touch them. It looked like Connecticut was going to steal Rutgers' thunder. However, the Huskies couldn't cash in on many of their opportunities. So Rutgers wins. (23-14; RUTGERS)

DIVISION 1-AA GAMES
-none reported-

DIVISION 2 GAMES
* Bentley at Saint Anselm (14-6; Bentley)

DIVISION 3 GAMES
* Plymouth State at MIT (35-3; Plymouth State)

JOHN'S EXTRAS

--- MEET YOUR NEW MOTO GP WORLD CHAMPION! ---
In a stunning collapse, Valentino Rossi slipped off the road during the MotoGP finale at Valencia. All Nicky Hayden had to do was not crash. And in so, Nicky Hayden is the first American in a long time to win the MotoGP World Championship. The young lad from Owensboro, KY won the World Championship for America in taking down Valentino Rossi. I have great respect for Nicky Hayden. This championship couldn't have happened to a better guy. He's the first American to win the title since 2000 when won it all for the U.S. of A.

--- THE MORE THINGS CHANGE... ---
There was supposed to be three games played between Rutgers and Princeton back on November 6, 1869. The third game was cancelled because the academic community said there was too much emphasis on football and not on academics. Makes you want to have more respect for Rutgers and with college football now, does it?

--- HBCU FACT ---
Did you know that North Carolina A&T has the best Engineering program among all black colleges? They graduate a lot of Engineering majors at NC A&T. Just too bad their football team can't deliver. They are (I believe) 0-8 on the year. They need help. Even Savannah State can win a game.

LATER THIS WEEK...

Don't forget that Louisville hosts West Virginia on Thursday. It will be #3 West Virginia at #5 Louisville. Is Louisville for real? Is West Virginia for real? Find out who's better than who this Thursday night!

Happy Halloween, everyone! As a weird deal lined up, one of the popular spooky creatures are vampires. I will profile a school for you. And it's something called... Transylvania University. Boo!

-Transylvania Profile

Official Name: Transylvania University (nicknamed "Transy")
Motto: "In Lumine Illo Tradimus Lumen" (I'm sorry. I can't translate for you.)
Established: 1780
Location: Lexington, KY
School Colors: Crimson and White
Website: http://www.transy.edu ; Athletics: http://www.transy.edu/athletics/content/index.asp

Collegiate Conference: Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (NCAA Divsion 3)
Nickname/Mascot: Pioneers
Basketball Arena: Beck Center
Seating Capacity: (under 1,000?)

Last Football Season: never sponsored(?)

DID YOU KNOW...

(1.) ...that "Transylvania" is Latin for "across the woods?"

(2.) ...that Transylvania University first opened in Danville, KY in 1780? It would move to Lexington nine years later.

(3.) ...that it is named after the heavily-forested region of western Virginia that became Kentucky in 1972? That would probably describe how both Kentucky and Virginia were commonwealths. I think they still are along with two other states.

(4.) ...that Transylvania University and (then) Kentucky University were merged in 1865 after the devastation of the Civil War?

FAMOUS ALUMNI:
James Lane Allen - "Kentucky's first important novelist."
Stephen F. Austin - Founder of Texas (my state, in case you didn't know)
Francis Preston Blair - American journalist and politician
Francis Preston Blair Jr. - American politician and Union War General during Civil War
John C. Breckinridge - American Vice President, Secretary of War, and of Confederate States
Thomas James Churchill - Governor of Arkansas and Confederate war general in Civil War
Cassius Clar - abolitionist.
Jefferson Davis - President of the Confederate States of America.
John Marshall Harlan - U.S. Supreme Court Justice.
Adam Blake Hutchinson - Joseph Buchanan Award Winner.
Kyle Matther Melloan - notable Horror Film Historiographer.
Michael Edqin McEuen - notable Jon Bon Jovi impersonator.

-and that's Transylvania for you. You won't see any members of the Belmont family (for example, Simon Belmont) to whip the crap out of demons and vampires at this Transylvania. This is a religious-type university affiliated with the Disciples of Christ.

Happy Halloween, everyone! Read more on my info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transylvania_University

Happy Halloween! We got football between two teams who are too good to have Halloween parties at night. Or look at it this way. Maybe this is their way of football. Get ready for Halloween football! The highly popular color for Halloween is Orange. But I don't want to confuse fans because I use Orange to highlight OWNAGE OF THE WEEK nominees. So I've decided not to use any certain color for this batch of Halloween games other than the usual black.

WEEK 10 - TUESDAY (HALLOWEEN) SYNOPSIS
The only match on Halloween was in Dallas between a good team with a bad record and a team that's rebuilding itself back to former glory. What was a defensive battle had ended up in the opening of the proverbial flood gates.

DIVISION 1-A GAMES
"Tricks and Treats" UAB at SMU
Tricks? Treats? Or football? How do you choose on Halloween? Little kids are all dressed up in their little costumes. Tricks or treats? It's a treat to get bags full of candy. Trust me. We're going to have a Texas-sized battle as the University of Alabama-Birmingham gets hosted by Southern Methodist University. We're going to Dallas, TX for this one. Alabama-Birmingham is first. Alabama-Birmingham (or UAB for short) has risen from NCAA Division 3 to NCAA Division 1-A by a decade and change. A decade and change! That's almost impossible for most schools today. They are in Conference USA, which is PURELY a Division 1 conference. It may not be the biggest conference, but it isn't a nobody conference. And the Blazers aren't a nobody team. They'll surprise you in football and basketball. UAB is perhaps one of the more underrated C-USA teams. Now for the C-USA sophomores. Southern Methodist University was part of the Western Athletic Conference before moving to Conference USA. Their inclusion into C-USA makes it four Texas teams in C-USA. The university can be found in Dallas, Texas. Everything's bigger in Texas, right? Well, not Mustangs' football. They had some playmakers in their past. Trouble is, there aren't as many in today's SMU. No one who stands out and punches your head while you're flat on your back. They can use some playmakers here. There will be plenty of tricks from both sides. But who will be treated with a win? We'll find out as this report ends. UAB connected a field goal to make it 3-0. Then a VERY easy touchdown gave SMU some leverage as they led 7-3. Another UAB field goal made it our halftime score of 7-6. A majority of scoring later in the game was by the Dallas outfit. One of those included a trick on UAB which led to an SMU treat- a pick returned for a touchdown. The 6+1 mmade it 22-9 in favor of Southern Methodist. The game ended with a horrible trick for Alabama-Birmingham. Meanwhile, treats went to Southern Methodist. (22-9; SOUTHERN METHODIST)

JOHN'S EXTRAS

--- A NOTE ON THE WEST VIRGINIA AT LOUISVILLE GAME ---
This game will take place on Election Day. This Election Day game is why I gave this week a presidential theme. There were two holidays this week and was torn between which holiday to theme this week on. And I chose Election Day. I'm going to try to make this game special and have some fun with it. I hope you'll enjoy it with me. I usually don't theme things a lot because it means that I have to add some extra material that interferes with me in trying to clear my initial objective. If I themed all of my scores and stuff, it would mean extra and unnecessary clutter.

Anyhow, I'll try to have an Election or presidential theme for this game.

--- NBA SEASON KICKS OFF! ---
The NBA season is under way as of Tuesday at 7:00 PM EST. Among the different ball games played on the hardwood include the Chicago Bulls at the Miami Heat and the Phoenix Suns at the Los Angeles Lakers. My hometown Houston Rockets will start their season on Wednesday as they will meet the Utah Jazz. They don't play their first home game until Saturday against Dallas(?). But look out, NBA... college basketball season will kick off later in November. So Duke fans, North Carolina fans, Kentucky fans, Arizona fans, California fans, UCLA fans, Louisville fans... GET JACKED, BABY!

By the way... history was made... just not positive history. Miami lost by 40+ to Chicago. It's the worst opening day loss for a defending champion. Chicago won 108-66 in South Beach. The past record was a 15-point loss for the L.A. Lakers. I don't think this record will be broken for a while unless the Atlanta Hawks become champion and lose to San Antonio or Detroit.

--- EVER CONFUSE (SPEAKING OF THE NBA) GOLDEN STATE FOR A COLLEGE TEAM? ---
The Golden State Warriors... just say it to yourself for a moment. Doesn't that sound like a collegiate team more than a pro franchise? Just the way "Golden State" sounds, I'm thinking it is a college team playing on a pro level. Maybe it's just College Sports me.

--- DID YOU HEAR THAT, FLORIDA STATE? ---
ESPN2 had an exclusive look-in when they looked into the SMU locker room. One of the players tried to rally the team together and said something similar to this:

"You chose to be at SMU. You're not at Texas or Michigan. You chose SMU. Reason why we're not getting as much publicity as Florida State? It's because they don't play for it."

Now imagine if Florida State came into Dallas and b:censored:-slapped SMU all over Dallas. What's that thing about eating your words? Just food for thought.

--- "...MORE IMPORTANTLY, THE DALLAS STARS!" ---
The UAB/SMU game had one of the announcers talking about the West End Market in Dallas with the United Airlines Arena (or whatever Dallas' basketball arena is because I confuse it with the American Airlines Arena in Miami). The guy mentioned the Dallas Mavericks, then said, "but more importantly, the Dallas Stars." I have no problem with Texas' only existing NHL team, but don't you think it's sort of a slap in the face to downplay the Dallas Mavericks? They got big, scary, Dirk N. Come on, now!

LATER THIS WEEK:

Will West Virginia triumph at Louisville? Will Louisville upset West Virginia (Louisville is a #5 going up against #3 WVU)? Find out this Thursday!

JOHN'S EXTRAS
(none to share)

I was unable to get scores in because I overslept last night and didn't get them in. Remember that I'll have results from Divisions 1-A through 2. I don't think any Division 3 games will be on tap until Saturday. And remember that I'll have an election theme for the West Virginia at Louisville game. So you'll want to check that out.

This thread is themed on elections and stuff. We're about to elect a power in the Big East. Rutgers is fast approaching, but Louisville and West Virginia are ready to go at it.

WEEK 10 - THURSDAY SYNOPSIS
A crucial Top 5 match in Division 1-A has serious implications on who remains in the higher echelons of the 1-A BCS standings. 1-A has a blowout and a close game. A rivalry game ends in an upset in Division 2 while another Division 2 game no doubt a winner. No Division 3 action occured on this night.

DIVISION 1-A GAMES
"Dare to be Great(er)" #3 West Virginia at #5 Louisville (GAME OF THE WEEK) (Election Special)
My name is John B. Marine ("JohnBM01" on GTPlanet), and I approve this message. This is a battle between two highly-ranked Big East schools. Both of which are trying to convince America that they are for real. Let's key in on the two sides here as this race for Big East supremacy is up for grabs. Here are the two parties, first West Virginia... followed by Louisville. It's all part of a busy week for Louisville (the city) with a basketball exhibition, this game here, and the Breeder's Cup this Saturday (though I'm not really a horse racing fan).

FOR WEST VIRGINIA:
"Good evening, everyone. We are West Virginia University. Our home base is Morgantown, WV. We are headed by our campaign manager, Rich Rodriguez (I mistakenly typed Rich Brooks- Kentucky's coach!). Vote West Virginia for Big East supremacy. You know, we are not called the Mountaineers for cheap publicity. It is because life has plenty of mountains. But only the strong and the mighty can scale and topple such challenges. You need to rise up! Life has mountains, but you don't have to fear any longer. Make us your Big East supremacy, and we shall slay any dragon which dare threaten the landscape of college football. We are #3 in the nation. But we need your help and support to make us #1 in the lives of Big East fans. Thank you."

FOR LOUISVILLE:
"Hello to all media officials and general public-at-large. We are the University of Louisville, based in beautiful Louisville, Kentucky. West Virginia may promise to give us the courage to scale the highest of mountains. They may have beaten Georgia. We've beaten a five-time national championship team- Miami. Who has West Virginia beaten? We've shown to be realer than real. We're also used to the talk that the Big East isn't 'all that and a bag of chips," so to speak. Who needs mountains when you can fly over them? And fly we shall! People, we are the Louisville Cardinals. Should you concen yourself with scaling massive rocks with snow atop them? We are called Cardinals because we lead the way. Our graduates fly over leaps and bounds. Vote Louisville for Big East supremacy, and we will give our fans the ability and the prowess to soar high and above every wicked soul who dare threaten our #5 ranking. We know we're #1. We just need to prove it. Because unlike those blue kittens in Lexington, we've been red-hot in football. We hope to be dominant against our in-state rivals in basketball as our team smashed them in football. We are only sophomores in the Big East. We've been banged up, but our spirit remains on. We're more than a basketball school. We can actually win games. Take us to a BCS Bowl. Make us your Big East stars in the sky. Spread your wings, open your heart, and help us win our campaign over the #3 West Virginia Mountaineers. Thank you, and godspeed!"

Now let's see whose campaign was successful and which needs... let's say... "fine tuning." The Louisville boys wanted their fans to dress in black to have a bigger home field advantage. In an ESPN poll asking which team would win, 49 out of 50 states noted that West Virginia would win. That other state? Kentucky. Let's see if all 49 of those states are right.
Louisville is the home of champions as the intro has shown. They've scored 50.9 points per game at home and have only six picks on them with over 34 touchdowns when at home. If they REALLY want to shine, schedule Ohio State, Texas, Michigan, Southern California, Florida... you know, the big teams. Challenge yourselves. West Virginia brings a 3-3-5 defensive package with two cornerbacks. ***1ST QUARTER*** Louisville gets 3 on the board against WVU after a considerably good opening drive. Later on, you heard West Virginia's fight song because WVU punched in a 42-yard touchdown run. The 6+1 made it 7-3. A basketball game as a tune-up for a FOOTBALL game? Weird. ***2ND QUARTER*** Carmody boots a 25-yard kick to make it 7-6. Louisville still has yet to be in the end zone at this point. Did you know that Lee Corso once coached the Louisville Cardinals? Louisville hit a short touchdown rush with 7:04 left in the second. There's six, so add one more. The 'Ville leads 13-7. Slaton (WVU) for Heisman next year? West Virginia ties with 4:42 left in the first half on a wonderful 1st and Goal touchdown. One lumps or two, WVU? Better make it one. There are two Mountaineer touchdowns to just Louisville's single TD. And the Mountaineers led 14-13. Louisville hit another field goal as they led 16-14. This is like a basketball game in the early stages. Louisville's campaign was working after 30 minutes logged in. ***3RD QUARTER*** There was a touchdown somewhere for Louisville. Add seven points. Add seven more at 9:23 left in the Third. Now it's 30-14 Louisville as West Virginia is ready to get pimp slapped by Louisville... not to mention punishing the 49 states that said West Virginia will win. Salvation for WVU fans came when the West Virginia Mountaineers cashed in another money touchdown. The 6+1 made it 30-21 with about 2:20 left in the Third Quarter. ***4TH QUARTER*** The first play in the Fourth Quarter was a 1st and Goal connect for Louisville. Extra penny made it 37-21 for Louisville as the blowout was secure at this point. The "basketball on grass" theme continued as West Virginia hit a touchdown with 12:41 left. They wanted eight, but botched the snap. So it's 37-27 as WVU hasn't led since their first touchdown. West Virginia hasn't needed the field goal team at this point. Will it continue? The lead was now 17 as Louisville made it a 44-27 beating. Maybe Louisville IS for real. Slaton was sidelined after getting banged up a bit. West Virginia shown not to give up as they got another TD to make it 44-34 with 2:18 left. They need to KEEP ON SCORING if they want to at least make it close. The Louisville stadium has collapsible goal posts so that the fans can storm the field and bring down the goal posts. They are almost done. Being down by 10 with just over 2 minutes left is a LOT of time left. (44-34; #5 LOUISVILLE) *upset!*

DIVISION 1-AA GAMES
* Nicholls State at Texas State (21-19; Nicholls State)
* Bethune-Cookman at Hampton (34-17; HAMPTON)

DIVISION 2 GAMES
"Slippery House Rock" Slippery Rock at #22 Indiana University of Pennsylvania (RIVALRY GAME)
We're talking about Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. They are playing an in-state opponent with Indiana University. But we're talking about Indiana University of Pennsylvania in a city called Indiana, PA. So NO affiliation with Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. If you smell... what the Rock are cookin', then you'll know that they want to do everything in their power to topple their rivals at IUP. Not "1up" (though I had it initially as the title of this report), but Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I don't have IUP's nickname, so I'll leave them as is. In the end, Slippery Rock stood tall to preserve the upset. SRU coach, Dr. George Mihalik, became the winningest coach in Slippery Rock football history. My congratulations to the boys in green and white. This win gave SRU's head cheese 127 wins. (21-17; Slippery Rock) *upset!*

* West Alabama at #18 Delta State (41-7; DELTA STATE)

DIVISION 3 GAMES

JOHN'S EXTRAS

--- IT IS ON TUESDAY? ---
I learned that Election Day is actually on November 7th and not November 2nd. First Tuesday in November. So my apologies to bringing up this kind of hype this early. I still wanted to make this fun regardless.

--- SHOULD AN UNBEATEN BIG EAST TEAM PLAY FOR THE NATIONAL TITLE? ---
Forget everything you've heard about the Big East conference in not being the kind of power conference it used to be. And just ask yourself... should an unbeaten Big East team play for the National Championship? Let's say the SEC is denied in a National Championship deal. Should a Big East team play for a championship if a team is unbeaten? Or is it a case in which it's more like the 2004 Utah Utes, who went unbeaten and played in a BCS game?

--- WOULD YOU MEN EVER WEAR A WONDERBRA? ---
No, I'm not talking about crossdressing. I'm talking about an honest-to-God Wonderbra for men. Would you wear one? Here's something some of you may not know about me- I actually follow fashion trends and such, especially among ladies' fashion trends. I'm even part of another message board devoted to fashion. But would I wear one of those? No. Not a chance. I don't consider myself the metrosexual type. Especially since there was that trend of manskirts (other than Scottish kilts). Surprisingly, I haven't seen guys here in Texas or in this general region wear a skirt. Only that there was one guy who was actually from Scotland and worn a kilt heading up to class to teach. But other than that, don't expect to see me (or a bunch of other straight men) to wear a Wonderbra. I got this from the "Big Finish" from ESPN show, "Pardon the Interruption." The word is that an Australian company is planning on making something the equivalent of a Wonderbra. for men

--- LAGUNA BEACH: THE REAL ORANGE COUNTY vs. THE O.C. ---
Both of these shows are quite popular. The MTV show (Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County) is more of a teenybopper-type show mostly delved in the SoCal surfing/beach lifestyle deal. I can't believe I'm telling you this, but I've sort of been switching between the WVU/Louisville game and "The O.C." on FOX. I haven't seen "The O.C." before. Wanted to see what the buzz and hype was about. In my view, The OC is more like a dramatic deal whereas

--- GETTING COLD UP IN HERE! ---
Houston had BEAUTIFUL weather with some chilly skies. I worn a turtleneck sweater and took a jacket with me. But no doubt it was beautiful. One network here said that highs reached 68. But it was nothing like that 32 degree Farenheit weather on Christmas Eve two years ago- cold weather and falling snow. Yes. Snow in Houston! Can you believe it? I was out doing Christmas shopping and everything. Then at 7PM local time, snow came down beautifully from the skies. It was so wonderful. If you ever come to Houston or any place else in Southeast Texas, let it be in the winter time. I do sort of imagine what Kerrville is like in colder weather. Kerrville (approx. one hour northwest of San Antonio) is a BEAUTIFUL city in the Texas Hill Country. It's been told as a wonderful place for Texans to visit in winter weather. A Winter weather retreat, if you will.

--- PLAYSTATION 3 COMING 11/17/2006 AT TOYS "R" US ---
Toys "R" Us is one of those places I loved to visit when I was young. Between the time I was still young and never really been to Toys "R" Us, the stores have grown at an insane pace. Now you can get all kinds of games including some PC titles. And the next-gen wars begin in two weeks when Toys "R" Us (among many other stores?) gets PS3 units in stock. It's the PS3's rather insane price tag vs. the XBOX360's tag. According to this Big Toy Book by this company, the XBOX360 sells at about $399.99. The PS3 sells for $499.99 for the 20GB version, and you can add $100 to that for the 60GB version. So some of you Christmas shoppers will need to hope that there are some used consoles for better prices.

There should be more action this weekend. So I'll see you then.

Louisville played a good game last night and proved that they were the better team. Not that I like Louisville, but I will always cheer against WVU. Now let's see if Pitt can beat both of them (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, I can dream, right?)

Also, that's funny that you covered Slippery Rock vs. IUP, I didn't think anybody outside of western Pennsylvania had ever heard of those schools, I'd have to check the rosters, but I'm sure I know a few people from both of those teams. Props to Slippery Rock for the upset.

What would be funny is if next week Rutgers beats Louisville then West Virginia beats Rutgers when they play them.

kjb
What would be funny is if next week Rutgers beats Louisville then West Virginia beats Rutgers when they play them.
Then the BCS would just rematch Michigan and Ohio State and West Virginia and Louisville would cry during the entire off season.

Wait...💡 This would be awesome!!!

slinks off to calculate Kentucky's odds of making it to the Liberty Bowl

What would be funny is if next week Rutgers beats Louisville then West Virginia beats Rutgers when they play them.

Or if they both lose to Pitt. :) I know, it's highly unlikely, but maybe then Palko would get the recognition he deserves. I'll be at the backyard brawl since it's in Pittsburgh this year, and seeing WVU get upset would be amazing.

Some of you may not know this, but I actually watch a variety of games on a variety of channels. College Sports Television (CSTV) featured the Division 2 match between Slippery Rock at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. CSTV can provide a lot of information courtesy of the CSTV crew. Some of the schools featured on CSTV's lineup of "Coast2Coach" shows actually give you a lot of insight on the teams. One of my favorite programs for the "Coast2Coach" deal occurs with "Hawk Talk with Phil Marteli(?)." It is a show highlighting on Saint Joseph University and the SJU Hawks. But that's during basketball season. You'll know which schools have a link to CSTV if you see "cstv" somewhere in the site's URL. Here's two examples:

http://uhcougars.cstv.com/ (University of Houston)
http://rockathletics.cstv.com/ (Slippery Rock University)

Note the "CSTV" in there. And if you watch some of those "Coast2Coach" shows they have (mostly in the morning and afternoon), you'll get a lot of stats on how the specific team is doing this season.

The marquee 1-A matchup is a shout-out to all the young Americans serving our nation. Get ready for college football with plenty of patriotic pride!

WEEK 10 - FRIDAY SYNOPSIS
The only known match in tonight's games include a battle between two of America's service acadamies. This game, however, was over too quickly. The winning team didn't score after halftime.

DIVISION 1-A GAMES
"United We Stand" Air Force at Army (RIVALRY GAME)
Get ready for a patriotic match between the Air Force Academy playing at the United States Military Academy. It's my personal second best military academy's football team up against my least favorite military academy's football team. Let's meet Air Force. I came from the Wings Over Houston Air Show about two weeks ago. I am still amazed at the capabilities of the F15 aircraft. The thing handles like a Formula One race car in the air. Can you imagine turning almost instantaneously in the air? Those planes aren't just for show. We need them to defend our skies from terrorists. And that's what the United States Air Force Academy trains young soliders to do- patrol our skies from danger. The Falcons have one of many secondary tasks- go out and win ball games. Who would have thought that Air Force would make the NCAA Tournament in March Madness last season? Here I am thinking about seeing no less than three teams from the Missouri Valley Conference make it in as well as all the usual suspects... and here comes Air Force. Their football team has been a bit down. Maybe a win for this Mountain West team will uplift their spirits. That's right. This is the only military academy in Division 1-A that is part of a conference. Their counterparts was part of C-USA at one point(?). And that's the United States Military Academy. Army has a horrible football team, but their real playmakers are out serving our nation. The U.S. Military Academy can be found in West Point, NY. West Point is about 20 miles south southwest of Poughkeepsie, NY. While their football team is pathetic, the Black Knights have something Air Force doesn't have- National Championship recognition. That's right. They haven't won the National Championship since 1945. By then, Hitler killed himself, US dropped the A-Bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki as Admiral Hirohito surrendered, and World War 2 came to an end. They won three National Championships between the 1940 and 1945 seasons. So let's see if Army can deliver a championship performance against the Falcons. The Halftime score was the same score through three quarters- 43-0 in favor of Air Force. Did you know that military training helps players lose about 20-30 pounds? After all, many of them will serve our nation for generations to come. And they get MILITARY training to help in football, the service, and in life. Wow! Air Force can even their record with a win here. They are 3-4 as the Army are 3-6. Air Force now improves to .500 as they smashed the pathetic Black Knights. (43-7; Air Force)

JOHN'S EXTRAS
The first two would deal with the state of Kentucky.

--- WHAT IF LOUISVILLE WAS IN THE SEC THAN BIG EAST? ---
I've been thinking. What if Louisville joined the SEC and not the Big East? There would be a problem with this. It would mean that the rivalry game between Louisville and Kentucky would have to happen later in the year. But if you remember from Week 1, Houston and Rice tangled in Week 1 as they are both in Conference USA. Imagine Louisville being matched up against teams like Florida, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee... and of course, Kentucky. I guess Louisville wanted in on the Big East so that they want to have a legit chance to play in a BCS Bowl Game. The last bowl Louisville went to was the Toyota Gator Bowl when they took on Virginia Tech (and the infamous incident of Marcus Vick of VT stomping on Elvis Dumervil's leg). They upset #3 West Virginia on Thursday at home.

--- WHY DOESN'T KENTUCKY PLAY IN THE SEC FOR SOCCER? ---
From one football to another. The Kentucky Wildcats are the second seed of the C-USA Conference Championship tournament. The first thing one would think is, why is a traditional SEC team playing in a C-USA league? I don't know. I believe the SEC sponsors soccer because I've seen teams like Tennessee and South Carolina play. Some teams in some conferences play in one conference for one sport, then another conference for some other sport. Take Villanova University. They play in the Big East for basketball, but the (soon to drop football) Atlantic 10 for football. Then you have some teams that play in a conference in football, but are part of a non-football conference for some other sports. Two examples come to mind: San Diego and Youngstown State. These are the only two schools in their respective basketball conferences to have a football program. San Diego is part of the Great West in football and West Coast Conference in basketball. Youngstown State plays its football in the Pioneer Football League while they play basketball in the Horizon League. Or maybe some programs are in different conferences based on talent level and/or financial backing. But it would be interesting to see the 'Cats play SEC soccer.

--- HAPPY 60th ANNIVERSARY, AIR FORCE! ---
My stepfather tells me that if I ever want to join a military, join the Air Force or maybe the Navy. I certainly think the Air Force has wonderful aircraft to patrol our skies and take down any enemy that dares threaten our peace. God bless all you men and women. And thank you for all you've done for our country. I don't claim to be the biggest patriot, but I'm certainly glad we have men and women defending us on all fronts. Thanks to everyone. And happy anniversary to the USAF.

TOMORROW'S GAMES...

Among others, take a look at what's coming up this weekend:

* #1 Ohio State at Illinois (for dougiemeats)
* Ball State at #2 Michigan
* Pittsburgh at South Florida (for Max Powers)
* Georgia at Kentucky (for FoolKiller, this might get ugly...)
* Northwestern at Iowa (for JNasty4G93)
* #20 Georgia Tech at North Carolina State
* Tulsa at Houston (C-USA West division lead on the line (Tulsa leads))
* Washington at #24 Oregon (for Kylenhat)

And if I get a chance, I'll try to tape Speed Channel coverage of the LMS and FIA-GT race events. I may trade the VCR in my room and try using a DVD recorder. If all goes well this weekend. Have a great weekend with whatever games you'll go to, listen to on radio, or watch. Have fun!

Also, that's funny that you covered Slippery Rock vs. IUP, I didn't think anybody outside of western Pennsylvania had ever heard of those schools, I'd have to check the rosters, but I'm sure I know a few people from both of those teams. Props to Slippery Rock for the upset.
I'm fairly certain that a couple players on both teams went to school with me. Good to see some news about either school that doesn't involve out of control partying and heavy drinking.
Good work as always this week John.

Welcome to the first weekend of November. Fall is for football. Fall is also where NCAA soccer is making ready for conference play. Collegiate hockey is still heating up the ice. And a number of schools are already into making ready for the new season. Some even are making ready for exhibition tournaments. But all you care about is football. I'm just here to feed your need.

WEEK 10 - SATURDAY SYNOPSIS
The big game this week was Louisville hosting West Virginia. It didn't mean that there was a bevy of other games to tickle the collective fancies of collegiate football fans alike. A number of 1-A upsets and big wins occured in the SEC. One C-USA team is having an excellent year as they hope to keep the pressure on. Not as many upsets occured in 1-AA as one game had to be decided in Overtime. The top 5 in Division 2 were unaffected. However, one Top 10 Division 2 school went down on the road. The Top 5 in Division 3 also didn't see any team lose. The four that did compete all played at home. The Top 10 did not lose. Down the order, three upsets against Top 25 teams occured below the 10th ranked Division 3 teams. This all made for a Saturday of surprises in all four divisions.

DIVISION 1-A GAMES
Let's begin in the SEC. The game of the week was on Thursday as West Virginia lost at Louisville. Now let's see how the other Kentucky team does against a struggling Georgia team.

"Judgment Day" Georgia at Kentucky
Kentucky is not the class of SEC football. I already know that. Georgia has a chance to stop the bleeding by taking on Kentucky. But they won't be at Sanford Stadium. Oh no. They'll be at Commonwealth Stadium in Lexington, KY. The boys in blue are ready as it's a classical cats vs. dogs battle. Let's meet the puppies. Georgia is the much better team on paper. The boys from Athens, GA are ready to bite through some haters. The Bulldogs have struggled as of late. And if they lose at Kentucky, some people are going to be quite upset with the coach. Now let's meet the cuddly kittens that know football and basketball very well. The University of Kentucky is in Lexington, KY. Perhaps the biggest landmark in this city is Rupp Arena. It's where Kentucky's basketball team has over seven national championships (and maybe an eighth if they keep up the good work). Kentucky knows they are overmateched in a tough football conference, but anything is possible if you believe. Since when have you seen a cowardly feline? Rich Brooks lets his boys know that Wildcats never quit. I don't know if the 60,000 seating capacity at Commonwealth was filled, but certainly Kentucky wants to give Georgia something to remember them by. I didn't learn the results until I got home around 5PM CST when I saw the Tulsa at Houston game (that game is next in this report!). This one is going out to my buddy FoolKiller. Did Kentucky kill these fools from Georgia? They beat them by four. Kentucky's been doing much better this season. They used to be an SEC door mat. Now they're standing tall against some of the better teams. And if they keep up this momentum, this team may become the dark horse of the SEC. Be afraid... the Kentucky Wildcats will sneak up and bite you in the bum. How do those 'Cats party in Lexington after beating a proven SEC power? It's a great weekend for the state of Kentucky as Louisville wins on Thursday and Kentucky wins today. Let Wildcat freedom sing! (24-20; KENTUCKY) *big win nominee*

*** OFF-TOPIC NOTE: FoolKiller we thank you for fellow Wildcat Chuck Hayes playing for my hometown Houston Rockets. He helped in the rout against Dallas.

"A Higher Power" Tulsa at Houston
This battle is for the lead of Conference USA's West Division. Tulsa is 7-1 meeting a 6-3 Houston squad. Nothing personally makes me happy than to see Houston emerge in conference by giving our city something to be proud of. You've seen one set of kittens win, so will another? Tulsa is the defending C-USA Champions as they are heading down to my hometown. The kings of northeastern Oklahoma are ready to give southeast Texas a thrill ride they'll never forget. The Golden Hurricane are a fun-to-watch bunch of boys ready to take it to Houston. But player... you are coming into OUR house! Everything's bigger in Texas. Everything's better in Houston. And speaking of better, Houston football is getting better. The University of Houston has had its share of stars in its past. Recall Phi Slamma Jamma in basketball. They've been good, but never good enough to win the National Championship. Had we not lost to North Carolina State (1983) and Georgetown (1984), we would have been two-time defending National Champions in basketball. Our Houston football team went up in a classic 1979 Cotton Bowl when we took on Joe Montana (or Joe Namath?). We need some pendelum swing to help us get back to being a classic football team. A win over Tulsa will surely help. The Houston Cougars were about to be ready for a critical match. And they WERE ready. Ready and willing to get her done! And Houston GOT her done. Kevin Kolb became the all-time passing leader in Houston history with about 12,007 yards. In addition, Vincent Marshall became the all-time reception yards with over 3,359 reception yards. BIG day for Houston in a blowout win. (27-10; HOUSTON) *big win nominee*

"Dead Valley" Maryland at #19 Clemson
South Carolinians are ready to make some noise as they welcomed Maryland. The 1981 National Champions are looking to keep a great thing going. The University of Maryland wants you to "Fear the Turtle." So Maryland crawled its way from College Park, MD all the way to Clemson, South Carolina. Pretty damn long crawl! The Terrapins actually have Level 3 Weight Reduction and Stage 4 Turbos. So they were able to get their easily. Clemson hasn't had it easy. Sure the #19 Clemson University crew are doing impressive, but they need to keep it up if they want to make plenty of noise in the ACC. The Tigers are doing impressively in meeting Maryland. Maryland is usually a middle-of-the-road team. They were nowhere near middle today because they are at the top. (13-12; Maryland) *upset!*

"The Hawkeye Will Never Die!" Northwestern at Iowa
I'd love to give JNasty4G63 some good news on Iowa. I just hope they can win so I can share the news with my Iowa fan. We'll get acquainted with Northwestern first. Northwestern can be found in Evanston, IL. Two of the most famous Northwestern grads are Brent Musburger (announcer) and Michael Wilbon (co-host of ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption"). The Northwestern Wildcats are one of a few Chicago-area teams with football programs. Non-football programs in this area include Loyola University of Chicago, Chicago State, and DePaul among others. A team with proud pedigree in football is Iowa. The best school in the state of Iowa is Iowa. The best 1-AA power in Iowa is Northern Iowa. The Iowa Hawkeyes sure love to play football. Kirk Ferentz coached up his boys so the Hawkeyes can make a statement at home. That home would be Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, IA. Unfortunately, as beautiful as Kinnick Stadium can be, this was an ugly loss. Perhaps even a disappointing loss. Sorry, JNasty. Wanted to give the Hawkeyes some love. Iowa just lost by two touchdowns. (21-7; Northwestern)

"F:censored:in' Finally!" Indiana at Minnesota
Minnesota's been dying in the football ranks even as their hockey team has shown some teeth. Minnesota is a good team with a bad year. Indiana may give Minnesota something to cry about if they win. Indiana University is not going to just sit idly as other teams blow them out. Or do they? The Hoosiers want to spank an already-spanked Minnesota. The spanking I'm talking about has nothing to do with any steamy Internet webcam stuff. Minnesota needs to re-discover themselves. A win over Indiana will give them something to build on. Minneapolis, MN is where the University of Minnesota can be found. The crimson and gold need a big win... a golden win. If you love rodents that can play football, Golden Gophers are your favorite animals. They make cuddly Christmas presents as well. This win, however, doesn't have to wait unitil Christmas to open. It's a gift of gold that's long overdue. (63-26; MINNESOTA)

--- North Carolina Pack ---
This is all about teams from North Carolina. Enjoy this pack of games.

"The Winning Touch" North Carolina at #9 Notre Dame
The University of North Carolina wants to take down college football's biggest independent. It's Notre Dame hosting North Carolina. Notre Dame first. The University of Notre Dame is in South Bend, IN. Yes... THAT Notre Dame, not the beautiful Le Catedral de Notre Dame[/B]. I'd still love to visit Paris though we have our own Notre Dame. I'm not going to be the one to continue an anti-French movement since I'm cultured. The Fighting Irish are ready to keep climbing the ladder to success. Notre Dame goes to Air Force next week, but first, they must get through North Carolina. The boys from Chapel Hill, NC are ready to go at it. You don't mess with the boys from Tobacco Road in basketball. UNC will beat you down every way possible in half-court and full-court execution. What the Tar Heels can do in basketball their football team can't match. The Tar Heels are perhaps the best basketball school in football. They are doing much better than their pathetic rivals at Duke (they are next!) this year. But they didn't do great in South Bend as Notre Dame mopped the floor with North Carolina. (45-26; NOTRE DAME)

* Navy at Duke (38-13; Navy)

- end "North Carolina Pack"

--- All About You Pack ---
This thread is where I shout out to some of the people who check out my reports. It's time I give back to a few more of you after giving you my reports on certain games. I'll show you love if you give me some love.

* Washington at Oregon
Weashington is on the move, but they'll need to stop Oregon to keep it going. This is for kylenhat, who wants to see his boys go from Seattle to Eugene to win. Let's meet Oregon first. Oregon is what you'd call a fashionable football team. They are creative with all the different jersey styles as well as pants combinations. They still have an ugly combination of a nice green color with a gold... almost yellow color. Oregon is also fashionable in football as their football talent is amazing. Maybe not the runways of New York or Paris, but certainly a fashion statement I'm sure the Aflac duck is watching because the Oregon Ducks are ready to pummel Washington. Now for a warm welcome to Washington. The pride of Seattle, Washington are ready to potentially upset Oregon. The Huskies know they have their work cut out ofr them as they are on an improving track. The Huskies (34-14; OREGON)

"Trouble in Tampa" Pittsburgh at South Florida
Max Powers credited me for covering the upset win Slippery Rock pulled on Indiana University of Pennsylvania. So I'll thank him back with coverage of Pittsburgh going to Tampa. The battlefield will be Raymond James(?) Stadium. It's the stadium where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers play their football action. We don't care about the NFL in this series of threads, so let college football sing! Pittsburgh may have some problems having to dodge the USF Bulls. Pittsburgh is no pushover. They are doing much better nowadays. This came after their bad season last season when their great team didn't do all that well under Dave W. The Panthers will bite you on the bottom if you're not careful. Sad news... South Florida was better. (22-12; SOUTH FLORIDA)

"So Close, Yet So Far..." #1 Ohio State at Illinois
It's time to welcome dougiemeats' team. His team would be Illinois. So reach into your wine cellars and get some champagne because we're going to Champaign, IL. We're going to Champaign to see if the boys in blue and orange can take down the scarlet and gray of Ohio State. We begin with Ohio State. THE Ohio State is THE #1 team in the nation. They don't need to have any potholes on their road to meeting #2 Michigan. The Buckeyes reside in the Ohio capital of Columbus. But they'll meet Illinois. The city of Champaign features the University of Illinois. I think their official title is the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, or something like that. They are abbreviated as "UIUC." Their basketball team is ready to hopefully make it back to March Madness on the road to Atlanta. They have Bruce Webber coaching the men's b-ball team. They have Ron Zook coaching up the Illinois boys. So far, only FoolKiller's boys have won in terms of games I'm shouting out to people about. Let's see if the Fighting Illini can shut up Ohio State. Sadly, the Fighting Illini had a close fight to eventually lose. Ohio State didn't win a pretty game, but they still remain #1. (17-10; #1 Ohio State)

*** OFF-TOPIC NOTE: Dougiemeats we thank you for giving us fellow Fighting Illini Luther Head playing for my hometown Houston Rockets. He's a wicked player. We'll take him. Played a hell of a game in beating Dallas in a blowout.

* #20 Georgia Tech at North Carolina State
This one's for . Maybe Georgia Tech can stop the bleeding in my "All About You" pack of games. They did just that as the Yellow Jackets stung the North Carolina State Wolfpack to death. (31-23; #20 Georgia Tech)

-end "All About You Pack"

* Pennsylvania State at #1? Wisconsin
Here's a quick report. Coach Joe Paterno injured his left leg as he collided with ???? ????. It was a sad loss for the guy who generally IS Penn State football. The Nittany Lions lost to the Wisconsin Badgers. There may not be Barry Alvarez walking the sidelines for Wisconsin, but no word yet on his condition. He could get an MRI on Sunday.

* Virginia at Florida State
What the hell has happened to Virginia? The Cavaliers went down to Tallahassee to meet Florida State. Then the Seminoles owned Virginia and their pathetic season. (33-0; FLORIDA STATE)

* Virginia Tech at Miami (RIVALRY GAME)
Miami hates Florida State. FSU won their game today as well as the Miami/FlSU game. Now the Hurricanes look to blow away their hated rivals that they'll welcome. Virginia Tech flat out DOESN'T LIKE Miami. Well, maybe not the South Beach lifestyle. But the Hokies can't stand the 'Canes. (-; )

* #18 Oklahoma at #21 Texas A&M (17-16; #18 Oklahoma) *most disappointing loss nominee*
^^^ Read why in my "Winners and Losers" report.

JOHN'S WINNERS AND LOSERS
Please take note of the different honors. Big winners are those who I'd like to acknowlege for big wins. Most disappointing losers are those who should have won on paper, but failed to. Either that, or letting a lead slip away. Upsets of the week are for those who pick up big wins by knocking off a higher-ranked team. Ownage of the weeks are my favorites. Those who beat down the other team by a large-enough margin get my vote. Please note that I look at all four divisions of NCAA football. So it isn't like I only pay attention to Division 1-A. This is my first year covering all four divisions. I hope you've enjoyed it all as much as I enjoyed bringing it to you. So check out this week's list.

BIGGEST WIN(S) OF THE WEEK
(tie) Kentucky Stuns Georgia
- Okay, it was a 24-20 win. So it wasn't exactly stunning. But it does feel good when a traditional basketball power knocks off a proven football power. If this was basketball and Kentucky was fighting to make the postseason, the Wildcats will have picked up a signature win to make it to the postseason. But there's a Bowl system in Division 1-A football. So Kentucky has to keep winning to make a Bowl Game. But I'm sure Kentucky will take it as they played spoiler. As for Georgia, they've fallen off the map.
(tie) Houston Showed Tulsa What's Up - In a blowout win, Houston not only won against Tulsa, but did three things: (1) take the C-USA West lead, (2) has Kevin Kolb become the all-time UH passing leader as well as being about 8th all-time in the NCAA in passing, and (3) has Vincent Marshall become the all-time receiving yard leader for UH. I hope the University of Houston can find some wonderful players to take the places of these star players for Houston. They've done a great job thus far. Art Briles gets to take his Cougars to their third Bowl Game in four seasons. Art Briles will stay around here for some time if he can keep up the good coaching job.

MOST DISAPPOINTING LOSS(ES) OF THE WEEK
Texas A&M Stumbles in Potential Upset of Oklahoma
- Texas A&M held Oklahoma to a 4th and Inches play with about 1:29 left in the Fourth Quarter. They picked up the First Down, but a Flag for Illegal Participation on Texas A&M (12 men on the field) denied them a chance at maybe upsetting them. So Texas A&M basically GAVE Oklahoma the First Down as they kneeled on it to lose. I initially had Mississippi State beating Alabama as my MOST DISAPPOINTING LOSS, but this was MUCH worse. You can't stumble late in a game like this. I know Texas A&M is home to the 12th Man Advantage, but not THAT 12th Man Advantage! I'd like to imagine that Dennis Franchione is going to slap some sense into Texas A&M in making sure they don't pull off something this stupid yet again. Now I know how it feels in that March Madness deal in which one coach called a timeout he didn't have. What happens when you call a Timeout that you don't have? Technical Foul. And they lost. Texas A&M... forshame.

UPSET(S) OF THE WEEK (if any)
#5 Louisville Wanted a Black Out on #3 West Virginia... and Got It
- Louisville faithful were told by Bobby Petrino to wear black in the stands. That Thursday night game was like the beginning of The Great Depression- a Black Thursday. This Black Thursday was a dark one for West Virginia. This coming Thursday, we've seen that Louisville is for real. But is Rutgers for real? Find out this Thursday.

OWNAGE OF THE WEEK
Coastal Carolina Drowns Savannah State 66-6
- Savannah State... what happened? You had a one-game winning streak, now you're back to losing. Much worse, in a blowout. You know the routine...

Savannah State = OWNED (by Coastal Carolina 66-6)!

This one was actually tough because a number of teams beat down the other as the winning team had 60 points or more. So this one was tough.

JOHN'S EXTRAS

--- ACTUALLY SURPRISED PEOPLE READ MY OTHER SCORES ---
I'm glad my extra coverage is paying off. I like doing this for you all because I love to share these scores. It's nice to have this kind of support by my people who read through my reports and comments. I thank all of you. Thanks again. This thanks comes from me covering Slippery Rock upsetting IUP. Not a lot of people look at such games and I can understand that. However, I'd like to have this stuff as special interest. I may try Divisions 2 and 3 in college basketball as well by using two different websites for both divisions of play. So be sure to stay tuned to my reports.

--- WHAT IF LOUISVILLE WON THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP? ---
It may or may not be possible, but let's imagine if Louisville wins it all as an underdog (compared to Ohio State and Michigan). It will mean that it's the first time since Miami in 2001 that a Big East school wins the National Title. I'm telling you... there's a good side and a bad side. Good is that all the criticism about the Big East not being a pure football conference would be put to death. It will also help recruiting for Louisville. Imagine more people wanting to become the next NFL Pro Bowl selections and Super Bowl MVPs by going to Louisville? It will also mean that Kentucky (as in the U. of Kentucky) has added incentive in beating Louisville. Imagine this for a Week 1 story: "Kentucky Shocks the Defending National Champions! That's Right- KENTUCKY!" I got respect for Louisville football since they are nobody's cupcake. But imagine them winning a title. I don't think the state of Kentucky has EVER had a 1-A National Champion in the state of Kentucky. Ever in the 135+ years of college football. Last Kentucky champ in any division of NCAA football was Western Kentucky (1-AA) in 2002.

--- GOT MOTORCYCLE? ---
I usually see a lot of motorcycles in Houston on Saturdays. There was a motorcycle rally in Galveston as I was told. So I've seen everything from wicked choppers (can't go wrong with a Harley-Davidson) to nice sport bikes and super bikes. If I ever owned a motorcycle, I'd probably get a Suzuki GSX-R, a Honda CBR1000RR, maybe even a beautiful Ducati 999R. That's just some Tourist Trophy love. A bike I liked from Tourist Trophy that doesn't handle all that well is the Yamaha VMAX.

Thanks for your reading. See you when the next week thread comes around!

I know there's already a new thread, but I'd like to talk about this week - more specifically - the Ohio State and Illinois game.

I know we lost, but man, what a game! It was good to see Brasic get some playing time and Leman kept the crowd into it. The first half was frustrating, but they made up for it by providing an exciting second half.

No one likes moral victories, but this was one of those games that I felt good about even after watching them lose.

"Judgment Day" Georgia at Kentucky
Kentucky is not the class of SEC football. I already know that. Georgia has a chance to stop the bleeding by taking on Kentucky. But they won't be at Sanford Stadium. Oh no.

Sadly I missed this game because....I was sleeping. for some reason I was exhausted Friday night and slept for 17 hours straight. I'm blaming my flu shot, but honestly have no clue. I woke up in time to hear the ending of the game. The fans tore down the goal post. Isn't that something you do at the other team's field? And then, is that necessary? I mean, yes it was a huge win for Kentucky, but Georgia has had a sub-par season.

Anyway, Rich Brooks has secured his future at Kentucky. He has one year left on his contract but renewals have to happen now if he is expecetd to recruit next season. Perhaps I gave up on him one season too soon. I started this season saying I was finished with him. Let's see how they handle the Independence/Liberty Bowl (whichever they get) and then see if they can really create a mess in the SEC next season.

The fans have gone wacky though. All over the radio is talk of beating....get this....Tennessee. I keep hearing about how Tennessee is on a downard spiral and Kentucky is picking up their game. I am thinking that we have Vandy next week. Vandy has had a quite a few upsets this season and we don't need to look ahead and become the next upset.

*** OFF-TOPIC NOTE: FoolKiller we thank you for fellow Wildcat Chuck Hayes playing for my hometown Houston Rockets. He helped in the rout against Dallas.
He was great as a freshman and only got better as he went. He'll be a star some day.

If only the Petit LeMans were this week....I probably would have gotten killed, but it would have felt good to put my Kentucky pride in the face of all the Georgia flags that were flying in the infield.

--- WHAT IF LOUISVILLE WON THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP? ---
Then Kentucky will have to win a NCAA tournament championship or my life will become unbearable.

And no, we have never won a football championship in Kentucky.

Of course, I guess I could always just tell teh Louisville fans that they couldn't create a basketball dynasty, even with Rick Pitino, so they had to chase down football.

Funny story: At the Louisville vs West Virginia game they found Rick Pitino in the stands and basically (they appraoched it smoother than I am wording it) asked him how his big ego handles sharing the spotlight with a big football coach.

Thanks for your comments. Now let me address dougiemeats and FoolKiller.

The one thing I don't really like about the BCS thing is that you're sort of expected to dominate your games against inferior opponents and outclass better teams. So when a team doesn't have a great game, media types would like to sort of rant against a team because they didn't outclass the opponents they should beat. I normally say that every team has their good games and bad games. It applies to wins and losses. There is a such thing as playing badly and still winning. Likewise, there's a such thing as playing good and still losing. Take Texas last year. When they struggled to Texas A&M, some were thinking that Texas lost a little steam. But of course, we all saw what Texas did to Colorado in last year's Big XII Championship Game. And we also saw what Texas did against Southern California in the Rose Bowl. Where am I getting at? All I'm saying is that not every team has their best game right out of the tunnel. Illinois were playing to stun Ohio State or perhaps take them to Overtime. Or let's compare this to another Big Ten team- Iowa. Iowa struggled at Syracuse, but they still won in Double Overtime. I think as long as you win as many of your games as possible, that's all that matters. Congratulations to Illinois for the job they've done, even in a losing effort. Your Fighting Illini should be proud, dougiemeats.

Next is FoolKiller's Wildcats. I said in the 2006 Preview that they would beat Texas State, Ole Miss, Central Michigan, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, and Louisiana-Monroe. Your 'cats surpsied me when they beat Georgia. I literally had Georgia beating Kentucky by at least 14. If they won the remaining games I said they would win, they'd have more than enough to go Bowling. They'd be in a Bowl for the first time since about 1998. If pathetic Kansas could make it to a Bowl Game, imagine seeing another proven basketball school return to a Bowl Game. And imagine if Kentucky's opponent was a good team with a good year. Like, let's say they play Tulsa, Houston, Texas Christian, Pittsburgh, or someone like that. A Bowl win will change skepticism of Rich Brooks. That is, unless a proven coach from another school, coach who is a Kentucky alum, or an NFL coach looking to return to college will suffice for Brooks. Congratulations to Kentucky. They are back over 0.500. Whether or not they will maintain that will depend on their next game.

I'll have some extras lined up for the new thread, "Week 11: Higher Learning." Come give a brother a holler at that thread, alright? Exercise your First Amendment, players!
